Seems like there's a lot of disappointment out there due to the lack of love for iWeb, and I couldn't agree more.

What a shame.

Look, I know how to write CSS/HTML and have done tons of Wordpress / Drupal for clients, yet I STILL do some simple sites (including my own) in iWeb.

Why?

Because it's super-simple to update, and I can do it offline, and it has some cool (again SIMPLE) plug ins and "bells" and "whistles" that you can sprinkle in. The only issues I have with it are minor, like being forced to use a "slideshow" for portfolio-type work (as opposed to full-screen options), and having to "hack" it a bit to go full-width, etc.

It's way easier than Dreamweaver (which isn't really a valid comparison, actually), and more flexible than programs like RapidWeaver.

iWeb is a great "entry" for people just trying to "get out there" and get a site up. A toe in the water as it were.

As others have pointed out, this was a HUGE missed opportunity to include some HTML5 elements (even CSS3). Not updating iWeb is a HUGE FAIL on Apple's part.

Couldn't agree more.

no iweb = no helping google

I remember a longtime ago Steve jobs demonstrating iweb, and showing off how people can easily add google ads using their adsense account. Well apple is now just starting out with their new iAds campaign. maybe they didnt update iweb cause they didnt want to promote anymore google ads. maybe they need more time to develop iweb to include their new iAd campaign?

It makes sense. if your going to help people design websites, why not use iad instead of google?

iWeb ´11 to come in new Mac App store?

Hi all, Like everybody else I am surprised that Apple didn't release an updated version of iWeb this time. I was eagerly waiting for that! Then it struck me: Maybe they are simply holding it back for the official launch of the Mac App store?

No 64-bit on iLife 11

I have iLife 11 and I can confirm no 64-bit. The programs are snappy on my late 08 MBP !

iPhoto is wonderful. But it still aint no Aperture in terms of editing/adjustment options. The usability of iPhoto, however, is quite compelling, I must say.

I doubt it. If they updated some of the apps, they would've updated all of them at the same time. Doesn't make sense to me to upgrade some now & then another a few months from now considering they're all the same suite. Would make it very confusing to the customers.

Don't forget: Apple designed iPhoto for consumers & Aperture for more professional use so of course Aperture will have more options.

I still use iMovie HD which I think was part of iLife '06. That version of iMovie is much better than any version of iMovie available including the new not very user friendly looking iMovie 11. Apple thinks everyone wants to make Hollywood blockbusters out of the family camping trip. I am so tired of this BS. (bloated software). Apple also thinks everybody can become a recording star with Garage Band. Joe public can now easily fix all his band members mistakes. How about just becoming a better musician. I am a full time gigging pro musician. Nothing worse to me than seeing Best Buy sell musical instruments and Apple sell recording software (Garage Band) to the entire planet earth population because it's just so easy to be a musician now days that everyone can do it. yeah rite. I resent this to the max.

but my real rub.... No iWeb update! Too bad was really looking forward to seeing what they would do to that as I use iWeb daily. I am disappointed. I won't be buying iLife '11

wow. I don't even know where to begin...but, I'm off to rant on a Sears/Craftsman forum about all those hammers, drills and saws (ie, tools) they make. How dare these stupid homeowners try to fix something themselves! I'm a professional contractor, you know.

iLife '11 Not Present During Registration

I got my iLife '11 Family Pack today. Interestingly enough, when I attempted to register the software, iLife '11 is not an option. (See screen cap)

so nothing new for iweb. that's a big disappointment. i honestly could care less about imovie or garageband because i never use them.

i wonder what the hold up is? is apple negotiating with a third party developer to buy their product and make it apple's (i could see freeway express becoming iweb)

as for the full-screen mode they were hyping up yesterday, seems apple got a lot of feedback from windows users (who more often or not keep all their apps fullscreen).

as for the stuff they showed off in 10.7, seems to me that many of the ios integration could be included when the 10.6.6 upgrade hits. in fact almost everything they showed could be included with 10.6.6

I have all the Pro Apps (Logic, Final Cut, Dreamweaver etc.) but have been known to use iLife for quick stuff and it always looks good. This update is clearly aimed at consumers only though (which is to be expected, I guess) and everything is a bit gadgety for my tastes, so no upgrade here.

An update to iWeb would perhaps have swung it, and the lack of 64 bit is a little worrying this far down the line, but Apple need to add more features usable in the real world. What they've done (the gimmicky stuff such a movie face recognition, time stretching and beat locking) is extremely clever and may permeate upward but I have no use for now.

6/10: Apple's project work has been lackluster this term and they must try harder next time around.

Calendars

Has anyone noticed the disappearance of creating calendars in iPhoto, or did I miss something?

upgrade for ilife'08

The original post mentions that iLife'11 is $49 for '09 owners. What about those of us that didn't update to '09 and are still running '08 or earlier?

Apple's website makes it sound like the $49 box is a full version.

Looks like it's the same.

They really should kill that product.

If they want to continue working with web design software, they should purchase a high-end pro-level app similar to Dreamweaver, and make an iLife version of that.

Logic -> Garageband
Final Cut -> iMovie
Aperture -> iPhoto

??? -> iWeb

Actually, apple should straight-up buy out Adobe with their $50 bllion cash (Adobe market cap = $14.3 billion)

Buy Rapidweaver and shut up! (I'm joking you can still talk by the way)

They are assuming you already have iLife installed (which every Mac does OOTB).

Any early reviews of iMovie 11'? I don't care much for GarageBand or iWeb, but I will also be using iPhoto from time to time. Thoughts? I have my own video production business (it's just an hobby though), and I'm still using iMovie HD (06'). My real question is: is it worth the upgrade? Especially after the horrible auto-editing features that came in iMovie 08', I really want to make sure this is a good purchase. Thanks. ;)

iPhoto Zoom?

Does anyone know if the new iPhoto lets you zoom in to the photo (without having to enter "edit" mode first)? It's really annoying that on iPad/iPhone you can pinch to zoom when looking at pictures but for some reason I can't do that on my main computer? I know the screen is bigger but so is photo resolution...also when you have an odd-shaped picture like a portrait or panorama it would be nice to be able to zoom in easily. With all the talk about "Multi-touch" mice and trackpads it would be nice to see more programs support multi-touch features...especially a feature that is used so heavily in the photo programs in the iOS. Am I the only one who is annoyed by this?
