They could have but they wanted to land on that price tag so they had to compromise. You aren't going to store anything substantially big in the headset anyway, it's not a video editing machine.
Given that Apple is trying to get AAA games on Mac and iOS (and therefore visionOS), and that many AAA games are over 100GB nowadays, it kinda sucks.

Also sucks for people who like to download their content for local/offline viewing, and in higher quality.

Really? Thanks for that. You could use fiber.

Come to think about this, tethering this would serve a dual purpose: to keep it from falling off and breaking, like regular glasses. Forked from behind, they slip, or you want to park it, it's secured. Also, a rear tether might even stabilize a slight weight issue, offsetting it.

Thinking about a heavy thing on my head gives me a headache already.
optical conversion latency?

I can't wait to get one, for all the naysayers out there your lack of imagination only breeds negatively, be positive and think of all the things you can accomplish. I have, for school, work, and entertainment there are unlimited possibilities we just need to write the developers and let them know to update their apps or we can develop apps to go with the Vision pro.

Still so many questions. Will 3D movies be a new purchase or an ‘upgrade’ if you’ve already purchased them? Is any TV+ content going to have some AVP content? Showing off some ‘killer’ apps available at launch. For me, this would be a consumption/entertainment device. Not sure about using it for productivity yet. The mention about 8k spatial video? Would like some more info on that.

I paid $4999 in 2001 for a 50” Samsung 720P DLP tv, which I believe was one of the first being sold back then. Thank goodness I had a warranty. Had lots of problems with it and had to have it replaced after two repairs on it. If I had the extra $4000 laying around, I’d be tempted to purchase, but I don’t at this time. Can’t wait to hear more info and reviews.

I have a quest 2. It's affordable. Apple's loyalty brand cache is depleted in this economy.

What does my Jeep JK have to do with anything?

Economy is awesome!

What happened to the freaking recession the talking heads were endlessly talking about for the last year and a half?

I guess if you drove a Lamborghini Urus, you’d have no concerns about the price of the Applevision.

I think Apple vision is cheap because there’s really nothing with the high-quality and some of the whizbang features that compares.

Cripes - we bought an Apple IIe for like $3350.00 in 1980!

This place always makes me laugh, its too small, it's too big, its too expensive, its too niche, apple don't innovate anymore - the list is endless but what do we know here really ?

Just go back and look at other apple hardware launches on here and have a good chuckle at the comments....although hindsight is 20/20

I think 99% of everyone with the first price reveal knew it wasn't for them but give it a few gens and it might be.

I'd be honestly surprised if they didnt sell out.

If I was rich it would be bought day 1.

That's cold. So the car we drive determines our value/income?

No, your income is determined by something else

How you value things might relate though

I mentioned already here, but I think the Apple vision is a good deal and kind of cheap, considering there’s no competition with such high-quality features

Having said that, it’s a big chunk of money, yes.

But just because you cannot afford, it does not mean you have to say that it’s overpriced.

They have to pay a lot of hard-working people to design it, and they deserve to be paid well for design and engineering and assembly too!

I've been following this, and you assuming that high income = buying this, is a flawed assumption. My wife and I, individually, have high incomes and neither of us have any interest in this. It's a boring product (my opinion) in a niche category (fact). Lots of people just don't care about VR/AR.

I work in healthcare at a teaching hospital, so I've tried several headsets..they are fine for about 15 mins, then I want them the hell off my head. Mostly because of the weight on my neck, and they are physically irritating.

Oh yea, it's a single-user device. Assuming this does hit mass-market, are parents going to buy four of these for the family? Absolutely not.

I’m not assuming anything

This is a brand new product

We have PlayStation VR two and I do agree that I don’t like wearing them for more than half an hour playing Gran Turismo

I just dislike when people are somehow trying to share their negative and/or ill- conceived opinions on a forum. What for?

When dude says 256 GB that’s not enough what does he really know?

Other guy says always wait for the fourth generation. Oh yeah, that’s a real smart comment. I really loved reading. Just wait 5 years or so :). Cool!

Other guy says he’s a doctor and not broke blah blah. He hates goggles. lol. Ok. But he’s gonna post about it. lol. Did you hear about these being comfy to wear? I’d rather hear that than your CV

Lacking imagination.

