I agree with some here that the lack of an iWeb update is a bit disappointing, but also agree that the average person these days won't take the time to create and keep a website updated, not when facebook is a far easier way to have an online presence.

Looks like they added some fun features to iMovie. I still hate the lack of a normal timeline and already moved up to FCS anyway, so I'm neither here nor there. iPhoto also seems to have only minor improvements, unless I missed something.

Garageband, however...Flex Time and Groove Matching alone almost make the whole thing worth purchasing.

Has anyone else noticed that the App store appears to be mocked up to sell the Ilife apps seperately? I wouldn't mind being able to buy just Iphoto, as that is the only app I use on a regular basis.

To be honest I'm little disappointed that in two years this was all apple did. I mean they did more in year release then two years release.

I start to think that they are focusing too much on Imovie on the Iphone.

I was hoping for more for Ilife and that is perhaps the main reason I was so disappointed.

Glad to see I am not the only one thinking this isn't very impressive. I wanted to get into the 'buy something on launch day' fever, but I barely use the features of iLife as it is, so $49 to buy something I may not use...

I am still a newbie to the Mac way of doing things and underuse my MacBook Pro as it is. I may still buy it just to say I have it...we'll see.

Feels like a time portal opened up and whole bunch of folks from 2004 just popped into 2010.

iWeb whining...people don't make personal webpages anymore....everything is Facebook & Youtube. Why update an app nobody uses. If you need to do web work, there's plenty of apps out there.

iDVD whining...who burns home movie DVDs and hands them out? Much less watches them. Netflix pirates dont count! Nobody. Everything is being watched online.

iLife 11 enhancements look nice. Great job :apple:

OMG Thank you! after 4 pages of comments, SOMEONE finally gets it...

Sorry if this has already been answered. Can the iMovie update edit AVCHD files natively, or does it still have to convert to the Apple Intermediate Codec. The AIC is killing me - it's 10x the size of the original file, and the conversion takes forever.

Not eve close to FCE. I would break down and cry it they did away with FCE. What we need is an update to Final Cut and Express.

Yep.

I hope the interface of the next FCE does not look like the current freakish version on iMovie.

I have been working with Adobe PE 9. Nice to work with AVCHD natively. Always nice to explore alternatives since Apple has spent little time on software development anyway.

You guys are both way off! Obviously you two don't need or want anything a properly updated iLife product would offer, but 4 pages of comments prove there are people that do. Furthermore besides this post the people comprising those 4 pages worth of comments have opted to ignore you two!

iDVD is perfect for traveling to see friends and families. Why? Because youtube looks like ***** compared to a iDVD slideshow, not to mention that friends and families might want copies of each photo in the slideshow to put on thier own computers.

There are also plenty of websites out there that aren't "personal" websites that are built with iWeb. I bought rapid weaver because it was supposed to be so much better but haven't produced anything worth hosting.

iWeb is great for a down and dirty get a page up, update that page, put some ads up, etc... It is also the most requested/disappointing lack of update today.

Rant over...

Is there a way that I can only pay for iPhoto '11? It's the only one I'm interested in (not that the iMovie or GarageBand updates weren't impressive). I noticed that in the screenshots of the new Mac App Store, you can see iPhoto being sold individually.

All the apps are still 32-bit, not sure I understand why they can make a 64-bit Calculator and Chess app, but can't get their iLife Suite to 64-bit.

I'm guessing not until the Mac App Store is out which sucks because all I want is iPhoto '11 too.

I'm getting it.

iPhoto full screen events, new book formats, e-mail sharing and facebook integration look very useful.

iMovie improvements, too.

Squarely aimed at the "home" market.

iDVD and iWeb are there (when you look on the Apple site), but are not getting any updates. I stopped using iWeb because it's unstable, but there was a recent patch. I wonder if it works finally.

Completely agree
Pre-announcment I strongly considered the upgrade.
Post announcement I'm going to buy my dog a $49 toy

Why not buy the new iLife, install it and then let your dog play with the installation disk (Frisbee) and box (chew toy)? :D

1. No iWeb and iDVD update

2. Seems Apple is pushing wireless data with the neglect of iDVD and other applications that utilize physical media.

This seems apparent with the soon to be released OS X App Store. Download applications instead of buying physical media which use boxes, plastic, shipping fees and energy.

I'm on the fence. I like the idea of less physical media, aside from current OS DVD's that are needed for full system installation (that may change as iOS and OS X seem to be getting smaller in footprint), why not simply download an application instead of driving to the store or having it shipped, wasting the gas and carbon on shipping the items, saving plastic from the lack of shrink wrap and DVD and saving paper. Applications are becoming smaller and smaller, and soon I wouldn't doubt that OS X may be downloadable.

So I'm split, no iWeb is a big deal although I use Dreamweaver. An updated iWeb with HTML5 and PSP/PQS, etc. would have been nice. Oh well.

...oh and no 64-bit?

No iWeb = FAIL

Seems like there's a lot of disappointment out there due to the lack of love for iWeb, and I couldn't agree more.

What a shame.

Look, I know how to write CSS/HTML and have done tons of Wordpress / Drupal for clients, yet I STILL do some simple sites (including my own) in iWeb.

Why?

Because it's super-simple to update, and I can do it offline, and it has some cool (again SIMPLE) plug ins and "bells" and "whistles" that you can sprinkle in. The only issues I have with it are minor, like being forced to use a "slideshow" for portfolio-type work (as opposed to full-screen options), and having to "hack" it a bit to go full-width, etc.

It's way easier than Dreamweaver (which isn't really a valid comparison, actually), and more flexible than programs like RapidWeaver.

iWeb is a great "entry" for people just trying to "get out there" and get a site up. A toe in the water as it were.

As others have pointed out, this was a HUGE missed opportunity to include some HTML5 elements (even CSS3). Not updating iWeb is a HUGE FAIL on Apple's part.
