iPad mini continues to get no love from Apple. None.
That and now the 10" iPad as well.

Sure why not. When sales are slowing down, don't offer something new!

Let's face it, a 10" iPad with all the iPad Pro features just without the screen size benefit would make total sense.
Sure, give it a smaller processor maybe, but this way...

This will bite them dearly.

I don't understand why the iPad Mini 2 is the budget model they kept instead of the iPad Mini 3. They could have had TouchID across their entire iOS lineup.

It's harder to up sell from a 3 to a 4. Apple doesn't want anyone to by the mini 2, they just have it there as a budget option for those customers who want to pay the least amount possible for an iPad mini.

iPad mini 4, 16GB, Gold ordered! 4 - 6 dispatch with 16th - 18th delivery.

I'm starting to think they have too many products. Should be 1 mini, 1 Air and 1 Pro. This is plain confusing. Similar issue with the MacBook lineup.

Also with OSes. tvOS, Mac OS, Watch OS, iOS.

Keep it simple Apple.

I don't think there's too many products. The Mini 2 and Mini 3 are just older versions.

Instead, the keynote should focus on a hardware release for desktops, another for laptops, another for watch and tv, another for ipad and iphone. Then a keynote for all the OS's together.

As for iOS, tvOS, watchOS, and OS X - from what I believe all run the same core (kernel). The GUI interface is what's different - desktop, touch, watch, and tv. It improves the user interface by not having it all merged into one OS that's bloated and also provides touch (iphone, ipad, watch) when needed and non-touch (desktop, apple tv) when needed

At least the iPad mini 4 gets all of the same iOS 9 features as the Air 2 including Split View. So it apparently doesn't matter much that it's just the A8 instead of the A8X.

They should have...iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro.
And for Macbooks...MacBook (12"), MacBook Air (13"), and MacBook Pro (15")
And for phones...iPhone mini (4"), iPhone Air (4.7"), iPhone Pro (5.5")

Simple.

It's a bit slower but that might not be as big a deal as some make it. The A8 is in the iPhone 6 and the new Apple TV so it is not lame at all. It might have been used to lower power consumption as well as cost too.

So the "outdated when 1st released" Mini 2, had dropped by $30 in price and still doesn't handle ApplePay? hmmm. Saw the Mini 2 on sale for $229 @ target a few weeks ago. Looks like Apple has raised the price on what should be in the clearance bin with yesteryears products like the 8track tape player.
There's a reason the tablet market is shrinking, not much value in what Apple is offering. Hard to do name branding with out-dated, over priced tech.

I see the Mini being discontinued next year as rumored. I think they really want to focus on the bigger iPads and now the new Pro.
They have just given the Mini the update that their 'main' iPad received as a yearly update: (1) increase processor generation by one, and (2) make thinner and lighter. What other updates did their main/original iPad ever receive? Retina screen and TouchID, but iPad Mini already had those.

Even the pro got shorted? No 4K video, same crappy facetime camera?

Looks like another "wait till next year" product rollout... Only problem is that Samsung and others aren't asleep at the wheel.

You mean the iPad Mini 2 was outdated when it was released in 2013 by receiving the same processor as the iPad Air and iPhone 5s released the same year?
I was comparing to what was offered by others, the mini was always behind in specs from the day it was released. Just like the Pro/Air2/Mini4 today are behind the new iPhone. No 4K video, old front camera, etc...

The same thing with the Pro, it's not to the spec of the latest iPhone. How can they expect the tablet market to get excited about old tech? Why isn't the Pro and Mini4 the same as the new iPhone?

It wasn't behind in 2013 when it matched the specs of the iPad Air released together with it. The mini was behind when its first version was released in 2012 (by not having a retina screen). It was behind in 2014 by not getting a processor update. It is behind the iPhone and iPad Pro in terms of processor in 2015 (though not behind the iPad Air 2).

But you happened to pick the one year when it was not behind as your example.

I ordered one too, 16GB Space Grey WiFi version. Same delivery date.

I understand that some people are disappointed or don't feel the need to upgrade since there are no big changes. But that doesn't make the iPad Mini 4 a bad product. It has improved and for people like me who don't have an iPad yet it is an exciting product. I think that the Mini 4 in comparison with the Mini 2 has enough improvements to justify the price gap.

- 30% faster CPU
- 60% faster graphics
- Thinner design
- More lightweight
- Laminated display
- Antireflective coating
- Touch-ID
- AC Wifi

So those improvements made it a no-brainer for me so I pulled the trigger and ordered one right away. :)

The tablet is virtually a 7.9-inch version of the iPad Air 2

Except it comes with A8, not A8x like Air 2 does. It's an upgrade from the previous A7, but not the same...

Good job on turning the iPad into an Apple Surface Pro. Steve Jobs is turning in his grave.

Kinda sucks that they are selling the stylus and keyboard separately too. I like the power and the new screen size, but at the rate they are going, I might as well be buying a surface pro. The differentiation in products are getting smaller and smaller with apple.

I agree with this.

My concern is the color gamut that has been expressed in a few other posts. I love the mini form factor. I ordered an iPad mini 2 when it came out but when I saw the color representation compared to my iPhone and iPad 3, I returned it.

The colors just seem dulled and less vibrant. I was not able to get past this given the price point.

I really want to purchase a new Mini 4 to replace my iPad 3 but not if the color gamut is not improved and on par with the iPad Air 2.
