Looks awesome. I'm sticking with my original iPad for now, but the 2 is definitely cool. Going to again rule the industry besides like six geeks whining about some piece of junk Android device having a better camera or something stupid like that.

"2011, the year of the iPad 2" tagline..

I think it's a way for Apple to squash the rumors of a Sept. iPad update, don't you think?
It's a subtle way to say, for 2011, we have JUST the iPad 2. For iPad 3 wait till 2012. At least that's how I take it.

As for the upgrade, it was predictable. Nothing major. But I want to see what iOS 5 brings to the table. I believe the OS is what makes all the difference with all the other tablets out there.

Tablets don't have USB3 either ;)

TB would have made a good tech demo and I had hoped they would add it for that reason, but from a practical standpoint, not many people would get much use of it this generation, especially sense Apple as finally provided HDMI out.

Which I also found odd, what happened to mDP? It sure would have made the transition to TB easier...

No... real GPS means you don't need to go through a wireless phone company to use it. It's even listed "assisted GPS" for a reason as to differentiate it's usability. Assisted is handicapped... The Tom Tom dock lets the iPhone work as an un-assited, uncrippled GPS, but for the price of the dock, you can just get a Tom Tom and be done with it. I will never rely on assisted GPS again. You're arguing schematics. No one thinks it's imaginary GPS. We know it exists, but it still is crippled.

lol, You just made up stuff to make your point.

AGPS > GPS

Which is amusing. Weren't people saying that TB was going to make USB3 obsolete (which admittedly has higher market penetration than TB does ATM)? Now it isn't important enough to put in a device that could seriously spur adoption?

No, because TB addresses a need in the desktop space. Ergo, there will be devices that support it[1]. TB serves *no* useful purpose on iOS right now because neither the OS, or the hardware is capable of taking advantage of it.

What exactly do you think TB would bring to your iPad existence that the dock connector does not? Are you planning to hang raid arrays off of your iPad?

And yes, this goes for USB 3 as well!

[1] You may very well get reamed on prices, but there'll be devices.

Power and much faster syncing (assuming USB2 is the bottleneck). Maybe some cool way to transfer info from one iPad to another without the need for a computer.

I am sure there are other examples.

Almost as heavy. Still no real GPS. Same price is doing me a "favor" with all the competition offering thinner, lighter, cheaper, more open OS? I know we all hate flash, but the reality is 25% of the top 100 pages on the net still use it, so we can either have access to it or not have access, they go with #2 to try and make a statement. Comparing your year-old platform to one that hasn't even been released yet? Wow, Apple w\o Jobs is really tanking quick. This is like the 80s where Apple had everything going for it then just gave it all up to be satisfied with 10% forever. It's all just a mess, this is Android's year.

Queue the flamer responses. It's hard to see Apple fall short this year. I was really hoping they'd wow us with something to give all the new Android tablets a run for the money.

I'm not buying, more for the rest of you.

Thinner, lighter, cheaper? Did you miss something? Last time I checked their OS was doing just fine with attracting developers and creating some awesome apps? Idk what fantasy world you live in chief, but time to come back to reality.

How much you wanna bet Android doesn't touch the iPad again this year? It will more than last year now that they've released more tablets, but it's like the iPod all over again. They were the first to offer that experience, and they integrate everything so well compared to the competition. Even if the actual hardware isn't better (which it is) than the competition, the overall experience is still the best.

Agreed. One iPad updated per year is good enough.

Can’t decide if this is an iPad 1.5 or 1.4. Perhaps the name "iPad Lacking" is more fitting. I'll wait for the REAL iPad 2.

Positives
- Size
- Camera
- Speed
- More case options

Negative
- No LP/TB Support (no port or controller) makes this a relic before its even sold
- RAM ???
- No ‘world’ model; its either CDMA or GSM.
- Screen Resolution is the same
- No super-special daylight viewable screen
- Design has not soul
- GPS not on the Wi-Fi model
- No vibration motor for alerts or games

Do you think it is possible that Apple once, ONCE could do something that in ANY small way matched up to your super exacting standards and made you happy??? ...No, thought not. Do you ever think it might actually be you that's the problem here?

Are online preorders starting the 11th? or before did they say?

