Glad I waited out the 2nd gen iPhone seeing how much they want to charge current 3G owners. Online order page won't work for me so I guess I'm going to have to call to order.

Wait one more year 'til it's on Verizon. You can tell Apple hates AT&T. Apple does not like the idea of someone else limiting the potential of their hardware and providing a bad customer service. They are by far the worst provider.

I've tried several times to pre-order an iPhone 3GS. I am an original iPhone 2G customer (never upgraded to 3G) and I am eligible for upgrade pricing from AT&T. When I type my info (SS#, phone #, etc.) on Apple's iPhone upgrade page, it tells me the price ($299 for 32GB version), but when I go through to the final page, it tells me the following:

Is anyone else getting this when attempting to pre-order the new iPhone?

I wish I were getting that far; after select a rate plan, there is an error message...😕

Just completed my order, the site was screwed to hell but I managed. It claims to deliver BY the 19th... we will see about that. And anyone else billed for $60.00 in tax?

Sell your Apple Stock

1. No Steven Jobs

2. Prices way too high for all the existing customers during a bad economy in the United States.

3. Lacking details about the reason for performance increase.

4. Lacking AT&T support for MMS and Tethering.

Overall the tone is not good for this release. For the short term, iPhone sales will not go up and RIMM will continue to post higher sales than the iPhone even with the new release. This will be because of the high upgrade fees to existing AT&T customers.

If you own Apple shares, I believe there will be a short term drop in stock very quickly.

I'm VERY dissapointed with this news.
i mean, seriously, the rest of apple's products had a madeover almost all the time but now they announcing an almost identical to iphone 3g?
that means we have nothing to boast about to the current iphone 3g owners 🙁
i know the specs are pretty good but somewhat there must be also a way ppl can differentiate and go 'niceeee an iphone 3G s'
but nooooooo, ppl will need to ' can i look at ur phone?' *turn it around and finally noticed the 32gb and drop dead laughing*'
ppl with iphone 3g, i'm glad to say, u had a better experience then most of the iphone 2g owners.
atleast for me, i think u guys had more exciting moments
unbelievable dissapointing news! argh!

Is That The Asteroid

Is that the Asteroid on the table of the "secret room" of the new iPhone commercial?

Great timing for me too. I have my first medical board exam on June 23rd so I'm going to order it to be delivered the day after or I'll pick it up then and I can set it up before starting rotations at the hospital on July 6th.

Re to all the complainers:
Get over yourselves. If Apple sold the thing for free you would find something to complain about.

I don't think these updates are REALLY worthy of being a new device.

The good: battery life, speed, video

The bad: Virtually USELESS compass application that will do nothing but take up a spot on your iPhone, a still-terrible camera, and AT&T.

This doesn't merit a separate device. It's lame, lame, lame. I've never been so disappointed by Apple.

Great news. I want one.... but I'll wait. My current iPhone 3g still works great. By the time I will need one, AT&T might have it's act together and the price may be lower.

did either of you go to the apple store's iPhone thing and put in your info? i also bought mine in July but my eligibility for subsidized price is December according to the site.

I called Apple and Called ATT about this situation.
I put my information in and it kept kicking me out.
Called Apple and they detoured me to ATT
On the phone with ATT and was told that the only way to get subsidized is waiting a full year from original purchase of the last iphone.
I also explained that I was told several months prior to the launch of this new iphone that if there was a new iphone that emerged that I would be eligible.
I have called almost 2 times per week to check to see if this information would/has changed and it has not until today.

So now im really pondering about just keeping my current 3G model which was just replaced with a new one April 4th and just wait until next year.

The way I see it is if they are sticking us faithful 3G owners with stipulations like this, then what will be the outcome next year?

The long of the short is that I can upgrade, after paying 18 bucks........
and cannot do this until July

16GB Black ordered. I'm upgrading from a 8GB original iPhone. I was tempted to go with the 32GB, worrying primarily about how big any turn-by-turn apps will be, but figured I'd manage with "just" twice what I have now. It'll be good enough for two years. 🙂

Its need SD 2GB card for full maps of all europe in my TomTom go so it wont be far away I guess.

randy, stop using the high school computers.

i am definitely going to go check out the Palm Pre in person... and call AT&T to see if i can haggle a subsidized price.

This is completely retarded! People that have an iPhone already are being punished. It is tell me I have to wait until 12/12/2009 to be able to get the price of $199.99 and I got my 3G on launch day. My buddy bought his weeks after launch and he can upgrade on 8/30... what is that all about? This doesn't make sense at all and I will not be buying a iPhone 3GS at launch. There is no way I am paying $200 more just to have it at launch. Screw that.

Wow, I can't believe all the complaining about the price of the upgrade. When you bought your 3G iphone last year, AT&T ponied up $400 for you to sign a new 2 year contract. That means that you agreed to keep your plan for 2 years. If you want to take advantage of the subsidy again, you have to sign a new 2 year contract. To do that, you would have to cancel your current plan, and pay whatever fees, then create a new account.

AT&T IS helping out loyal customers, but the deal is every 2 years. It is like that with any phone you buy from them, and they don't care about new stuff being released.

+1. People need to stop bitching and moaning. We already received our subsidized price. It was in the contract we signed. Someone give me just one shred of evidence why we should have believed otherwise??

I wish I were getting that far; after select a rate plan, there is an error message...😕

This is where I'm at, as well... unfortunate, really. I've tried calling Apple, but I've been on hold for close to an hour now...

I thought about calling my local AT&T store, but those guys are incompetent, and I dare not confuse them. I wouldn't be surprised if they had no idea that a new iPhone was just released.

MAJOR FAIL from AT&T today. First the MMS and Tethering and now they aren't offering the subsidized price for current 3G owners. I'm no analyst and have no data to support this, but I am guessing at least 15-25% of current 3G owners would upgrade at the subsidized price. Horrible decision on their part and I really hope the sales of the 3GS kick them in the ass because of this decision along with their other blunders that were announced today.

Maybe I will take a trip to check out the Palm Pre in person.

You can count me as one of those 15-25% (I think higher) who would upgrade at a subsidized price. I never had an issue with the speed of my phone, and I almost never use the camera. Thus the features were nice but nothing I had to have. Now if it had a front facing video for video calls, that would have been more interesting. I was willing to upgrade only for the larger storage, but not at this price.

A co-worker got a Pre this weekend and I was looking at it this afternoon. It's pretty nice.... has some bugs and the keyboard is beyond tiny, but it is cool.

PLEASE! PEOPLE!

look up "subsidize", then review your AT&T contract.

all the current 3G people who are bitching about the upgrade price of the 3GS obviously did not read their contract.

🙄

I just ordered mine... 16GB, took a couple tries, but alas I got through. Im tired of hearing all these people complain that they can't upgrade to the GS for the 3G for the cheaper pricing. YOU SIGNED A 2 YEAR contract... on any other phone do you get to upgrade for cheaper? If you got BB a year ago would they let you upgrade to a new BB today for cheaper? NO. So stop complaining.
