I actually thought they would keep the 4 inches version around. WTF is wrong with Apple? First nobody wants a bigger phone and now they don't even give us the option to have a small one? That's the biggest surprise for me, no 3.5 or 4 inches iPhone 6. Amazing.

And no iPhone Nano. Disgraceful.

If it was waterproof I'm sure they would have mentioned it somewhere. I wouldn't put my hopes up and you need the phone with you for this to work so forget about surfing.

I'm pissed that I can't just go jogging with only this. So the only activity where I can use this seems to be cycling.

They have a picture of a fella covered in water wearing one; so it's resistant at least, but can't find any confirmation of actual waterproof.

Are you fracking serious, material quality??? Moto's material quality is abysmal compare to this. This thing is probably 10 times more durable... Good grief.

The A8 creams single core speed of the X, the one most people care about, not sure what the hell your talking about.

Abysmal? compared to a product that is coming out in 6 minimum?

You do know that the moto 360 comes with real leather and is full steel meaning there is no rubber. While the apple watch rubber sports version will cost you 499 and the leather version will cost you starting atleast 599.

lol the only material quality here is apple watch. a rubber watch for 499.

please stop.

So what's it like being racist? I would not know, never been one myself but your comment is clearly racist to people outside the USA. I'm curious to know what being a racist feels like.

Believe the proper term would be nationalist, not racist. "Outside the USA" is not a race (nor is inside the USA).

That's pretty hideous, I'm very surprised this came out of Apple, poor Steve rolling over in his grave. For me the saving grace *might* be:

1) if the UI just works as I'm finding Android wear to be pretty crappy and
2) If the HR sensor is indeed "instant" as stated in the keynote. I'm baffled why any company thinks a HR sensor that takes 10 seconds and makes you stand perfectly still to take it has any functionality at all.

The crapper though is that it only works with iphones. The new iphones are ok if not a bit lackluster. OIS is nice, but welcome to 1080p and last year.

2001 - "the iPod is a complete fail. You have to have a Mac to use it, it's really bulky and you have to use iTunes. Nobody will buy that."

2007 - "the iPhone is crippled from day 1. You have to sync to iTunes! No flash on the camera? No front camera? It can't do video? No 3G. Total fail."

2010 - "I don't see the point of the iPad - what's it for? It's just a big iPod Touch. It'll never sell. No USB port or card slot, can't run a full OS on it. Total fail."

Funny how history repeats. :)

The Power Mac G4 Cube says hi.

Why would you want a product that will sell less than 100k units and lose support in 6 months?
Lose support?

1. It runs on android wear which gets monthly feature updates.
2. This is motorola not samsung.

I've seen one and the build quality is abysmal. If it survives a year it will be a miracle.

This morning, people were laughing at how thick the Android wear smartwhatches are

It’s not really an Apple v. anybody else question, I’m curious what people are expecting in a watch-like device that’s basically a small computer strapped to your wrist, when conventional time pieces that just tell time are the same thickness. I was comparing the new Apple Watch to the device it’s modeled after, a watch, and a couple by some well known watch designers and the thickness isn't much different (but I am assuming that spec since it hasn’t been released!)

I see the Moto 360 is 11.5mm, again, about the same as a traditional watch, that’s pretty darn thin. I don’t think any of these devices are going to overdo getting thin since watch owners are already accustomed to wearing something that thick (and for others it’s a new experience, so there’s really no comparison).

It doesn't look that thick to me. Even sideways, sure you got the calculation right.

I think maybe you were directing that at me? I’m the one who did the janky draw lines on paper measurement :D Yeah, I have no idea, it’s a really loose swag on the thickness!

I’ve got a few watches that are 11-12mm, it’s not an uncommon size, and I suspect this watch is about the same.

Showering will be ok since it's resistant but I think it'll just break if I do my daily swimming drills with that one. There are watches for swimmers but none can sense pulse. And I really want a accurate heartrate reading while swimming.

Ahh - I see what you mean. I think the challenge might be that water between the skin and the sensor will mess up the readings when you are actually swimming. Smart- and sport watches that can survive water is available, but I don't think any of the optically based ones will do a good job while moving around in water.

So what's it like being racist? I would not know, never been one myself but your comment is clearly racist to people outside the USA. I'm curious to know what being a racist feels like.
...so now you get to apologize for falsely accusing someone of being racist. Race (required component of racism) was never mentioned. Nationality was however.

having an apple watch isn't a status symbol. try AP, hublot, patek, rolex. apple watch is a toy and so is any smartwatch.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment about it not being a status symbol ($349 is CHEAP in the watch world). I have to disagree with your assertion that any smartwatch is a toy. That's like saying a smartphone is a toy.

Maybe to some people it is, there are still people out there who think all a phone should do is make calls, and if they are forced to be very forward thinking, send 160 character text messages, in monochrome.

Personally, I love my smart phone, I love it's features and for my job I could not live without it. Similarly, I think I will love this smartwatch and some of its features will become invaluable to me.

Similar reactions when the first iPad came out. Then the second was a gigantic improvement. I think the Watch will follow a similar path. There will be the usual "early adopters," then apps will be developed and it's functionality will be better tested and highlighted in the real world, and then the next one they come out with will be a huge hit. It will be slimmer and cooler and will be well known enough that people will say "yeah, I should get one."

This x100 and bolded. I'd like to go running with the sport watch while listening to music via BT and tracking my mileage on a map, ala Runkeeper. I can't do this on the watch alone. I also need to haul along the iPhone. (Unless I've got that somehow wrong?) That's just plain silly if true. So the watch is a very nice looking, secondary display for the iPhone. Until it has more standalone functionality I'll pass.

You have got it 100% correct. Watch on your hand and phone in your pocket for full watch functionality. And make sure you have a data plan on your iPhone and you are in a 4G/LTE coverage area too.

At $349 the ultimate status symbol ... Look at me I have money.

The problem with the iPhone is that people keep them in their pockets much of the time, with a watch it is on display on their wrist for all to see.

It will go the way of Beats. When someone with class sees someone wearing crappy overpriced headphones, they pity them, not envy them.

I mean the videos show the usage of the watch and it really looks confusing. When you are on the watch screen, you use the dial to change the colors of the watch on the screen but where would you know that it does that? In all the apps you would have to basically play around with the dial to see if it does anything or nothing.

It'll gonna take a lot of getting used to.

So now you can have the privalige of paying Apple $2500 over 2 years instead of just $2000 for the phone alone.

This is aimed at sports people with too much money and all there sad folloers on.

At £150/$200 they could have killed the market. But as per the norm, Apple are greedy.

Best UI by far?

You are joking right? That demo only proved how clunky and confusing the UI was ... Nothing like an Apple product should be. Sorry, but in no way (price, design or functionality) can anyone justify this monstrosity ... Let alone say its a better proposition to most watches out there from Moto, LG and Samsung!!!

I think Apple missed the memo on the whole health thing as well. While they may get a few people to buy this and start acting healthy all of a sudden, most of their potential audience does't really care about that.

You'd be amazed at how the right technology can change people's attitudes towards health though. A few years back my work started handing out free Nike Fuel bands and then set up a company leader board. All of a sudden nearly all two hundred staff members were signing up for gym memberships and posting instagram pics of their running routes.

With the right implementation and an easy to access social element you can get the laziest people exercising, it's why things like weight watchers are so successful and Apple know this.
