Unfortunately there is a good chance Oregon will NEVER get this feature due to insane privacy laws they have. 😔

They even pressured the US government to grant exemption to Oregon for RealID laws due to massive privacy implications before the state caved in.

From the Press Release:
  • Driver’s licenses and state IDs in Wallet are only presented digitally through encrypted communication directly between the device and the identity reader, so users do not need to unlock, show, or hand over their device.
Interesting...ok, that's helpful.

Nice in a press release theory...this is how it will probably work:

Sorry my hand held reader is down so need to take your phone to my police car. Oh not going to hand it over? Please step out the car.....

Yup - if you're comfortable handing your unlocked phone to a cop who then takes it out of your control, then you do you.

Me, I'll stay with physical ID.
Who says it's unlocked? It could be a feature from the lock screen, and once selected, FaceID/Code unlocks only this specific feature.

When I see the feature deployed and am satisfied the execution addresses all of my concerns, then I may consider it.

Until then, I remain skeptical about this, as is my default position with all Public Relations Press Releases announcing The Next Big Thing Apple Is Sure I Will Love.

"Could" do something is a non starter with me.

Now get off my lawn! :)

I’m shocked, stunned, that Georgia will be one of the first to support this.

Tennessee will almost certainly be one of the last.

Excited to see states (not my own yet) trying this out. At a certain point, I have to wonder why we need to carry any identification at all (for purposes of traffic enforcement) since officers are doing digital lookups no matter what, right?

Last time I flew, I had to give the TSA agent my phone anyway so they could barcode-style scan my boarding pass displaying in Wallet. Has that changed?

AZ, surprising, they're not one for innovation. looking forward to this everywhere. would be nice with passports too, but well see how it plays out

hopefully it won't be limited to just TSA and can go completely digital. the magnetic wallet is nice but limiting
I take it you're not from AZ.
AZ has had digital driver's licenses (Mobile ID) for a few years now.
We even have digital license plates.
TSA already accepts the ID via the Mobile ID app.
Glad to see Apple FINALLY allowing them to be added to Wallet.

There should be an all-in-one solution for all personal and private data paperless, emission-free, and securely stored in the cloud to keep the individual solely in control of their private data and protected against identity theft and cyber criminality to rightly exercise their freedoms to the fullest extend.

Why did nobody think about that?

yea, don't really want to be handing my phone over to the cops....

i'll keep my physical ID
It would be cool if you can Airdrop your ID card to cop’s screen, provided they have a large display or a tablet, so you don’t have to hand out your cell phone.

If you read the press release - or other comments - you'd see there's a mechanism to do something similar and they're not envisioning you handing over your phone.

read the article, you won't need to.."Users do not need to unlock, show, or hand over their device to a TSA security officer to present their ID, the company added."
That may be for TSA but what about police? I can tell you now not all depts are going to have the equipment for it.
It may eventually get there but I know some Depts that still don't have laptops in their vehicles.

Very cool feature. Can’t believe my state is going first. Shocking.
