When I see the feature deployed and am satisfied the execution addresses all of my concerns, then I may consider it.

Until then, I remain skeptical about this, as is my default position with all Public Relations Press Releases announcing The Next Big Thing Apple Is Sure I Will Love.

"Could" do something is a non starter with me.

Now get off my lawn! :)
I don't disagree with being cautious.

It is wirelessly transmitted. You don’t hand anyone your phone.
Assuming they have the technology to read it. Considering some schools still don't have reliable computers I doubt every county will be on board with outfitting every officer and spares with the necessary tech.

That may be for TSA but what about police? I can tell you now not all depts are going to have the equipment for it.
It may eventually get there but I know some Depts that still don't have laptops in their vehicles.
According to the Press Release, this is just for TSA as of now. No mention of using it anywhere else. And since it is wireleslly transmitted and not just a photocopy on your phone, I would say 99% of police agencies do not have the technology of what will be required to read it from the persons phone.

Forget cops or TSA, how about how long until bartenders and servers and cashiers are on board?

I still regularly get surprised remarks from cashiers who've never seen someone use ApplePay with their watch... doesn't make me hopeful that an on-phone DL is gonna be recognized as valid anytime soon.
I’ve used the Arizona mDL app just fine at many places here. I’m sure the Apple solution will be similar.

In the Arizona implementation, police here have Zebra handheld devices (the same things Walmart and Target uses)

How long until someone makes an app that spoofs the UI of the ID and allows you to load a fake ID with custom photos?

Never, ever would I take out my phone or watch and give to any authority figure no matter what the situation, unless lawfully confiscated. I'll take the extra step taking out my wallet and giving them my identification. In the U.S. the supreme court has ruled the cops can trick you into getting what they want if there is a "suspicion" of a crime.

I can see this on a simplistic/rugged/minimal phone (watch?) could be a neat way to not need to carry a wallet or iPhone for 80% of the time.

yea, don't really want to be handing my phone over to the cops....

i'll keep my physical ID

the having to show them license thing is rather BS and outdated now anyway when just about every patrol car at least in my county that is in the boonies has a laptop connected to network . they most likely can pull up your information including drivers license photo just by using either your license plate or your name.

One step at a time, I know. However, I would like that the digital license would include ‘endorsements’ like gaming and concealed carry.

I’m sure the Live Free And Die state will never consider such a thing.

Still leads to a possible result of the cops taking your phone. No TY.
Is nobody reading the article before commenting?

This works like Apple Pay. You don’t give your device to the other person. In fact, it doesn’t even have any of your information in the wallet app. It’s just like a credit card.

There is no reason to give your device to someone else, nor would they have access to anything on your device.
