I just hope all the whiners get out of the queue and not hog up the world wide supply. So please STICK by your words and do no buy it =)

They stated that the rear camera was for FaceTime. Are you really planning on taking still shots with an iPad? Talk about a non-issue.

I agree with you, plus the rear one is HD
let the back camera roll if you see something movie-worthy. It’s HD
I don't picture people walking through Times Square, getting the family to group together in-front of the iPad you just asked a stranger to use, for taking your picture. It's just not a properly sized photography platform, nor is it really for HD video shooting really. Seeing the soccer-mom chasing Johnny down the field with her iPad would be too funny. Chat makes sense though.

Apple just slashed the original iPad 16GB WiFi to $399! Refurbs now $349. I might just have to pick up one of these for mom..

This is what I am looking for. 350 for v1 is a good deal imo. I still dont have the loot but I would...

They are keeping separate models in order to bring the absolute lowest price to the consumers that have no need for 3G data capability.

I don't believe you understand the complaint; I meant separate models of 3G iPads. Also the 3G equipment doesn't cost $50 anymore, let alone $130. The prices are baffling. If it was a worldmode ipad-I could consider swallowing that cost.

But the problem with separate models for GSM and CMDA is it indicates that 2011 models will not have a worldmode. Which means your Verizon Iphone is a brick outside of North America.

And that means I won't be buying an iphone. If the ipad had the worldmode capabilities, I'd wait for one.

And facetime! Give me a break. With the VGA camera, if you facetime with someone, their face will literally appear as a bunch of blobs.

It's nearly the same Facetime camera as on MacBooks with much larger displays. Hear anyone with a MacBook Pro 15 complaining about not being to tell their friend from a blob?

Plus, any higher resolution that was there in the first place will be squished out by the the compression level used in the protocol.

Did the developers not think about the consequences of introducing WiFi Hotspot features in iPhone 4s standard? Why would anyone with an iPhone 4 purchase the 3G version of the iPad for more money + subscription cost?

Huh? WiFi hotspot is *not* free.

great, I'll get one of those to replace my 1st gen, as soon as the freakin iwork update comes out. Some of us do want to use these things for work. Apple got into the living room and forgot about the classroom?

You are also getting a GPS with the 3G version. Name the GPS unit you can buy for under $90 if you want to say the 3G is only worth $40.

Given that you have an iPhone 4, there is no additional cost associated with WiFi hotspot. Unless I misread and they said that this new feature will cost money.

No it doesn't. It means that the 2011 ipad will not have a world mode. The iPhone 5 will do whatever it pleases, and nothing about the iPad 2 will inform its feature set.

A small albeit nice update.
I don't really know why the hell tablets need an back camera:confused:
TB most likely would do nothing. The nand they use tends to be slow. (the fastest ipod/iwhatever that I've seen at transferring files is the ipod classic)
And I'm not really seeing anything without an intel processor with TB.
The best is the cpu and gpu boost.

It's a subscription service over and above your regular data plan.

The only question is whether you'll be free to add and drop the service as elegantly as you can for the iPad data plan with AT&T. If so, you may still have a point, but if not, then the 3G iPad still makes sense on its own merits.

seriously?

I am completely disgusted by most of the people on this thread. WOW. This was an amazing update in every way! just because apple didn't make a display higher res than any modern desktop computer or laptop. and because the iPad 2 can't move mountains. there are people complaining and whining and vomiting all over this thread!!

SUCKS!

I just snapped a photo of my keyboard with my iPod touch. The characters of the keyboard are unreadable on the photo. That's how bad the back camera on the iPod touch is.

And these geniuses decided to take the iPod touch cameras and slap them on the iPad, which has a 10 inch screen?! That has to be a joke! And they have no freaking LED-flash. Unless you're shooting on a beach in mid-summer, most photos and videos shot with it, will be utterly useless.

If they couldn't do cameras right, they shouldn't have done them at all. Even at the 3inch ipod-touch screen your head hurts on how bad the photo you just snapped looks.

On a 10 inch screen the photos this camera produces will make your eyes bleed.

And facetime! Give me a break. With the VGA camera, if you facetime with someone, their face will literally appear as a bunch of blobs.

This is why they only spoke of the cameras and facetime, and didn't demonstrate them. They would have seriously embarassed themselves.

They did demonstrate facetime and it looked great.

No retina display......... wtf.

Not going to buy this ipad. Basicly ipad 1 with 2 cameras.

wow....

FaceTime, especially for :

- families (let grandma see the kids playing)
- business conferencing (quick shot of the white board with dodgy sketches)

it's purely a convenience thing, but something that you can get used to having real fast.

Thank you for the clarification. I was under the impression that the new iOS update would provide the iPhone 4 the opportunity to become a WiFi Hotspot, but failed to realize that it's probably going to be tied into the cost of the tethering service. I am on the grandfathered unlimited & opted out of tethering because I use MyWi.

Never the less, purchasing MyWi will do the trick. There still really isn't a need to purchase the iPad 3G if you have an iP4 with MyWi.

iPad 3

If I had an iPad 1st Gen I would wait until 3rd Gen before upgrading, I just dont think its worth upgrading just yet, especially since there is a potential 3rd gen coming sept. 2011 or early 2012.
