Apple has always done this with their pre-orders. The Apple Watch is no different. It has always been 12:01am Cupertino Time.

Apple have closed their stores in Australia during the day before (I think it was for the iPad 2 launch where they shut at 3pm and then re-opened at 5pm). However with the Apple Watch (or so I have been told by the Sydney Store in George Street) they will be open at 9am on the 10th April and the Apple Watch will be available to view. I guess you can view them but will not be able to pre-order until 5:01pm.

Luck really is on our side my friend!
The stores will get a revamp over night (just like how they did it for the last iPhone), and will display start the try-on with the Watch from the moment they open in the morning (as confirmed by an employee friend of mine). None the less.. you can take your own conclusions, by checking the list of Events and Workshops of any retail store in Australia for example Sydney (George st.): http://www.apple.com/au/retail/sydney/
you will notice that they have absolutely nothing happening on the 10th, (just like on iPhone release dates)

I'll probably camp out Friday morning, just to watch the work being done, and be the first to try it on!!!!

We in Australia seem to get the best outcome of all. We can try before we preorder. Closing the the store for a few hours for a new iPad is reasonable as all they have to do is swap 'old' iPads for 'new' iPads. I think that the watch is a larger undertaking, requiring new displays, thus over night revamp makes sense. Are the smaller Australian Apple store doing the same as George St, revamp late thur night?

I wonder if there will be many people preordering at 5:01 from the a Mac in the Apple Store?

Would anyone make a guess (or have hear a rumour) where in the George St Store the 'try on area' will be? I would guess maybe at the ends of the top floor near the Genius Bar.

Will there be a second special area for potential Edition buyers?

Its the usual "rip off australians" trick. #349US = $457AU. Why does the Australian watch start at $579?!
AU$1=US$0.76325. So a US$349 watch 'should be' AU$457+GST = AU$503.
AU$579 is high, but expected. Apple usually price products about 10% (AU$553) higher in Australia, to take into account currency fluctuations. The AU$ drop another 10% before Apple needs to redo price in Australia again.

Hahah yeah fortunately for me I'm after a space grey ! Although I might get a space black stainless steel.

All the best with you getting your 42mm if you are getting one tho man #

I’m surprised about how many of you opt for the space grey or black model. With the iPhones I always preferred the darkest version. With a watch I don't. As a watch enthusiast I have a little collection of fine (mechanical) timepieces. In my experience dark/black watches almost never look good – maybe on a picture or in the showroom but not on wrists. Especially when they also have a black watchface I predict it will look dull on your skin.
There is a reason why there are only relatively few dark/black watches on the market.

So, if you want to avoid an unpleasant surprise when you slap on your pre-ordered Apple watch on the 24th, you might consider checking it out first. If you want to preorder in minute 1 (as I will do) I recommend you to visit a store which sells traditional dumb watches to try some on and get a better feel for color and material combinations.

Just a suggestion from someone who never leaves the house without a watch.

Addendum: Did you notice that Apple did not put a single picture with one of the dark watches on a human wrist on their website (at least as far as I can remember)? Again: I think there’s a reason for that.

Japan's Pre-Orders Begin at *4:01 p.m. JST

Image

Here's a full list of pre-order times by country (in local time):

- U.S., Canada: 12:01 a.m. (Pacific Time), 3:01 a.m. (Eastern Time)
- Japan 3:01 p.m.

Not that a whole lot of people on here will care, but because Japan is 16 hours ahead of California during daylight saving time, pre-ordering there would start at 4:01 p.m. JST, not 3:01 p.m. as was stated in the article.

Is there any way to apply voucher codes through the app? I have a £60 apple store gift card I want to use on my preorder but as far as I know you can't use them on the apple store app.

I watched the new video's on the Apple site on how it works, they only have 4 but it sold me. It's fluid intuitive and ...well cool.

There are more videos but for some reason they only say coming soon and are not playable yet.

This is so exciting. We're literally days away from the launch of an awesome new Apple product that will reshape the tech industry forever. I've been waiting for this day since the launch of iPad. I cannot wait to be part of this.

The regular stainless steel is more versatile since it can be used with a greater variety of bands. People with olive or darker skin might do better with the space black, since stainless steel ordinarily does not flatter darker skin.

I'll pick one up to resell for profit in case they're sold out, hopefully it will turn out better than iPad 3 where I ordered 3 units and ended returning 2 because they weren't hard to find.

The US$349 model is the 38mm sports model, AU$579 is for the 42mm sports model. The 42mm sports model is US$399. The 38mm sports model is AU$499. There's no Australia tax for the watch (well, I haven't bothered to check pricing on the Edition models...)

Unfortunately in Australia the 24th is a public holiday, there will be no deliveries that day. If you order online on the 10th you won't get it delivered until Monday 27th (at best).

Will Apple be offering in-store pickup of online orders on the 24th? I've scoured the Apple Aust. website but can find no word on this unfortunately (I know they're offering this service in the US).

I really wish they had a week of in-store demo availability before forcing us to preorder a specific size and model if we want one. By the time we can make it into the store, preorders will be sold out through the roof.

Nobody has any idea what these things really look or feel like in each of their incarnations and sizes, and I for one am having a hard time figuring out whether to preorder the $1000 model that I want, or if I'll be just as happy with the look and feel of a Sport with a different band, or a stainless one with something other than the steel band.

Welp.

I don't get why the Sport is more expensive than the regular Apple Watch? The only difference is that the Sport comes with a plastic band... wouldn't that be less durable and cheaper to build?

My mistake. I am not intending in buying an Apple Watch so had not looked that the Australian prices personally and took captain kaos' without checking it. With AU$1=US$0.76325, the US$349 model 'should be' AU$502.98 (with GST) but is AU$499, so the Apple Watch Sports is actually most AU$3 cheaper in Australia.

With the current exchange rate and GST the price in Australia should be 44% higher. The Edition is US$10K and AU$14K so again cheaper in Australia (or should I say less overpriced i Australia :) )

I think that, many, Apple Stores will be open on the 24th, the Sydney Store was open today, Easter Sunday.

There are 7 more and they will be releasing them on a daily basis. At least that's what I've heard.

I'm not to sure about that they haven't released any others so far and it's been a couple of days since the first few were uploaded.

The store queues will begin shortly then. If they haven't already.

I don't think there will be such queues. I think most people will either have it deliverd or reserved for in-store pickup for specific date and time.

Besides, the overall interest won't be such huge as with every new iPhone, since the iPhone is required to use the device...

I'll be preordering the moment I can. When I visit the store later in the day, I'll make sure I like it. Best case is I'm right. Worst case, I cancel my preorder and am in the exact same position I would have been in. 2 weeks between preorder and release means plenty of time to cancel.

Do you think the review embargo will lift by April 10? I'm torn between SS and Sport with the deciding factor being that I will go SS if I'm pretty sure that i'm going to be wearing the watch every day for the next two or even more years. The reviews might give me an indication. Otherwise I will probably get space grey and still use my traditional watch for work and dress occassions.