The Meta Quest 3 gave me a headache, as much as I wanted to like it. Having screens that close to your eyes isn't comfortable for some people, especially when they simulate objects that appear to be much further away in the distance. This creates dissonance and causes some discomfort. Obviously my case won't apply to many people, but I'm still trying to figure out what problem the Vision Pro is solving for consumers.

I applaud Apple for engineering this device. Clearly it will pave the way for smaller and lighter AR devices and eventually smart glasses. Furthermore, the App Store is going to go bonkers creating cool solutions for this thing that we haven't even thought of yet.

The issue I see with the first several versions of Vision Pro is that it obviously isn't designed to be worn outside while walking around the city in everyday life. This means it is relegated to wearing at home while you're sitting or standing around, and that's where I struggle to see the problem it is going to solve, other than a cool way to experience content and virtual worlds - making it more of an entertainment device than a genuine productivity device. I hope I am swiftly proven wrong about this.

You're assuming a lot right there....and if the "doctor" bit is about me, I never said I was a doctor; I'm an informaticist in clinical pharmacy..

I think this device is niche, will stay niche, and won't have mass-market appeal until it's indistinguishable from a pair regular glasses. It will sell well...to enthusiasts and specialists.

Have a good day.

I’ll definitely preorder. With the hopes of reselling for a major profit. If the market doesn’t drive the price up, I’ll return it and let someone else have their shot.

Yes. You too!

I’m so excited Applevision is coming so soon now!

This is what we should be talking about!

I think a lot of the posts on this forum are Uber drivers waiting for a ride getting paid seven dollars to make negative posts about Apple on here by some doomer stock day traders!

“Who is going to want a cell phone without a keyboard?” Same comments with every new product.

After many years and countless products, I was curious, excited, and fascinated by everything software and hardware-related, from macOS X to all the iMacs, to the metal constructions of all the MacBooks, the iPods, the iPads, the advent of the iPhone and its various versions. But this thing here, the Apple vision, evokes no feeling in me other than boredom and apathy.
And yet here you are reading forums about Vision Pro and commenting about it.

What did those headsets in the hospital that you tried weigh? It is relevant to your point that they were physically irritating. Sincerely curious. Also it's been my experience with hospital instruments that they rarely put the time into ergonomic research that Apple is known for. Though I have concerns too about the wearing experience.

I dont think people are making the point that everyone with a high income will buy (high income = buying this to use your vernacular), clearly you won't. People are making the point that it may not be affordable to everyone but it is affordable to some, and some of those may buy it. The point is criticizing it on price alone is not sufficient to judge whether it will be a 'success' or not. (not saying you made that point)

I agree. There aren't many (any?) families that will buy them for everyone. But again, that doesnt mean it wont succeed. Might mean (does mean) it doesn't succeed for you :)

Come on now.

Yah. I really do. I’d pay double to get earlier.

I’m stoked it’s coming up next month instead of delays and excuses right?

The reviews that have been done on it all say that it’s very mind blowing. So yah. Bring it! Take my money. And yah they gotta pay their team well!

You say “oh come on now”. But what can you really say that would be inciteful about the price? I wonder.

There’s no keynote for this. The press release includes no new footage. All the clips are what was shown at WWDC. You’d think if this really was ready for prime time they’d drum up excitement with a keynote that showed off apps or experiences that will be available at launch.

To you and all those assuming lack of new keynote for this means something bad... it might mean a) Apple already has had a keynote on it (why do two?), b) they don't want or need to drum up excitement for a product they can only sell a limited number of (supply chain limited), c) likewise this is going to be a totally new roll out experience for the stores that no doubt will require an appointment and lots of hands on... why drum up excitement to tell people to wait in line? d) most people are not the target audience, those that are (developers) don't need an event to get them to buy or not.

This is low key for all the reasons mentioned above. Sure as a consumer I wish there was more information available, but I am probably not the target audience. I haven't bought before a product with the intention of 'trying it out and then deciding to keep it or not', as I see that as ultimately driving up the price of a product (returns cost the company money), so I try to do my own research beforehand. But this product might be that one where I decide to do just that, buy knowing there is a safety net if this product does absolutely nothing for me.

That's fair!

I don't personally think it's overpriced, for what they are offering. It's not for me, but that's okay. I really, really, think that makes this a single-user device with guest mode is a mistake, though.

I'll find out the branding of the VR headsets that I've messed with and get back with you, but I'm pretty sure one was a hololens. They dried my eyes our and were itchy, and I just didn't like the experience.
