Just curious if anyone knows, how alot of the drivers and stuff will transfer over. I mean, i have an access virus synth for logic i use, and apogee symphony sound card that i use, a wacom tablet.. etc... some plug ins for adobe after effects and a few other things.. Is this OS upgrade going to throw all the hardware out of wack or, is this more an os upgrade which will just be for memory / processor using efficiency and really not effect most of the drivers.

So do we have confirmation yet that the retail version will be 10a432?

BTW, it seems like expectations need to be levelled here. I hope noone is expected anything significant from SL. Been running 10a432 for a week.. I need to keep the new quicktime icon in the dock to remind myself Im using a new OS. For most people, changes will be minimal, if not non-existant.

(Oh, and they still haven't bothered to replace the ugly+outdated aqua buttons/scrollbars that clash with every other visual element in the OS. Its a ridiculously easy thing to do. Sigh. )

Here you go.

More proof, if that isn't enough.

whats with the British and attitudes?

I think you're the one that needs to take the non-existent Apple Tablet.

Please re-read my post before making unnecessary snarky replies. I called it a Touch (not an iTouch), and whatever I call it it's my prerogative. I can even call it the iPee Tee (or Tea) if that tickled me.

Funnily enough, :apple: doesn't makes "Touches" but you immediately knew which product I was referring to. Guess I succeeding in communicating. :)

Kid, i'm not going to argue with you anymore. This is not the time, nor the place. The discussion is about snow leopard and not touches, tea or apple tablets. Not to menton you have no clue as to what snark means.

I'm glad you're getting back on topic since you neither know my age nor my qualifications to enable you to call me a kid or come to conclusions about what I know. And I find it funny that you thought you were arguing.

<sigh/> can't it just ask me for the leopard disk ?
If it checks for a previous version I hope they wrote it something like this:

1) Check for Leopard install
2) If Leopard already installed goto step 5, else goto step 3
3) Ask for Leopard Disk
4) If Leopard disk inserted goto step 5 else goto step 3
5) Begin Snow Leopard installation Process.

My understanding from the presser is that Snow Leopard Disks will be $29 or $49, period. For whatever reason, if you have Tiger you have to buy the box set??

apple said:
he Snow Leopard single user license will be available for a suggested retail price of $29 (US) and the Snow Leopard Family Pack, a single household, five-user license, will be available for a suggested price of $49 (US). For Tiger® users with an Intel-based Mac®, the Mac Box Set includes Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife® ’09 and iWork® ’09 and will be available for a suggested price of $169 (US) and a Family Pack is available for a suggested price of $229 (US).

keep your rolled eyes to yourself. His/her siggy said s/he owns a Touch.

And I can shorten it to whatever I like. Touch. MBP. SL. Why don't you correct the guy who called "Leopard" "Leo"?

snarky, much?

Ignore him man - he's a racist troll who thinks he's a LOT smarter than he is. Pedantry is all he has - let him have it.

Oh, and he's like 19 years old and works at Target - do you really expect brilliance from him?

I wont be buying until Adobe discusses compatibility and you all have done beta testing.

What I am struggling to grasp is why there is such a huge deal being made over a day or two wait for up to date:confused. It reminds me of the iPhone panic about not getting it the first day. It's not like Leopard will self destruct if you dont update on Friday;)

If you're a Tiger user, you don't "have" to buy the box set ($149). You can buy SL for $29, but you need a copy of Leopard for it to install (so says Apple) ($129 if I remember correctly).

So you can buy the SL box set for $149 and get free software too, or Leopard + SL for $158+.

Looks like UTD orders will not ship until September

Apple: How may I help you today?
Me: Hi there, When will my Snow Leopard Up-To-Date disk be shipped?
Apple: Thank you for asking.
Apple: Have you already checked the order status page of your account to view this information?
Me: It says September, but the main Apple store says 28 August.
Apple: Yes orders placed before today will keep there original ship date. So your order will ship in September. You may contact our Customer Service team for further assistance as well with your shipping.

Why is everyone so excited?

Do you think Snow Leopard is going to make that much difference day to day?

Excitement b/c anytime there is real improvement to OS X, not just tweaking or bolted-on features, is cause for celebration.

1) Takes up less HD space b/c it's shed all the PPC crap
2) Faster start-up, Faster Finder, Faster Launching.
3) Quicktime X - including all the features that used to be "Pro" only.
4) Expose integrated into the dock
5) Exchange support
6) And of course all the "under the hood" improvements like Grand Central and Open CL that will improve Mac usability in the years to come.

It's going to take time for developers to refine s/w to 10.6 so I'm not sure how big an impact 10.6 will make on Day 1, but for $29 it will make a big enough impact and well worth the price of admission, especially with Quicktime X (Pro) integrated.

If you haven't been charged yet, you can always cancel and reorder. Just make sure you know before hand that UTD discs are actually being shipped for the 28th like the other SL discs prior to doing so.

Just looking over the wonderful SL pages and came across this. Didn't it use to say 6GB ?

Has anyone called a retail Apple Store yet to find out if SL goes on sale at store open or later in the day, as usual?

True, but some of its users might self-destruct.

I'm self-destructing just waiting on my new iMac which I ordered on the 18th. I only hope the reason it's taking so long is they're installing SL on it.

I want it all... I want it all... and I want it NOW!! :D:D

Tried something with the UK up to date programme ...

Entered the serial number of my iMac, bought days before the March refresh this year, and put the purchase date down as June 18th instead of March 18th, and when I clicked "Qualify" it put the £7.95 update in my basket.

Surely they want proof of purchase, because it can't be that easy to get round?
