I will be carrying my wallet for awhile. I have had many times the card readers NFC is not working preventing me from using Apple Pay. I can see the same thing a happening with the license readers. The human on the other end is also an issue. Many vendors advertise Apple Pay but have no idea what to do when you pay.

Assuming they have the technology to read it. Considering some schools still don't have reliable computers I doubt every county will be on board with outfitting every officer and spares with the necessary tech.
Are you kidding me? Police budget almost always outranks schools budget, especially for new tech

C’mon Colorado!
I’m weirdly excited about this feature. As one who carries as little on me as is functionally possible, this is the final nail in my physical wallet coffin. Maybe. Prob not. Ha.

You will need an ID and vaccine card to go to a restaurant and vote so this might be helpful for everyone.

May be the big cities but not every where else. Dept here is still trying to get the councilmen to approve money for replacement vehicles and to get laptops in every car

I am not sure which country that would be but in the US it’s hard to even imaging it being true. Schools employ far more people and have far more land assets and buildings. I just looked up NYC and the school budget is 30x the police budget which is even more than I would have guessed…but completely makes sense both are government employees and one is much bigger.

Two things:
1. How is Washington and California not at the forefront of something like this. Just crazy.
2. Maybe it has something to do with privacy and safety. Handing your device over to law enforcement is not a good idea ever and handing your personal device to multiple different people multiple times a day is gonna lead to a lot of germs being passed back and forth. I dont need to be wiping down my phone everytime i need to show my ID for something.

If this requires the police to have an “identity reader” I don’t see my city spending the funds for this. Asking for an ID is cheaper. It’ll be interesting to see how travelers with Digital ID get treated in non-Digital ID states.

Hopefully this will come to Canada one day

That being said, how long will it take before cops, TSA, etc are aware of this and you don't
have to teach them (or argue with them over it)?
Ontario has been on a mission to get Drivers License, Ontario ID (purple), and Health card into digital wallet since last year. A specific date/month but the company that initially won the $4Bil contract screwed a few things up, mainly they released a scanning app pre-maturely with a quick support video and a few ppl are NOT happy.

Ontario Statement: see attached screenshots.

many provinces are already rushing to get their “temporary” solution to vaccination “passport” (stupid name when it only shows you’re fully vaccinated) via QR code.

yea, don't really want to be handing my phone over to the cops....

i'll keep my physical ID
This works just the same as Apple Pay - the full CC / Debit card info is not ever displayed. And if you’ve enabled it can be accessible from the Lock Screen.

if a cop is going to take your phone (not ID reasons) don’t worry them having your phone is the LEAST of your worries - meaning you’re not just detained you’re being arrested so they’ll take it anyway. Common sense.

the ID may not show your home address but your name DOB, height of you need glasses to drive maybe(?) state of issue and most likely a bar code they’d be able to quickly scan for specifics.

it’ll work and remain secure within Apple Walket & the Secure Enclave.
Hopefully not as long as Apple pay at mcdonalds
Lol right? Faster to just get it via Uber Eats. If you have an iPhone X then Apple Pay gen1 is super slow.
Forget cops or TSA, how about how long until bartenders and servers and cashiers are on board?

I still regularly get surprised remarks from cashiers who've never seen someone use ApplePay with their watch... doesn't make me hopeful that an on-phone DL is gonna be recognized as valid anytime soon.
Real talk!!

Which really puts priority in perspective. While it's likely true that many if not most places would rather incarcerate than educate not every county in the US has a budget surplus.

Maybe this is answered somewhere, but I can’t figure this out.

This only mentions TSA checkpoints. That’s nice, but what about your return flight from a state which doesn’t (yet) support this?

Will this eventually be valid for traffic stops? Businesses that require ID for any reason?

Seems that with the initial implementation, I can’t see a situation where you WON’T need your physical ID now.

Theoretically you could put your wallet in the control center and hand over a locked phone with the wallet open which has its' own drawbacks.

I will be carrying my wallet for awhile.
Me too.

I see a lot of people posting on the forum talking about how they never carry a wallet or ID on them, and until recently, this just wouldn't work for me.

Now, maybe, but even if I used it, I would still carry a physical ID and CC.

It is a nice idea, but I will be a very late adopter.

Now we can show our phone when we go to vote! And the bank, and the pharmacy, and when we return something and don't have a receipt! So many places where you have to show an ID, will be so convenient.
Keep in mind all those places are private, and they don’t have to accept a digital ID unless they choose to. I wouldn’t expect all those things to happen overnight as soon as your ID is available in your phone.

You know the type... complain BEFORE learning/understanding... that's where vaccine deniers come from.
Oh whatever.

Thing is, I've done enough in my life to not feel the need to prove myself to a bunch of self-styled tough guy random keyboard warriors.

But then it's always easier for certain...people...here to pretend to be tough rather than actually go out and do stuff.

And FYSA: VP-8, Desert Storm.

GFY, tough guy.

I'm sure PA will be one of the last ones to adopt this since they are in the stone ages with pretty much everything. I mean we were just finally able to buy alcohol in a grocery store within the last few years.

read the article, you won't need to.."Users do not need to unlock, show, or hand over their device to a TSA security officer to present their ID, the company added."
You are equating the TSA at an airport to the police. Updating the TSA equipment to support this isn’t nearly as big of a deal as trying to get every police cruiser set up with the right equipment. I don’t see every local police department being able to do this for a LONG time.
