iLife 09 is really amazing.

Well, I've finished the keynote stream (what a great video demonstration) and also finished the online videos as well.

I'm just impressed and that increases every day so far. Apple really did a tremendous job.

I can't wait for end of January to come now as I already have a number of photo and video projects I want to update with their new features.

What I really can't wait for is to see the look on the faces of marketing at work when the stuff I produce is better than what they did. :D

iMovie '09
Dynamic Themes: Context-sensitive menus for clips, along with animated travel maps
Automatic Image Stabilization: Helps reduce motion in shaky video
Precision Editor: Video and audio
Advanced Drag and Drop: For placing video wherever you want it in the timeline
Video Effects: Brings back special effects to iMovie

What about:
It starts!: the application will actually start even if you have a few hundred movie clips in iPhoto!

The boxed set is nice for those who do not have Leopard, but wouldn't a combo set of just iLife and iWork be nice too?

Yes, although I am ALL for staggered releases of iLife & iWork. Gives more time for the ol' wallet to recover.

ilife updates look cool, but they continue to find ways to make you part with cash (garageband lessons).
Hey, if you don't want to pay money for Sarah McLachlan or John Fogerty to give you music lessons as well as a history of said song that they're teaching you, then DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!

As for me, I'll probably buy a few.

Also, thought the iWork updates (esp. to Pages, which I use daily) were good. Also glad to see the iTunes changes, although I may NOT be so glad when I see the Complete My Album total...

Overall, I thought it was good. I did have extremely lowered expectations (which may have led to my overall happiness with these announcements), but Apple did exceed mine!

Finally, maybe it's time I put forth yet another wild speculatory piece. Not now, though, as I'm on my iPhone.

What a nice feature for iPhoto '09, or OS X itself, would be to center the desktop picture around a face. This would be useful especially when using a portrait oriented photo for the desktop picture. When using a picture like this as the desktop picture right now, it is just zoomed into the center to fit it on the screen, which is not necessarily the focus of the image.

Well, if you take a look at the Apple Store, you'll see that there's a family pack version of the box set, too. If they update the box set once Snow Leopard hits the shelves, some of my relatives gets the iLife 09 family pack I've ordered and I'll be finally buying iWork as well.

I guess that would work if your relatives lived in the same house.

Ok, I've decided to put iPhoto back on the dock (removed it and deleted library when Picasa 3 came out). I'm going to use Picasa 3 as a organizing and basic editing tool. Photoshop Elements 6 for more advanced edits. iPhoto (which I'll have Picasa put only certain, handpicked photos into an "iPhoto" folder) to "make stuff", albums to sync to my iPod, and uploading to Facebook and Flickr. That's the work flow. This much is certain.

iLife '09 seems like a decent set of applications for people, who love playing with pictures & having their personal data collected on facebook, flickr, and other online-sources.

I really hope they've cut down Garagebands footprint (RAM wise), and fixed the recording delay, having everything 1/16th out of time on every recording is hideously frustrating...

I think the ilife 09 upgrade plan is faulty. You had to have bought a mac after jan 6th to get it for $9, I got my uni MBP the first day. I think all owners of the new mb/mbp's should be able to upgrade.

It makes sense that they only provide cheaper (not quite free, which would have been nicer) upgrades for people who bought macs after the release of the new software, if at all. Any sooner wouldn't really make sense.

However, I bought mine 3 and a half hours from the 6th of January (8:30pm on the 5th) and managed to get the cheaper upgrade (which over here is NZ$19), so who knows how far they'll stretch it back.

I think the upgrade plan is messed up too. I paid full retail for iLife 08 last summer and now to "upgrade" to 09 it's the same price as what I paid 6 months ago! The "upgrade" costs the same as a retail version at BestBuy.

I follow software pricing regularly and upgrades vs. full version prices are usually different. Upgrade my XXX!!

You didn't pay full retail, you paid an upgrade pricing then too. Exactly the same as now. What makes you think you're getting gipped? There's only one type of disk (two if you count the family pack, I suppose), and it's the same price for everyone. If you bought a Mac that will support iLife '09, you already own a version of iLife ('06 or '08), so you're upgrading that version.

That makes absolutely no sense, why would they give you something that wasn't even announced or available when you bought your computer? who would run a business that way?

quick questions as i'm fairly new to mac and its software. when i get it and install it, do i need to uninstall or move to trash iLife 08, before install. or will ilife 09 take care of all those details for me?

If Apple wasn't a company that is so tight lipped until actually launching something, that would make sense. But as it is, my argument stands, I think. I dont see why the newest product that is $2000 shouldnt have the newest software included that comes out within a short time, or at least for the cheaper upgrade price.
