Lol, I agree, they should be mandatory from birth with more condescending messages built in that really target the self esteem for those who don't comply with a healthy lifestyle.

It would cut down the health costs of the entire world, especially USA, if these things are forced down on the youth and made "cool". Then you'd see more kids challenging each other in exercise instead of how many slices of pizza they can eat.

It's obvious the watch isn't finished, which is why they're not releasing it until 2015. So pretty sure that's why there's no mention of battery life, more detailed pricing, water resistance, connectivity options, etc. This is at least four months away from release, so plenty of time to improve/finalize the specs.
Right, except... they have every goddamn feature polished and ready to show the world. Every color, every wristband, every app. Even the pricing has been set. It's a fully working device that's been aeons in the making, and 2015 is just over 3 months away. Neither the internal nor the external design is going to change, the battery is what it is, they know exactly how long a charge lasts and they know we won't like it.

But yes, the Jony Ive things are becoming parodies of themselves. But was he in this one? Thought just his voice. But my feed was cutting in and out.
Yeah, we didn't have to look at him this time. And he is an exceptional designer. And do I understand the marketing value of having someone passionate do the sales pitch. It's just that he overdoes it so much that I come away feeling nauseous like I had a few bites too many of some cake, and I feel like I'm drenched in fatty, sugary frosting. Ever talked to a really geeky guy and at first you're impressed with his knowledge and passion, but after a while it gets creepy and you find yourself scrambling for excuses to get out of the conversation? Do they show Ive only from the shoulders up because the indulgence gives him a giant pants tent every time? It feels like an episode of Hannibal, when they show him cooking; the delicious imagery is mouthwatering, but then you remember that he's making a meal out of some guy's kidney and some chick's brain...

Errr, hello, have you not seen the Moto 360, the LG or the curved Samsung. In what possible way does this look like the best wearable on the market??? (and the most expensive to boot!)

Yes, and none of them really appeal to me. The Moto360 looks nice but has severe flaws - battery life being the main one. Of course, we don't know the Apple Watch's battery life either, but I doubt it's going to be as bad as the M360.

As to the LG and Samsung, they don't look as nice, don't have the tech that the Apple Watch has, and the UI generally looks bad.

The Apple Watch isn't perfect - I'd go as far to say it's not even that great - but at the moment it is the one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind.

LOL, have you any idea how deep is 50m?

Its very deep, even for diving. But unfortunately, the combination of loose marketing claims and lack of real standards means that the generally agreed 'exchange rate' is that 50m resistant watches are just about good enough for surface water sports. Unless it is a specifically certified divers watch.

Check the Wiki article on 'Water Resistant Mark'

And what happened to all the sleep tracking rumors? Apparently you need to charge this at night so tracking your sleep goes out the windows as well.

I was hoping to get rid of my phone under my pillow to track my sleep :)

What do you mean not as customizable? its more customizable that the apple watch. and comes with more watch faces right out of the gate and you can customize the watch faces too.

Moto X destroys the Apple Watch in every way possible.
Design. Material Quality. Simplistic but in interface.
better OS, Functionality and finally Google Now completely destroys it.

I mean look at this then look at apple disgrace of a watch. its night and day.

Three things, first of all the apple watch has many, many customization options so im not really interested in debating that with you. Also, I was agreeing with your first comment but you seem to believe I am not.

Also, I find it interesting your post has -1 likes when you cant dislike. LOL

the thing is with watches you need to feel the device to appreciate it, the weight, the quality etc etc. It's also smaller than the 'go to' aspirational watches like Rolex, Breitling, AP, Hublot, not that it is in that market at all.

Also, its a new UI and as with the original iPhone you have to play with it to really 'get' it so I am loathe to give an opinion yet till I have some time with it. it could well be the little things that could make this a big thing, maybe the digital touch feature could become the new SMS?

You are missing the point. Everyone's saying they hate the design, that's the biggest Apple's selling point. This watch is just horrible. When the iPad was introduced people critiziced the functionality, not the design.

A lot of people DID criticise the design of the iPad when it came out, actually.

Anyway, at the end of the day, if this product is not good enough it won't sell. Steve Jobs said this on D8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-xohGtbiaI

Totally 100% targeted at the woman/asian market with the high end gold options. Where is the American/male 'white gold' option?

What type of custimization are you talkin about? bands? you do know you are speaking on a product that is still in development that won't see the light of day for about 6-9 months right?

Don't you think motorola would have a multitude of bands by then?

Please please please. be real.

And with the way Motorola is going, they might let you design you own band with you picking your color.

You didn't need to play with the original iPhone to get it. I opened the box and immediately I was using it. It was the most intuitive UI ever. That's why it was so revolutionary.

For this one, it seems like you will buy it and spend some time trying out all kinds of inputs for each app to learn what works where. For which apps the dial zooms in, for which apps the dial does something else? For which apps pressure sensors do something, for which apps they don't do anything?

See how it goes? There are multiple forms of input now instead of one.

Actually its more like a one eyed man with severe cataracts and severe nearsightedness :D haha. For us iphone users it's our only option for a smart watch, and maybe in some aspects is slightly better than the competition.

I don't like that it has that much customisation. Apple should have chosen couple of them and stick with them. This is just too much imho.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment about it not being a status symbol ($349 is CHEAP in the watch world). I have to disagree with your assertion that any smartwatch is a toy. That's like saying a smartphone is a toy.

Maybe to some people it is, there are still people out there who think all a phone should do is make calls, and if they are forced to be very forward thinking, send 160 character text messages, in monochrome.

Personally, I love my smart phone, I love it's features and for my job I could not live without it. Similarly, I think I will love this smartwatch and some of its features will become invaluable to me.

i may have went overboard w/ the general term "toy." i should have just said gadget. electronic gadgets are considered toys to me... but that just my perspective. in any case, a electronic gadget by any means shouldn't be labeled as a symbol of status. perhaps nerd status but not pimp status. lol

Did they say that? I would think that it should be able to capture data independent of the iPhone and deliver it when the iPhone link is restored.

It's not going to sync GPS data from your run without a GPS chip is it?
They specifically said in the demo that it uses the GPS from your iPhone, so unless I carry my iPhone with me along with wearing the watch, I won't get GPS data captured. I can only get the steps the M8 detects. See what I mean?

Did you see the demo video? The Apple watch seems to have tons of customization options.

I think the watch looks great... especially the personalization options. The functionality is miles ahead of what's currently on the market (IMO).

I'm definitely sold.

The appearance of the watch is a complete disappointment on every level. Aside from generally disliking square watches I see nothing innovative or groundbreaking in the physical design elements. This is the first time in my adult life that I have been dismayed by an Apple product from the get go. I am not excited at the prospects of wearing this.

I was hoping to have something that might help me replace my iPhone for taking on walks.

But this thing has no earphone jack.

So I'm not interested. 6th Gen iPod Nano for me.

During the first live demo the guy did mention that you could store some songs on the device itself which makes me think it could work with a bluetooth headset, so you could use it on walks with music, and no wires.
