Apple has always done this with their pre-orders. The Apple Watch is no different. It has always been 12:01am Cupertino Time.
Apple have closed their stores in Australia during the day before (I think it was for the iPad 2 launch where they shut at 3pm and then re-opened at 5pm). However with the Apple Watch (or so I have been told by the Sydney Store in George Street) they will be open at 9am on the 10th April and the Apple Watch will be available to view. I guess you can view them but will not be able to pre-order until 5:01pm.
Luck really is on our side my friend!
The stores will get a revamp over night (just like how they did it for the last iPhone), and will display start the try-on with the Watch from the moment they open in the morning (as confirmed by an employee friend of mine). None the less.. you can take your own conclusions, by checking the list of Events and Workshops of any retail store in Australia for example Sydney (George st.): http://www.apple.com/au/retail/sydney/
you will notice that they have absolutely nothing happening on the 10th, (just like on iPhone release dates)
I'll probably camp out Friday morning, just to watch the work being done, and be the first to try it on!!!!![]()

We in Australia seem to get the best outcome of all. We can try before we preorder. Closing the the store for a few hours for a new iPad is reasonable as all they have to do is swap 'old' iPads for 'new' iPads. I think that the watch is a larger undertaking, requiring new displays, thus over night revamp makes sense. Are the smaller Australian Apple store doing the same as George St, revamp late thur night?
I wonder if there will be many people preordering at 5:01 from the a Mac in the Apple Store?
Would anyone make a guess (or have hear a rumour) where in the George St Store the 'try on area' will be? I would guess maybe at the ends of the top floor near the Genius Bar.
Will there be a second special area for potential Edition buyers?

AU$1=US$0.76325. So a US$349 watch 'should be' AU$457+GST = AU$503.Its the usual "rip off australians" trick. #349US = $457AU. Why does the Australian watch start at $579?!
AU$579 is high, but expected. Apple usually price products about 10% (AU$553) higher in Australia, to take into account currency fluctuations. The AU$ drop another 10% before Apple needs to redo price in Australia again.
