I'm kinda surprised that the iPad mini never got the A8 processor bump. Whats with that. With the exception of touch ID, gold colour option, the mini hasn't changed.

No one.
Apple are fitting the camera for no one and no one uses it.

Happy now?

Perhaps there are many things I don't want or don't use that YOU like to use.
Does that mean that because "I" don't want them, "YOU" should not be allowed to have them?

No, of course not.

So don't be so dam selfish, and try and tell others they can't have something just because YOU don't want it.

Try thinking of others, and THEIR likes and wants. And not just yourself.

Right. Like every iPad owner that uses their "camera" with others seated in back of them. Always thinking of others. Thanks for enhancing the moment for the rest of us.

One positive though, it comes in quite useful at, say, my kids' school events. It's a great "tell" for which of my neighbors is inconsiderate enough to warrant avoiding.

"Well, he seems like a selfish douche. No need to associate with him."

Disappointing.

This is supposed to be the ultimate tablet in the market. They're losing market share in the tablets already. 16gb which "should be fine for most light users" really isn't - photos are larger with more megapixels, so are videos. Apps can run 2.5 GB and need twice that for a device only install.

4.5 years ago the original ipad offered 16gb to start. This is embarrassing. While most tech people know to buy the bigger 64gb, most users will not know this and become disappointed after half a year or so and choose not to go apple again.

While all this is argued here, they need to bring the best user experience possible. No headaches, pure turn key. If you are a light user (web, YouTube, FB), there's no single reason to buy this ipad when older ones will do the job.

The question of if it has 1gb or 2gb? I sure hope it has the 2. But this just puts me on the wait and see rather than order at launch.

No higher resolution, no real multitasking, no real upgrade in the productivity side, but it IS thinner (which nobody really wanted) and it does have a better camera (which nobody really uses) and it WILL sell 10 million the first weekend. I'm not sure about you guys but I don't get it.

Apple is always one step ahead of you. They want you to buy the 64gb version. Period. The 16gb is only there to get people to spend the extra $100.

Why would anyone buy the iPad mini 3 over the mini 2?

The mini 3 is £80 more expensive and what do you get for that apart from touch ID? They've got the same internals as well.

On a site note why would you get the Mini 1 now? For only £40 you could get the much better mini 2...

For people familiar with ios products and fans like us, I agree with you. WE KNOW but the typical user will not and question why pay the $100?

I feel this is an instance where they should have just offered 64gb as the start and scrapped the 16gb, rather than risk poor user experience. Especially as sales wane.

The upgrade I've been waiting for is finally here! Gold, 128 GB, cellular.:D

Won't be getting the new iPhone this year (waiting on 6S+) but my iPad 4's days are numbered.

I loved the mute switch and this bothers me. There is a mute shortcut (press and hold volume down for half a second), but it's not as good as the switch because pressing volume up doesn't restore the original sound level.

The only problem with this is that you have to unlock the ipad in order to do it. So if something is going off or REALLY loud, you have to unlock it (shorter now that it has touch id) and then hold down the volume button.

Someone should setup a little poll. I'm curious what the users think and if they used it much.

Never used it as a mute switch as it wasn't a system wide almighty mute, so really pointless for me. Even as an orientation switch I never used it... well not anymore. The recent Apple tablets are so good at keeping their correct orientation that it became a waste of a switch for me. BUT had it been a system wide mute I'd have like it to be kept. AND they will never dump it from the phone. Too important in meetings, weddings, concerts etc.

I know it's only 0.1mm and that's nothing really.

But REALLY Apple you should not blatantly Lie, Live to a world audience:

The new iPad Air 2 is just 6.1mm (0.24”) thick, allowing Apple to claim the 'world's thinnest tablet' title with it

Dell CEO Michael Dell and Intel CEO Brian Krzanich will preview a new tablet: the Dell Venue 8 7000 series. At 6mm thick, the new slate is purported to be the world's thinnest tablet. It's also the first device to feature Intel RealSense -- a photo technology that creates a depth map within every image it takes.

That was shown off a month ago.
And today Apple say their model is thinnest.

tut tut tut....

naughty.

Disagree. The Dell Venue 8 7000 doesn't even have a release date yet, and could potentially never be released. The Air 2 will have been on the market for at least a month (if not much longer) before the 7000 is even available.

Boring presentation, boring iPad... It didn't add anything new! It's about time some multitasking, and yet, the great new iPad air 2 is... Thinner...

The bigger a device is, thinner and lighter are actually highly useful attributes. The ipad was always too thick and heavy for comfortable one handed use. People used to complain about it and say it should be thinner and lighter. Then "apple is obsessed with thin" obsession hit macrumors, and now people are complaining that its thinner?

----------

Really irritated that the new Mini 3 has the same old A7. So the only thing that separates it from the old is touch ID. Apple, sometimes I do hate you.

While I do love to log in to macrumors just to get my daily dose of winey negativity, particularly after a product launch, sometimes the complaints are relevant. I do think that complaints about the mini 3 are entirely valid. They should have done it properly or just left it as it was - tacking on touch id and changing the color is just embarrassing.

One reason is that it seems to support the Apple SIM. If so, and if, as Apple suggests, you can select daily or weekly plans (in addition to monthly), then for certain use cases you can actually very quickly save enough money to make up the price difference. (at least in the U.S.)

Selfish parent shoulders?

… Like every iPad owner that uses their "camera" with others seated in back of them. …

Does that tall adult female with blonde curly hair have a stunted head and extraordinarily skinny arms?

Or is that a child on someone's shoulders? The shoulders of one of your neighbours, maybe?

Might that man have the camera held high so that it can take a shot without the child's head in the way?

;-)

In my opinion the best model of mini is Mini 2 with 32GB of storage
You save 50$ and get a decent storage, since 16GB is quite inadeguate nowadays.
Touch ID is cool for Apple Pay, but if I'm buying something online is not a huge inconvenience to enter my paypal account or my CC info. Apple Pay is really convenient in stores, so I can live without it and save money going for the Mini 2
