That said, iTunes doesn't seem to be increasing song prices in the UK. I've found no mention of the new tiered system anywhere on Apple's UK site. There's mention of it on the US site's "Hot News" section, but the UK "Hot News" markedly omits the last few sentences about price changes in April.

If that's true, we're getting DRM-free for the same price even after April. Sweet!

In Belgium a lot of songs were converted to iTunes Plus.

The Mini wasn't upgraded. That is objectively disappointing.
And the reasons are: people like the form factor, like the OS but not the price for such old specs.

Whining? Of course! That exactly the same you are doing in your post about others' whining. That is the only purpose of this discussion: venting and whining.

You've got to admit there is some value in it, for otherwise you yourself wouldn't do it...

Oh is that the purpose of this discussion? I guess so. I seems like there's been far more b*tching over what wasn't in the keynote than what was. But I'd think that be the purpose of the rumor round up threads, since all of this "disappointment" is based on bs rumors anyway. And look up whining.

Who else thinks iLife 09 wasn't released yesterday to boost iWork sales?

If they came out the same day, most people would pick iLife and put off iWork.

Now, to get something *now* we buy the new iWork, so Apple sales a lot more.

You forgot to add that the Mini has Mac OS X and that the Dell has Windows Vista. Sort of balances it a bit.
Because we all know that one can never change the OS on their computer :/
I seems like there's been far more b*tching over what wasn't in the keynote than what was.

Thats because the keynote was rather disappointing. Rumors or not, this year was not up to par.

Does anyone know if the new iMovie 09 supports native AVCHD editing and saving? I want to be able to import my AVCHD Full HD Videos with no conversion and then save them as m2ts files (AVCHD). Is it possible?
I wouldn't bet my money that Apple supports that but since I didnt find anything on their website I though I should ask the community...

I don't understand why I should lose on quality and resolution just to edit my Full HD Videos...At the moment I use Premiere Pro CS4 and it works perfectly...(of course it is really expensive and is not made for home users...)

I was looking for info on this earlier and all I could find related to AVCHD was this:

Camcorder Archive

Easily back up original AVCHD or other file-based video clips with the new archive feature. Import archived camcorder files from the Finder at any time.

i doubt it will support avchd editing though as i;m sure they would of talked about it as a feature in the keynote... but who knows until we get to use imovie09

I'd wait and see on that one. Apple has a trend of charging higher European prices for their services...

That's why I don't buy anything in iTunes... (and it's a trend because they have customers...).
When the dollar was strong, I understood the reasoning of Apple... but now it's the opposite... so there's no point that I have to pay more than an US citizen for the same thing.
Thanks to the EU Comission, this is going to end :) Apple has been warned that it should let EU citizens buy wherever they want... but until this happens, I won't buy any audio/video; I buy hardware... but thanks to a special educational discount and some promotions, the price becomes more or less the same.

I'd buy the box set with Snow Leopard but since I'll be wanting to install on at least 3 machines my conscience knows I'll need to pay for individual family packs.

Well, if you take a look at the Apple Store, you'll see that there's a family pack version of the box set, too. If they update the box set once Snow Leopard hits the shelves, some of my relatives gets the iLife 09 family pack I've ordered and I'll be finally buying iWork as well.

The box set sounds like a good marketing tool for Snow Leopard because if you can get iLife, iWork, and Snow Leopard for $169 a lot more people are going to upgrade, especially if SL is released for the normal $129, when it won't have very many new features.

I'm wondering that, in considering how NEW this whole 'Mac box set' thing really is, Snow Leopard might actually be a free update. I can't see Apple pushing Leopard this late in the game (with Snow Leopard due to be released in June or so) if it wasn't going to be a free update.

I recently had a new business owner pay me to fix his website that he had paid his daughter's former boyfriend to make. Turns out the guy had used iWeb to make the website. Pretty, but totally impractical, totally bloated, very inefficient, in general a total mess. Forms stuff was broken, etc. It used lots of duplicate copies of images that were 10x larger than they needed to be, etc. just simply awful.

Why in the world anybody would use iWeb to design a business Web site is beyond me.

