I hope those of us who just bought the gen 1 phone will be given some sort rebate or coupon.

No Apple are cunning like that. They stopped selling the 1st gen iPhone weeks and weeks ago just so when the new one came out no one could bitch about no free rebate.

They didn't just drop this out of the blue like the price cut for the first gen back in October. Its been known for months they were going to do this at WWDC.

Kind of wierd that it isn't listed on the iPhone site or the front page, just through the store.

They usually reopen the store first, then update the home page a few minutes later. I'm sure it'll be up soon. Plus, who else can't wait to hear more about snow leopard?

I think he meant a maximum of the local equivalent of $199 USD.

And to those wondering about the plastic backing, it also causes less interference with the antenna than metal would.

Rather than relying just on the sats that standard GPS uses, it uses cell towers to speed the process of locating itself. Especially helpful in cities where tall buildings can interfere with sat reception, but there is a tower every 20 feet.
