I am actually in the market for a bike and treadmill. I ruled out Peloton because their treadmill can't be placed on carpet or a mat. I was going to get a NordicTrack x32i and a S22i Studio Cycle but suddenly it doesn't make sense to have a big screen in front of me that blocks my view of the TV and costs $33 a month.

I hate trainers tho. All I want is speed-adjusting 4k video of trails to run or ride that update daily. Let me use Apple music and blend ambient sounds with my own music. You know, so I can simulate going outside. (I live 30 miles from one of the west coast fires. I haven't been able to breath without a mask in weeks.)

Hmm I think I’ll stick to my Peloton Digital subscription. There are so many classes on there now it’s like comparing Apple TV+ to Netflix’s catalogue.

$10/month is what a gym membership costs. That gets you all the equipment. This does not..

“Membership fees vary widely based on your location and gym of preference, but the industry-wide average falls in at $58 per month, or $696 per year”

Can you provide a link to a 10 dollar gym membership? Have you ever been in a gym? :)

I like the idea behind this, and I think it’s kind of long over-due, but that’s way too pricey for consumers to spend that kind of money in a down economy. Curious how how this continues to mature.

Comparable videos are freely available on YouTube, or you can pay $10 to buy comparable videos on DVD.

How is it that this isn't just part of Apple TV+? Apple TV+ is majorly lacking in content - throwing this in would do a bit to fix that...
Ooh which gym do you know that costs $10. That’s the bargain of the century ????

This will flop so hard 😄
You are SO wrong. Move on

But do they have an Apple TV app & integration to show your vitals on ATV during workouts? This is a cool feature.

Nike Training Club doesn't have a dedicated AppleTV app; instead, you AirPlay from your iPhone to AppleTV and it does a full screen display of the workout (not just mirroring the screen). It does display your heart rate on screen if you are using Apple Watch also. It works pretty well, although I've had some stuttering issues if you are streaming music along with the workout unfortunately. A native AppleTV app would be nice, but I suppose then it would not be able to sync up with the heart rate data as easily.

Lame. This is catered to people who workout in Lululemon clothes. If you workout, you know exactly who I'm talking about.
As a personal trainer I’m laughing too. Apple is selling entertainment, not results. But you get what you pay for I guess.

Anyone serious about fitness needs some sort of facilities like a public or private gym (even your own garage) and optionally a trainer supervising your exercise, whether in person at a distance or over a video call.

These virtual classes are mass market programs with no accountability and results for most will be far and few. Not all, but most, given the average person’s level of commitment.

I won’t even touch nutrition...which is 90% of the fitness equation.

Surprised to see all the negative reactions.

I’m kind of excited about it.

Watching YouTube videos does not cut it. Nothing like a random ad to ruin the experience (and no, I’m not paying to remove ads). I expect higher quality videos, tighter integration, and a rotating catalog of videos to help keep me motivated.

In an area where gyms are still closed, every bit of motivation helps.

The bargain bin $10 Planet Fitness membership is a joke for anyone serious about fitness. They don’t even have a squat rack! 🤣

Isn't Planet Fitness just $10/month?

You're correct that I don't go to gyms, but if they cost much more than that, I'd wonder why more people don't just buy their own equipment? At $700/year, you can pretty easily buy yourself a new piece of gym equipment each year.

I’ve not been a fan of the other Apple services, but Fitness+ sounds very good... especially since it is tied to the Apple Watch and not a dedicated piece of exercise equipment. If only the AW could be paired with an iPad.

Many people don't have the space, which costs a ton more than anything else. In my area, property in any decent town costs $300/sqft. So having the space for a workout area can easily add $30,000 to the cost of a home. That's not nothing.

Also, while Planet Fitness does charge $10/month, that gym suuuuucks. It's literally designed to discourage you from working out (they give out free pizza or bagels when the gyms gets too crowded, the colors are designed to get you to leave, lots of other tactics). Any decent gym with good classes costs at least $40/month, and often much more.

I think Apple's pricing is just right. Peleton without the bike, for just the workout classes, costs $16/month and it's pretty awesome honestly. BeachBody On Demand costs roughly $8.50/month depending on the plan. So $10/month seems like the right spot.

Once the video content is torrent/magnetable, what then? $10 a month for what exactly?
