This is kind of where I was. iPhone (mini was my fav) + iPad mini. I would use the iPad mini for when I need to read work documents, those times I needed a slightly bigger screen. When I got my 17 Pro I just stopped using my iPad mini as much, not because I felt the 17 Pro screen was big enough for my needs but just because I didn't want to carry both while on the go. For me I think iPhone Duo could solve this... maybe

Agreed. iPhone Air2 will be part of Apple event next spring with iPhone 18 and 18e.
I don't think it will be too missed. On iPads I find the touchID to be easier to work than trying to line my face up for faceID. Once you get to a certain screen size the FaceID has diminishing returns because of how many positions you use it in.
For instance iPhone duo would need multiple (at least two sets) faceID cameras and sensors and still wouldn't cover all the ways you can use it folded, unfolded, as a tent, etc. one carefully placed TouchID button can cover all of those acceptably.

I'm honestly in the total opposite camp where I prefer specialized devices that really excel in their role.
That's why I personally want the smallest & lightest iPhone I can get and prefer a normal robust iPad Mini.

FFS. It’s a dynamic GUI. Those controls can easily be positioned on the left side of the screen with a simple toggle.
Just look at Safari… how you can position tabs either at the bottom of the screen or top.

Yeah, IDK if I'm typical but I use the 5X camera on my 15 Pro a lot (even though it's only 12 MP), so that would be a big downgrade for me. Not sure if there's room in this form factor for a prism/mirror config, probably not. I actually want more than that, something like a 48 MP 6X to 8X native lens would be amazing.
EDIT: Just got around to reading about the new iPhone 18 Pro, it apparently does have a 48 MP telephone camera, however it is described as "4X/8X" and "8X optical quality", which makes it sound like it's not a true 8X optical lens? Or are they inserting a doubler lens that gives you 8X at the expense of a stop of aperture? Anyway, still a shame you'll have to choose between foldable and good telephoto optics.

It makes sense that this will support Apple Pencil, and since it does, it makes it a much more compelling device for me as a design professional...especially with the built in nano texture screen finish.

Isn't that pretty much how the whole tech world speaks? And now it also seems how on air news people speak to each other too (CNN, CNBC Bloomberg etc). A little too casual IMHO.
If they brought back the iPhone Mini I'd do the same as you suggest straight away, I miss that form factor so much.

Why the hell didnt they show anything about it during the presentation then? I really don’t get not telling us and showing us how to charge this thing. Still can’t see how it would look charging with MagSafe and how it looks opened while on a charger

Probably tons of work for developers to adapt the design of their apps for the new ratio and double-screen concept. Expect at least a 12-18 months until most of your apps are updated, and you will still find many many apps on the AppStore that will enter in compatibility mode and would probably look awful/weird for years. It depends on how well the phone will sell. I still remember all these stretched apps on the first iPad. It took the developers community ages to adapt.

One of the best foldable phones 100 percent , i was focused on the hardware and I didn’t even think how the software would work but apple has done a fantastic job.
Watching the demo it all just works , love the new layouts for apps and the dock to make it easier to use and make the most out of the screen .
Was anybody else shocked how big the cover Display was ? I was so surprised when i saw it go edge to edge especially as its not a traditional screen size .

Millions upon millions will buy this. In fact, I expect it to quickly be sold out. Not to incredible huge demand, more like 5 million this year, but because foxconn produces these much slower than the pro and pro max, insider experts reports…
I’d be interested to see whether devs use the extra screen estate for control mechanisms rather than just showing more content.
I.e. garage band or Logic Pro could have the keyboard or drums on one screen and the arrange window on the other.
I often think where the iPad falls over sometimes is that laptop ux where you have the control flat on the desk and you control the screen that’s upright.
I think so many apps could benefit from that on the iPhone which is often too crushed with content (games with joypad controls overlayed on the main screen )
if anything I think this device will bring back the whole personal productivity device thing like the old Nokia communicators etc.
it’s niche will end up being business execs and creatives who don’t want to lug a laptop everywhere but still get things done. I think Apple will lean into that possibly.

Very disappointing that it is a matte screen. I prefer glossy ones. Think the matte might help with less crease visibility.
