I too was underwhelmed by allot of the Keynote. However, I will be upgrading. There is allot in this phone to make me want to upgrade over my iPhone 4. What made it underwhelming is more the fact that the keynote reiterated everything that had been disclosed on the rumor sites. So much for "doubling down on secrecy".

Thus, I, like I am sure many , were left hanging. In past keynote, there have been parts released etc, but either there were things shown in the new iOS that were not discussed at WWDC or we only got glimpses of certain pieces of the hardware.

For those that say nothing "New" was released and Apple is not innovating, what else could they show or do? Can't get more Hi-def then 1080p. Not really necessary on the front camera. What Apple has done again is another engineering marvel in the package its delivered. This is what most people overlook. There may be other phones that have some or all of the general specs, like dual core processor, battery life, thinness, camera resolution, vertical integration, etc. However, no other mfg has then all in one device. Not one made of the same aluminum and rugged components. That is what sets Apple apart from others. Not to mention the cohesiveness among all their products.

They really should stop with these hyped up keynotes.

Each iphone upgrade will be a little better here and a little better there.. we get it. Just put on display.. we'll buy it.

But enough with the theatrics.

It's called marketing. Love it or hate it, few companies do it better than Apple does (which, coupled with great products, is why they are so successful and profitable). Besides, most of the hype comes from the media and from users. Apple is judicious with their hype-building.

can someone do me a favor and check how much the IP5 would cost to upgrade to if you know your not eligible for any subsidies ? AT&T black 16GB ip5.

Thanks!

I am soooooooo getting an iPhone 5 but still totally shocked that there was not one single un-leaked surprise! Right down to the new EarPods!
Especially with Tim Cooks double down statement. SHEESH!

Oooooooh lets see? A more open platform (ie on the S3 you can share a pic throughout every app on the phone that will accept a photo. Not just tweet, email, SMS and OH MY GOD! Facebook), a wider screen, a slimmer design, a Micro USB connector (as you have to use a special connector anyway) ... that's just off the top of my head

Or you can just open a photo in whatever app you want. What's the big deal? I also like the idea of the new connector since you can plug it in either way. But seriously, it's a friggin cable, who cares??

I really think its a hold over from a lot of android phones needing to have the battery taken out and put back into save it from a crash.

My company does a lot of feature, data heavy work out in the field for London Underground... The S3 lasts about the same as the iphone, BUT they both run out in about 4-6 hours... Que battery changing... That's just one reason I can think of umpteen circumstances it's also come in a boon

steve j did not advertise the bumper... it was a weak excuse for the "cover up" of the "antenna gate" connectivity issue of the iPhone 4, corrected on the 4S, to some extent

it is a pity, as no phone should not be used with any "protection" from a designer's point of view

This is a subjective comment. Factually he did advertise the bumper as a cover that would not hide the iPhone design...besides I have never had problems with my antenna, so for me the bumper was awesome and the only option that allowed me to enjoy the iPhone as it was designed.

Verizon/Sprint Model Better for Overseas Roaming?

Look at the specs:

http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/

The AT&T model will have LTE only for AWS and Band 17 (US and Canada). The Sprint and Verizon models also support Bands 1, 3, and 5 used in Europe.

Also, did they ever say what kind of SIM card it uses?

Can someone please help me tackle the SV-DO possibility with this new iPhone 5 on Verizon's 3G network? Talking about Verizon only, here.

For those who do not know, by SV-DO I am referring to simultaneous voice and data while on Verizon's 3G [CDMA[] network.

The Apple event stated: "Single chip [for voice and data], single radio, dynamic antenna."

QUESTIONS!

1) What does the single radio do?

2) The chip does voice and data. Can someone explain this? Does it do it when in either LTE or 3G (or sub-3G) areas?

3) Is the following scenario possible? Scenario: while in a Verizon 3G area -- the phone will use the radio for data and the LTE chip for voice?

Let's break this down, please! Trying to understand if Apple's implementation is actually an SVDO implementation without it really even being talked about. SVDO is never talked about or advertised.

Guys please help! :)

Sometimes it suck to be first at something. Here in Sweden they choose 2600Mhz and 800Mhz for LTE. All the other choose other frequencies. This means no LTE in Sweden for iPhone 5.

for all those hating this new design, first just watch the iphone video on apple's website then decide wether it just an incremental approach ..i can tell from the video that the build quality of this thing is gonna be unmatched...samsung cant even touch it...

