how about changing it so you can get apple pay offered to you for the full 12 month period after purchase not 2 months ! its disgusting practices like this that give apple a bad rap
You can, you just need to go to an Apple Store to have the Genius Bar evaluate the device to ensure it is not damaged. It is to prevent people from damaging their device, then adding AppleCare after the damage has been done.

Never really understood Apple Care+. You sill have to pay (quite some amount) to fix your device with Apple Care+. You lose access to your device for some time. You device might come back in a worse state after the repair, which have happened in multiple occasions.

I’d rather just put on a case instead

It’s of course a personal choice but the repair cost for accidentally damage is quite different with vs. w/o AppleCare+. For iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, it’s $329 or $379 respectively for a screen repair or only $29 if you have AppleCare+. Repair costs for iPads, especially the Pro models were far higher until the recent generation because they couldn’t repair damaged displays—they had to swap the entire device and charged $699-$799 for the larger iPad Pro model, vs. $49 if you have AppleCare+.

Except for Macs, repair times at Apple Stores is typically 1-2 hours so that’s not very long without your device. And with AppleCare+, for more significant damage that would engage the $99 payment, you have the option for express device replacement meaning Apple overnight’s you the replacement and you simply send back the broken device in the same packaging, shipment via FedEx paid by Apple. You don’t even have to head to a store.

And anything warranty related, included depleted batteries, incurs no cost.

Again, I realize it’s not for everyone but I personally value the convenience and piece of mind it offers. My family isn’t quite as cautious with their devices and I’ve had the occasional accident where AC+ saved me a bunch of money. The cost saving for my 12.9” iPad Pro alone paid for the cost of AC+ for many of my other devices. I’d wager with all of the repairs to family devices, covered battery replacements in iPhones and a couple of Macs, and occasional warranty issue (looking at my wife’s old 12” Mac with butterfly keyboard 😜) I’ve probably come close to breaking even or even saved a small amount of money. Yeah, my family sucks taking care of their devices.

This is not a good deal. I have AppleCare for all my devices, but I paid for 2-3 years of coverage up front. Doing the math, everything works out to about $26.33/month. If I wanted to cover everything with AppleCare One, it would be $19.99 plus coverage for 2 extra devices, which would be $31.97/month.

Depends on what devices you cover. I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max, an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and an Apple Vision Pro (yep, I’m one of the few people that bought one); for me it looks like I could cover all three and actually make money (I know, not really).

AVP coverage, which I foolishly missed out on, is $24.99/month, and I’d actually pay LESS for it and cover my iPhone and Apple Watch Ultra at the same time.
I’m also one of the few people that has a Vision Pro. This is actually really exciting news for us. AppleCare+ on the Vision Pro by itself is $25 a month. I also have an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, so this will be a pretty sweet deal.

Just curious, how do you live for a day without an iPhone?
And did you ever had a need for the full replacement and what caused that

Maybe i missed it but can you select different devices in the same family account? (for instance me, and my wifes phone)

Assuming the answer is yet

I think what you meant is “this is not a good deal *for me*”. I tend to upgrade devices more frequently than 3 years so this provides me the benefit of not needing to call and refund the unused portion of my plan(s). Also, this looks like it includes Theft and Loss.

This is an instant buy. I have an iPad Pro that's $7.50/mo, MacBook Pro that's $12.50/mo, and Pro display XDR that's $15/mo, in addition to my iPhone 16 Pro Max. It'll save me a ton of money over paying for things separately -- plus, I get theft and loss coverage.

The iPhone is on the Upgrade Program -- anyone know if I can migrate the IUP AC+ to ACOne? or, is that just wishful thinking?

Apple today announced AppleCare One, a new subscription plan for customers to cover multiple devices with a single plan.

Apple-AppleCare-One-hero.jpg

AppleCare One starts at $19.99 per month for up to three products, with the ability to add more for $5.99 per month for each additional device. The plan incudes all of the benefits that come with AppleCare+, such as unlimited repairs for accidents, priority support, battery coverage, and more.

Subscribers can freely move their devices in and out of the plan at any time. AppleCare One also enables users to add products they already own that are up to four years old, providing they are in good condition, extending beyond the current 60-day window to purchase AppleCare+. When a customer trades in a covered product with Apple, it is automatically removed from their AppleCare One plan and replaced with the new device.

AppleCare One also expands theft and loss protection to the iPad and Apple Watch. Previously, it was only available for the iPhone.

AppleCare One's pricing is the same regardless of the products that are covered. Apple says that a customer who enrolls their iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch could save up to $11 per month versus enrolling in separate AppleCare+ plans for each device.