Trying to decide between 32 and 64 and what color case the grey or the lime.

It depends. If Apple push this year's 'Sept-Oct' iPad event back to mid November just in time for the Thanksgiving rush, you could make the case that the v3 would be the iPad for 2012. Most people will be unwrapping their shiny new toys with just days left in this year.

I also wouldn't make a habit of reading *too* much into how Apple title events, and imagery used. They aren't trying to play a fun game with us, they're trying to mislead without being obvious about it.

I'm pretty sure USB2 isn't the bottleneck right now. It takes a lot longer to sync an iPod than it does to transfer data to an external hard drive, so I don't believe the data transfer mechanism (USB2) is holding it back.

.
Wow Apple! How many SKUs do you need? Three memory sizes based on pure greed - 32gb should be $500.

ORLY? Then why is the Xoom with 32 even MORE expensive.

If 32 "should" be 500, then what other tablets are meeting that price point?

- Still way overpriced for what it does
...
It isn't sending any competitor back to the drawing board, LOL.

If it's "way overpriced" then what tablet beats or matches it at a lower price? HINT: Moto's is even MORE expensive.

I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that calling a non-LP/TB device obsolete is like calling electric cars obsolete..

IMO it's cool to include it for the reason you are saying, but you can't call a device that doesn't have it obsolete..

Power and much faster syncing (assuming USB2 is the bottleneck).

USB2 is plenty fast enough for syncing right now. USB2 hard drives are plenty fast enough for most users. Since I can't measure it, I have no way to be sure, but I never get the feeling that my iPad can receive data as fast as the port is trying to throw it. Specifically because I can transfer files from an extrernal drive to the device and still have enough capacity to comfortably do other stuff with that drive.

Maybe some cool way to transfer info from one iPad to another without the need for a computer.

That'd be wireless then.

What I am wondering is, will we be able to pre-order for delivery on launch day, the 11th? Hopefully you don't have to wait until the 11th to order off the Apple Store site. Normally, you have been able to order phones, and I thought the original iPad, so they arrive at your address on launch day. You can't order these yet off the web, or I would already have bought one. I hope they free up the store for ordering in advance.

Well, I guess I answered my own question (updated post)

Order your iPad 2 from the Apple Online Store starting March 11

bummer

Like the MBP's last week, this is an exciting, not overwhelming, update. Those of us iPad1 holdouts are ready to cash in. I'll take my chances on an iPad3 coming out in September. I just don't see it. I agree that September updates might be sexier for holiday and back-to-school purchases but honestly, these babies are still going to be hot come holiday season. My credit card's ready, but how to hide the iPad from my wife and son? We'll call it an early b-day present- by 7 weeks.

SUCKS!

I just snapped a photo of my keyboard with my iPod touch. The characters of the keyboard are unreadable on the photo. That's how bad the back camera on the iPod touch is.

And these geniuses decided to take the iPod touch cameras and slap them on the iPad, which has a 10 inch screen?! That has to be a joke! And they have no freaking LED-flash. Unless you're shooting on a beach in mid-summer, most photos and videos shot with it, will be utterly useless.

If they couldn't do cameras right, they shouldn't have done them at all. Even at the 3inch ipod-touch screen your head hurts on how bad the photo you just snapped looks.

On a 10 inch screen the photos this camera produces will make your eyes bleed.

And facetime! Give me a break. With the VGA camera, if you facetime with someone, their face will literally appear as a bunch of blobs.

This is why they only spoke of the cameras and facetime, and didn't demonstrate them. They would have seriously embarassed themselves.

They stated that the rear camera was for FaceTime. Are you really planning on taking still shots with an iPad? Talk about a non-issue.

I wonder how good FaceTime calls will look on the 10" screen with VGA cameras?

Not that bad. FaceTime on a 2007 vintage macbook using the built in crappy iSight looks perfectly fine, even when blown up to near 21".

Did the developers not think about the consequences of introducing WiFi Hotspot features in iPhone 4s standard? Why would anyone with an iPhone 4 purchase the 3G version of the iPad for more money + subscription cost?

Pertaining to the cameras... this is probably why the iPad is priced at this level. We're in 2011 and Apple still using VGA camera? Come on. I would still buy the damned thing if it was $100 more but with a real camera.