There was no problem with build quality (neither with samsung phones)

Do I care the tolerance has been dropped from 0.01mm to 0.001mm? No

The build quality from the first iphone was fine, I want some improvements I can actually use.

why do 3 clicks/taps for the sake of one... until you've lived with the S2/3 and done it then you won't understand... another big thing you don't realise is a biggy, that I have to confess is a pain until you live with the phone is the back button

I am shocked and appalled at Apple copying Samsung in launching a phone with a larger screen.

If you want a more open platform you shouldn't own an iOS device. Apple isn't going to change the nature of their OS.....that would be like Android closing theirs up....makes no sense and also limits choices in the marketplace.

Share a pic through every app that will accept it....I don't understand this. Give me an example?

You do realize that the iPhone 5 and GS3 screens have the same aspect ratio. If Apple made the screen wider, they'd have to also increase the height even more. What you want is a 16:9 screen bigger than 4". Fine that's your preference, although I don't get it. But let's stop saying Apple has introduced some wonky phone ratio that is awkward and never been seen (there are currently 4" 16:9 ratio phones on the market - i.e. Droid Bionic 4").

BTW, the iPhone 5 is already a mm thinner than the GS3 and only a mm away from the thinnest in the world. It ranks right up there with slimmest design to date.

Why microUSB? Its slower than lightning, isn't reversible and there is absolutely nothing the microUSB cord can do the lightning cord can't.

Anything else?

I really have no idea how some of you guys think this phone looks ugly

People who can't or don't want to upgrade from their current phone, I suppose. Humans have a need to rationalize their decisions. They like what they can have, and dislike what they can't.

Impressed: No.
Dissapointed? nope.

its a good looking phone. Decent upgrades to specs and performances, and a muc needed change to the Docking Connector.

Does it and iOS6 bring anything truly new to the field. Nope. But the phone itself is perfectly in line with the flagship offerings of other devices.

Screen size is all subjective and doesn't make it worse / better than another device.

will anyone be dissapointed in upgrading to this phone. They shouldn't be.

But nobody should upgrade thinking they're going to be getting something that nobody else has

I think the thing I'm most disappointed about is that the entire thing was leaked way in advance. I was really hoping that Apple was intentionally leaking fake parts so as to throw everyone off. Absolutely no surprises today. I was especially hoping to see a return to the curved back, since I find my iPhone 4S's sharp edges to be uncomfortable to hold.

Leaving that aside...The device itself is a let-down for me, too. Faster processor. OK, but my iPhone 4S seems plenty fast enough. Larger screen: Great, but when I'm browsing the web, I prefer to browse in portrait mode, and the fonts (when browsing non-optimized sites) seem too small. I would have preferred the screen be larger in both dimensions (though I do agree with the concept of making it 16:9). I guess LTE is the only other thing I could get mildly excited about. Again, though, my AT&T 3G (4G Lite) speeds are usually acceptable. I worry more about running past my data limit with their new plans, especially with them encouraging tethering and FaceTime usage.

Right now I've got two iPhone 4S's and an iPhone 4. The first two are just a year into their contract. The second should be upgradable. But I'm not sure if I want to bother. I'll probably mull over this for a while yet.

Same here. I was hoping to be blown away by something new that we hadn't seen. I'm not really a fan of the look of this phone, but its decent. The MAIN feature that I am happy about is that the iPhone will FINALLY have LTE. I switched to a 4G android phone a while ago because I needed faster speeds. I'm happy to be switching back to the iPhone (mainly because I've got so many apps already purchased for it).

However, I'm not happy about the new dock and the 1 inch thick adapter. Hopefully a 3rd party comes out with a sleek streamlined adapter for sound systems with built in docks.

I am 3gs owner about to updrade to a 5!

Incredible isn't it? The thing looks lovely to me. I've held an SIII and it feels cheap and plasticky. There is no comparison as far as I'm concerned. Can't wait to upgrade my 3GS to a 5.

dude were gonna feel the difference from out 3gs to the 5 its gonna be great cant wait im getting the all black ,im glad they went with aluminum instead of glass much better
