Too Bad Ebay Sellers

This may have been posted-there are SO MANY new posts I can't keep up....

but, good luck to all you Ebayers trying to sell a 16 GB 1G iPhone for anything more than $200-why on EARTH would anyone buy a 1G at this point in time?

Video Chat is coming in the next rev of the phone, I can almost guarantee it. They have to save something for us fanboys to keeping upgrading when the new versions come out now don't they?! Same thing/reason for the people asking about a higher megapixel camera, 32GB, product RED, etc. I'm sure all on the timetable to hook new users and to get us to upgrade.

Sadly it won't do much for the eventual global domination of Apple, though. Non Apple fans (iDiots?) will buy a Nokia.

TULSA, OK I will be waiting in July 11th can we get a city who is going to be in line forum going!!!!!!!!

Two questions:

is the $199 and $299 pricing flat out no matter what?

and

When they say being shipped july 11th they mean being released to stores that day too right?

No matter what, but you should be able to subsize this phone, as the old iPhones were not subsized.

It's a good deal to upgrade.

1. Unlock your old iPhone.
2. Sell it for about $450.
3. Buy a new subsized iPhone for $199.
4. Use the rest of the money to pay off your AT&T bills... :D

Didn't read all the posts, but someone please tell me the new iPhone FINALLY can/has:

1.) Send Photo messages
2.) View photo messages
3.) Voice activated dialing
4.) Video Camera

If these are not in 2.0, there will be a LOT of people holding out for v. 3.0.

http://www.o2.co.uk/

see "Only on O2" on flash banner...

So no SIM Free. Not that there could have been anyway, with the exclusivity contract Apple have with 02
it's always said that, no? hasn't really changed....

i don't think selling it exclusively w/ o2 precludes them from selling it sim free in the apple store?

You'll probably pay £150-200 sim free, close to free if you sign a contract?

Pretty much exactly what I expected, the core rumors of 3G, GPS and lower price all true. The lower price is awesome but on the downside I fear it may make the iPhone 3G so popular that it becomes a repeat of the Wii, hard to find for more than a year after release.

I think his point is, 32gb on a phone is just expecting too much from a phone. The high storage capacity is for ipods. Honestly, I would be surprised if you went threw over 16gb of music, videos whatever, in between dockings to you computer. Or just simply update what you want when you want it. I don't need 16gb of movies on my phone, I wouldn't have the battery to watch them and then use it as a phone for the rest of the day.

and as far as a plastic back goes, great, I drop my plastic phone all the time and nothing happens to it. I have glossy black plastic with no case, its scratched, but its still shiny black and actually hides the scratches well, my scratched aluminum ipod is dull grey with incredibly visible scratches all over it and just kinda ugly...

The max thickness point of the phone is slightly larger, but the average thickness does in fact appear to be smaller due to the tapered back.

Still, this will not fit inside existing iPhone cases. It may be lighter (0.1 ounces,) and the total VOLUME may be smaller (we won't know for sure until somebody gets their grubby hands on one and does precise measuring,) but it is "thicker".

(Not only is it thicker at the center, it is also half a millimeter taller and more than a millimeter and a half taller.)

I, for one, am getting a little tired of Apple making a big deal out of how thin the EDGES of their products are. I'd rather have a square MacBook Pro-styled MacBook Air that is one thickness throughout than one that tapers off to nothing, with the taper causing half an inch extra footprint each way just to taper.

rate plan

Requires new 2-year AT&T rate plan, sold separately.
^ from the apple website

if the rate plan is sold separately then it would mean the phone price is independent of contract correct?

Anyone know if we can reserve or purchase one online through their store in the upcoming weeks? I know they did this with the Air.

If it isn't up now, does that mean we are screwed? I don't want to wait in any lines.

Thanks.

They will let you pre-order in a couple of weeks, probably once they get a better idea that they can satisfy demand.

I am willing to bet if you pre-order online you will get yours after the Apple store has them.

No point really.

I just got off the phone with the Apple product information desk. From the mouth of the representative:

"Actually, I know for a fact there will be no pre-ordering for the iPhone."

So, looks like it's first come first serve on the 11th.

I also asked about if it would be sold online or not at all, and he said that he could not give me an official answer as he too was not given information about that yet, however he assumed that even if it is not available for the first few weeks online, that it assuredly would be made available online eventually.

I also asked about previous contracts, and if they would be transferrable. The representative said that for an official answer, I would have to contact ATT directly, however he assumes that they would be transferrable (without requiring another contract extension) based on how contracts have been transferrable with the iPhone in the past.

Independent in the sense that it doesn't matter what contract you pick. Dependent in the sense that you need some kind of 2-year contract to get the $199/$299 price.

regarding the price of the phone, didn't anyone pay attention to any of the info out there from today? Steve said it was a MAXIMUM price of 199 and 299. Meaning, at&t can very well give a rebate on it if they want, lowering the price even more. It'll be 199 and 299 for everybody no matter what state your contract is in.

So far, no.

Last year they may have over guessed the demand (due to the price...evident from the extreme drop in 1 year). I would bet that they like being able to continue to sell them and not run out though. We'll see indeed.

Oh I bet they will run out over the weekend (hence a previous person chiming in that Apple Online has said no pre-orders at this point. However I will guess they won't sell out in the first few hours.

The store I went to last year had 1000+ iphones on launch day... I'm assuming they will get the same if not more come July 11th.

Because they don't want some cheap plastic phone? Because they need a phone now and can't wait a month?

Yes, Im mad...

Sad end

This is the end of contract free iPhone..... when you buy one, you have to sign a contract..... it's Apple's and the network providers new attack plan to prevent unlocked phones from surfacing. (i'm not saying that you can't unlock it.... it's just there would be little point as you still have to pay for you phone contract)

There is further evidence of this being the case in an earlier posting. Someone has quoted text from Apple that states the 3G iPhone will be available in Apple and AT&T retail stores...

This is wrong!!!

iPhone 3G could be 10x faster... and snappier...and cooler and i still would not go near O2 even if Jobs himself offered to pay for the contract.

I will stick with my 8Gb iPhone on Orange thank you very much.

All said and done the new iphone is essentially:

iPhone 1.0 + 3G and A-GPS

Nothing groundbreaking. A most disappointing upgrade.

Apple will get there, it's just going to take a longer wait. Roll on iPhone 3.0. :)

I'm going to call ATT right now and see what's up with this.

I had better get the answers I want otherwise things could get a bit tense.
