On the so called GM Build I Formatted my drive and did a clean install.

SL is an upgrade from Leopard.

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, just purchase Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and follow the simple installation instructions.

Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard; iLife ’09, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

yeah, we'll see when you have to wait 3 minutes because some kid thinks its cool to clog up the chat lines.

whats with the attitude on the forums today

Oh jeez, 3 minutes? What will I do for three minutes? Oh I know, see what else you have posted on here to make me literally LOL. Everyone on here is having a good time, you are the one taking things to seriously ;)

Anywhoos, I can't wait for SL to be here this weekend. It might not be a lot of upfront/visual changes, but new stuff is just that. NEW! Yay for new stuff to play with!

Awesome. Once some reviews come in and if it looks like it'll give some nice performance boosts i'll probably get it, fairly cheap actually.

I'm guessing UTD will be retail, I can't imagine them taking the time to ship each person a DVD for the type of system they have. Then again, who really knows?

but remember the ship date for UTD is still September, not Aug 28th. So, they may be different.

What about downloads?

Does anyone think that Apple will make SL available as a download? Sure would save on packaging and transportation.

Let me help you to understand better. Apple is running a business and wants to build marketshare for ALL their products. Giving you the option to buy SL without iWork results in lost sale of iWork.

Simply purchase Leopard and then upgrade to SL. No need to buy the package of iLife.

I see Leopard on ebay for around $50.

I heard this also. No ones mentioned it so i thoguht i was dreaming. I really hope this is true. So many people ask me "WHYZ IZ MY HARD DRIVE SAYZ 242 GB INSTEADZ OF 250 GB"

What I want to know is...

How come since SL counts a GB as really a GB, not a GiB labeled as a GB, why the hell is RAM still labeled GB and not GiB? Just so it doesn't confuse people?

Considering how many years it's taken this to even change in the OS I can't even come up with an answer.

For the record, people paying full price for the OS get it before the "Up to Date" people who only pay 9.95 for the shipping. It has always been that way. Also, if its just like last year, you "Up to Date" people will be getting a DVD in an envelope. Thats it. Full-pricers will get the box, DVD, stickers, probably a little paperwork, etc.

Before you complain, "Up to Date" people are simply paying the shipping on what Apple figures should already be on your computer if you bought after June 8. People who buy the OS retail are buying a NEW OS. Hope that makes sense.

I know this has been discussed over and over, but I just asked on the Apple Chat line if my UTD disc would arrive on Friday (I told him I was going on a trip and would cancel the UTD disc and pick up a retail copy on Saturday if not) and he over and over said that it absolutely would.

Conclusions we can draw: no one has any idea and we won't know until the UTD discs ship or Apple makes an official announcement.

My guess would be to look at what happened with Leopard UTD and Tiger UTD and that's what will happen with Snow Leopard UTD.

It says delivers by Friday. Completly different than Ships on Friday. Last couple times I got a product from the Apple Online Store that delivers on a certain date, I got it that date.

Can't wait!

Exactly! I can't wait! Ordered it as soon as I got home.

Do you get money from Apple for this free advertising?

I plan to wait in line like i did for leopard. Usually they close the stores at 2 and open with snow leopard at 6 for launch. And you get free t-shirt(s) as well if you arrive really early. CAN'T WAIT!!!! IEEEE!!!!

ffs

the retail version.

the cheap upgrade = no! (thats wht its called upgrade)

You know I remember back in the day (when I was a windows user) if you bought an upgrade version of windows you could do a fresh install on a clean hard drive - the installer would just ask for you to insert either your previous version install cd or in some cases the first and last install floppy.

I am surprised that Apple won't allow anything similiar. Although I am not eben sure if MS let's you do this anymore either

Yah they should really do that. It's pretty annoying installing OS ontop of OS ontop of OS

i'm just excited for this topic to reach 1,000 posts. common fanboys and haters alike. if we can agree on anything, it is that we should hit 1,000 comments by the day's end. go team!!

Snow Leopard...what excites me

Hi Folks,

The Apple site has a six page technology brief on Grand Central Dispatch, available at http://images.apple.com/macosx/technology/docs/GrandCentral_TB_brief_20090608.pdf. This is, to me, the most exciting part of Snow Leopard, though it will not do much for existing apps. For anybody who has done multi-threaded development using existing paradigms, this looks like a real winner. OpenCL looks quite interesting as well. I suspect the GCD and OpenCL versions of things like Final Cut, Adobe CS, GarageBand, etc. will show amazing increases in productivity. However, testing the new versions of built-in apps like Finder, Quicktime, Mail, Safari etc. should give folks a really good feel for the potential. This looks like a bargain for $29. Now where is that quad-core iMac with a 28" screen hiding out????

On Friday, I am going to be doing one thing after work - installing Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Can't wait!

On Friday, I'm going to be doing one thing after work - Spending time with my wife. Can't wait!

(Yes I've got SL pre-ordered, but just sayin' what I'm excited to do on Friday)