Customers in the United States can sign up for AppleCare One starting tomorrow on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac, or by visiting an Apple Store.

Buying upfront is still a better deal, because you can get a prorated refund for any time remaining on your AppleCare.

Seems they need to add a family option to this plan. This is pretty impractical for a family. They let us share apps and media purchases in a family, why not device coverage? I'm guessing because they know people would just swap in their families broken iphone when it needs to be fixed, which would break their whole "the dealer always wins" algorithm.
This is exactly what I was trying to explore, lol.

It seems that for devices outside of the original 60-day “forgiveness” time, there will be a diagnostics test performed to make sure battery health is above 80% and that the phone hasn’t detected any issues.

Not sure if it’d be able to detect the broken back glass on a few of our family phones though…

But I don’t believe this was the intended reason for not allowing family sharing. Hopefully they allow it soon.

From what I’ve been told, and what Apple alludes to on their website under the Q&A, no. It seems the devices will need to be signed into the same Apple Account, not just apart of the same family. But, if your family shares devices on the same Apple Account (ie, you and your wife share an iPad and Mac signed into your Apple Account/ID), then you could bundle those together. But not your wife’s phone and personal devices.

It feels like an incredible oversight. I’d even be happy if they made the ones shared by a family $25/month and lowered the savings a bit. Or increased the additional device costs. I’m not sure why they didn’t roll it out with that.

Yup, this is a big "no" from me then.

thanks for explaining

Right, you should only get it if the monthly cost of your three most expensive AppleCare plans is more than $20/month and only add additional items if their cost is more than $6/month.

AppleCare is cheaper if purchased up front for 2-3 years or on an annual subscription.

It doesn't always make sense to pay for AppleCare on less expensive or older devices, so you may want to discontinue AppleCare coverage on devices after a few years to save money.

I wonder if it will be possible to convert existing annual AppleCare+ subscriptions into AppleCare One. For example, I'm currently paying $250/year for Vision Pro coverage and $150/year for MacBook Pro coverage. So, AppleCare One would save me at least $13/month (about $160/year).

I'm about halfway through the billing cycles of both of these annual AppleCare+ plans. If I cancel today, I would get prorated refunds for each. But on the cancellation screen for both plans, Apple says that I can't reactivate AppleCare coverage after I cancel. So I'm definitely not going to try converting these to AppleCare One myself. I might try calling Apple tomorrow or going to a store this weekend.

wonder how this will work with the iPhone Upgrade Program which has AppleCare already included in the monthly installment

As I posted before, I've had Apple products for 22 years and never spent a penny on repairs or replacements, other than upgrades.

$240*22=$5280. So far I've spent 0.

Our homes and out-buildings, vehicles and such? Sure, it's worth paying for insurance. Personal electronics? Not so much.
Glad that it worked out for you. And most people have similar good usage from Apple Hardware. My outlook is from the warped viewpoint of a 11 year employee in Apple Service. So I saw far more broken, burnt-out and defective devices. But as a percentage of the entire hardware line, Apple is top ten.

Curious too. I canceled my plans today, they suggested I may not be able to restore them, but I said let’s go. Worst case I have to be carful until my next upgrade. Best case, the plan works. As soon as the cancel completed, I have a message in settings telling me I have 45 days to add AppleCare. The new plan also says anything 4 years or newer should be covered other than AirPods which are a year. IDK, I will find out tomorrow. If I fail it’s ok. I do not have Vision Pro but i have iPhone, iPad, and Watch that I am going to test. My other devices are family devices that for now are not included in this deal. My other devices I dont care to cover, like this iPad Pro that stays home all the time.

I have used the express replacement, most recently last summer while overseas in Italy. It looked like there was water inside my camera lenses (condensation visible, photos foggy) after I had brought the phone out on an ocean kayaking trip (was inside a bag too). Considering water damage warrants a full device replacement, I completed the express replacement request using the Apple Support app. If the phone had stopped working altogether, I could’ve booked an appointment at the Apple Store in Florence where I was headed and had it swapped there since AppleCare+ support is worldwide. I was going to be home in 3-4 days and my two older sons where at home so it was delivered in 2 days. I set it up when I got home, erased the old device and dropped it off at FedEx. Super easy process. For that situation, was not without my phone at all.

We’ve used the express replacement request optioin a couple other times in the past as well, once for my wife’s Apple Watch (again, Apple doesn’t repair them, swaps the entire unit) and another for the aforementioned iPad Pro. Might’ve done it for a kid’s phone as well, can’t recall exactly. As with my iPhone, process went super smooth and with the Apple Support app, you don’t even interact with an Apple employee.
