the thing is will it be £100 (GBP) because Steve said that the 8gb will be 200USD max the world over - I sure hope it is! Having said that I will be getting the 16gb version and I can see that being more than double in the UK

amzing product just got better, the battery life is amazing, really strong

D:apple::D

$420 - $199 = $221 Sweeeet!

sold my iPhone 1st generation for $420 on ebay.

$420 - $199 = $221

so if everything's right I am getting a new phone, with 3G and GPS and a $221 check?!
I like that!!!!!

To get those savings, Apple had to cut some corners. I'm waiting to see what the screen quality is like. You may find that the old version is...

1. More scratch resistant

2. Better looking

3. Fare better screen.

All things that are not worth trading for GPS and 3G (which appears not to be that significant an improvement over Edge )

Whatever you gotta tell yourself. New products replace old products. Anyone who was surprised by this would have to be living under a rock.

The white one looks awesome! Can't wait to hear about Snow Leopard though! :D

Sim ejector tool is listed as an in the box item, thats interesting, don't remember getting one with my first gen....maybe I missed it?

I wish it had the front facing video camera or video conferencing

I'm disappointed it does not have the front facing camera for iChat. :(

Upgrade to the current camera???
32 GB version?

I expected more. This was by far the most boring keynote I've sat through.
I guess we are spoiled with the iPhone and now execpt something great everytime Steve announces new products. Stock dropped $7...

no!!!!!! Where is the "oh one more thing - new macbook pros!" :(

also any thoughts on the battery life? I dont know enough about the competitors to know whether 10 hours of 2G talk time is good or not....and are we allowed to set a phone to 2G or 3G talk time or does it do it automatically?

I have a top of the line HTC tytn2 winblows mobile phone that has to be charged every night. In fact, I'm normally looking to either plug it in at home, office or car every chance I get. 2-3 hours talk time at most, 1-2 day standby time at most.

Completely inadequate. I can't to get my new iphone soon.

No contract required?

So there's no mentioning that 2 year contract is required. Does it mean there's no need to sign a renewal with ATT? :) Go Phone iPhone?

what a wonderful day! BUT, despite the price being amazingly low, i really only want the 2.0 software for apps. anyone thinking they will buy once the ooh and aah factor dissipates?

No, that's new. Wonder if it is to help us upgrade from the current iPhone to this new 3G phone.

Copy And Paste, Wtf

With all that still no copy and paste, what gives apple. My Blackberry 7200 did copy and paste. This is a load of crap.

I have to say I'm sorely disappointed by the lack of a 32GB model. With all of the rumors pointing to two versions of the iPhone being released, I hope what we've just seen is the entry model.

I want golf software that will tell me how far I am from the green on my favorite courses. That should be doable, no?

No Dock in the box.
Addition of a SIM ejector tool weird.
These are odd to me.

Now onto my complaints:
-No Video iChat feature.

My pluses:
- 3G
- GPS
- Price points

Not going to happen. I just ordered one and so, it won't happen until I am outside of the 14 day return period.

Didn't Steve mention something about trying to keep the price at $200 everywhere? So £100, with the two year contract? The bbc news site has something similar at the bottom of their article.

It's interesting that the 'Where to buy' page on Apple UK only lists O2 and Carphone Warehouse. In other words, it looks like you can't buy it from Apple.

july 11th is my birthday, this makes perfect sense. Grab an iPhone at the apple store, swing by 7-11 and grab a free slurpee, excellent!
