It's funny - when I first first saw the rumours about a foldable iPhone, I thought to myself I have 0% interest to buy this. So I didn't read or look at any other articles about this device and literally knew nothing about it.

I'm on my lunch break and checked out this article to see what all the fuss was about and, by the time I reached the end of the article, I 100% had made up my mind to buy it! Then I went to the Apple app and saw it is $3000 Canadian and went right back to 0% odds!

Honestly, it could be worth every penny of that from a technology point of view, but I think I would feel nervous carrying it around and using it as I do a phone now? I have destroyed one or two phones in my life and, it doesn't feel great, but it isn't the end of the world - but I feel like dropping and destroying A $3000 device because I didn't slip it into my pocket carefully enough might make for a bad day!

Impressive, but a couple of things that make it a no for me:

1: The inferior camera on it compared to the Pro models would be a big miss for me.
2: Unless Apple have managed to get rid of the crease, I do not like the crease I have seen on other folder phones.

This basically eats the iPad mini market for people with enough money. The opened screen is only a bit smaller than a mini screen. I've been an iPad 11" user for like a decade, but I'm on the 13" bus after I finally bought a used one. An iPhone pro screen is already a good ways to an iPad mini. The Duo definitely makes dedicated iPad mini or even 11" slightly redundant.

It will be decided in how much Apple allows the UI to cross over between iPhone apps and iPad apps. It seems like Apple is allowing some of the iPad specific features on this device in full screen.

Hopefully, they continue updating the iPad mini.

One device that does everything is definitely not a solution for all of us.

I'm probably going to buy this. Trade in my iPhone 17. The weight is concerning tho. But I see many uses of this for me. Going to wait for reviews tho. Probably should go to the Apple Store to try it out too.

If it works the way I think it will then it would be a perfect phone for someone who's disabled.

Probably tons of work for developers to adapt the design of their apps for the new ratio and double-screen concept. Expect at least a 12-18 months until most of your apps are updated, and you will still find many many apps on the AppStore that will enter in compatibility mode and would probably look awful/weird for years. It depends on how well the phone will sell. I still remember all these stretched apps on the first iPad. It took the developers community ages to adapt.

Modern window API’s in Apple’s operating systems are dynamic and they adjust to size and orientation accordingly. If developed correctly, the actual OS can determine where and how the UI displays itself to make the most of the display size. Yes, developers have finite control over it and iOS 27 does add a few very specific API’s for this new duel display device. But most current iPhone apps, as-is, will behave as expected.

Millions upon millions will buy this. In fact, I expect it to quickly be sold out. Not to incredible huge demand, more like 5 million this year, but because foxconn produces these much slower than the pro and pro max, insider experts reports…

foldable iPhone could go the way of Apple's Vision Pro headset, which the company priced at $3,699 (£2,729) and has not been a hit with buyers. Or, he said, it could be the company's next Apple Watch which, while not as popular as the iPhone, is bought by millions of people each year.

Wood noted that the current market for foldable smartphones from the likes of Samsung and Huawei make up only 2% of smartphone sales. Even with Apple's version likely driving interest and demand, sales are only expected to reach 4% of the total market in the next decade, according to data and analytics firm FDM.

4%!!!

Isn't that pretty much how the whole tech world speaks? And now it also seems how on air news people speak to each other too (CNN, CNBC Bloomberg etc). A little too casual IMHO.
At least fast-food reviews are still formal and buttoned up. 😉 “Hello, ladies, gentlemen, and everyone watching. Welcome to Report of the Week.” - Reviewbrah

I'm still not sure who this is actually for.

Cool tech, but I remain puzzled as to the narrative of the buyer for it.

It’s the perfect device for anyone who travels a lot for work, but good luck getting a request approved to get this over the company standard issue iPhone SE.

For any regular consumer it’s just insane money for a foldable iPad mini.

I projected 3.14% by year-end in the “iFold will fail” thread. 😉

I have to say, the OS features have me impressed. But there's not a chance in hell that I'll ever buy one. The price is $3000 Canadian before any taxes for just the 256GB model. Thats insane in the membrane.

Rumors have a new iPad mini coming out with a slightly bigger screen and OLED. Yes, they will continue to sell it because it costs only $500, without taking into account a price increase. It’s often sold on Amazon for $100 off, too. An iPad mini and an iPhone 17 are way cheaper than an iPhone Duo.

As a long-time Samsung enthusiast and current Z Fold8 user, I must acknowledge that the iPhone Duo offers some unexpectedly impressive features.

Notable highlights include its IP68 certification, an under-display camera beneath the inner screen, Apple Pencil support on both displays, Flex Mode and a vapor chamber

While Samsung has previously implemented the under-display camera and S Pen support, I anticipate these will return with the Z Fold9, alongside the addition of Flex Mode, a vapor chamber and likely IP68 certification.

The iPhone Duo appears to be a strong contender in terms of hardware, however, its success will depend heavily on software performance, and I remain skeptical it will match the refinement and versatility of Samsung’s One UI 9.x.