It's a consumer app. It's meant to create personal Web sites. Does anybody think Apple would charge $16 (1/5 of the iLife price) for it if it was a professional app that was made to compete with Dreamweaver?

This thread shocks me. I completely understand the disappointment over the lack of new hardware, but how can anyone be disappointed with the software releases?

The iPhoto updates are well-documented on this thread already. They're so good that I, as a $200 Aperture user, am extremely jealous of some of the features y'all are getting.

The iMovie updates are absolutely incredible. First, we get the functionality of 06 back (effects and more transitions) with the convenience of 08 (easily being able to select clips from every event you've ever shot). Add the slow/fast motion, maps, themes, precision editing tools, advanced editing tools (green screen, selective audio, etc.), and anti camera shake, and you've got an app that worth FAR more than $79 on its own. iMovie 09 basically fixes everything we all bitched about when 08 came out, but kicks it up a HUGE notch.

GarageBand... The music lessons look fun, but that's not the point of GarageBand, imo. The rest is yet to see. We don't really know what any of the new core GB features are. Come to think of it, I can't imagine what else they'd add that's not already in there. GarageBand is a consumer app that's already capable of producing recordings that are BETTER than most of the crap we're hearing from "professional" music studios.

iWeb... Well, it is what it is. A way for non-savvy computer users to share their digital lives online. I don't think there's much more they *can* do with it, without treading into pro app waters.

iDVD... Sure we'd all like to see updates. For me, though, anything new in iDVD would be stuff just for the sake of being new. Those of us entrenched in the Mac lifestyle may be bored with it, but let's face it... You can go with the default template, change a few drop zones, add a movie and a slideshow, and you're going to dazzle the hell out of your non-geek friends and family. What could really be changed in this app to make the haters feel iLife is "worth it"?

iWork...

Keynote is king. Nothing needed to be changed there, yet they stepped it up. Kudos.

Pages & Numbers also fixed just about everything people complained about. They're now, functionality-wise, serious competitors to MS Office for what 99% use office suites for. We have the functions and advanced formatting options we clamored for.

We have the ability to *work on* Excel and Word docs, without having to re-export every time we make a change.

iWork.com will fail miserably, because people don't get it (kinda like .Mac), but I find it to be exciting. It's like combining the performance of working locally with the collaboration advantages of working on a slow, online suite, like Google Apps. Great stuff, imo.

I have dreamweaver, and while I am fairly good at it. I prefer iWeb (for personal use), it doesn't have as many features but is much easier to use. I can understand why someone would prefer iWeb for a small business.
If you are running a business out of your garage or a small operation and have no budget, iWeb is a very easy way to get on the web and then maintain your site. It certainly beats any 'free' websites hosting companies offer.

I'm surprised no iTunes/Quicktime point updates. Usually, Apple will do a x.y.(z+1) update for these when they release a new iLife version for compatibility reasons.

Don't expect that till around this fall.

I would expect the BOX set is still around when SnowLeopard arrives. Of course with the latest OS then. Maybe I think about it then.

I would definitely consider buying it if this were the case, however I have my doubts. In my opinion, Apple has positioned the box set to appease those who would otherwise complain that the '09 iSuites are "Leopard only". This set allows Tiger users to use the latest iSuites and finally upgrade to the latest OS. When Snow Leopard ultimately arrives (which may easily not be for another 6 months) these new iSuites will have been out for a while and the "Leopard only" factor may be somewhat diminshed. Additionally, the current box set includes an OS which is over a year old - no big deal. But to include a brand new OS in a bundle like this? I say it's doubtful. Again, I believe this was done to mitigate any backwards compatibility complaints and that come the release of Snow Leopard Apple will be selling just the OS for the $129 that they always charge for a new OS - and that's it.

I just pre-ordered iLife '09. I've been watching the videos about all the new stuff on the Apple site and it just looks amazing. We need to get a new camera so I'm going to make sure to get a GPS one. I can't wait to try out the automatic face tagging and iMovie stabilisation. I wish they didn't delay the release to the end of the month though, I can't wait to try this stuff out.

Yeah, I haven't checked out the videos yet for iLife or iWork, but definitely want to - that, and watch the keynote stream as well. Always like seeing the new features and so forth in action.
