Yet another underwhelming release. It may just be that the iPhone peaked with the iPhone 4 release. I know I was excited about the iPhone 4 and bought one for me and my wife...great phone!!! Excellent and fresh design.
Fast forward to late 2011 when the rumors of a sexy sleek iPhone 5 were floating around...the mockup was oh so sexyy. I was DEFINITELY going to buy a newly designed iPhone 5...BUT much to my dismay and utter disappointment it was only a freaking iPhone 4S. To make things worse I was in Central Asia at the time and my iPhone 4 got stolen so I had to make a new purchase anyway.
I took a leap and went with the Samsung Galaxy SII and immediately I was wowed by that gorgeous deep Super AMOLED + 4.3" display. The size only helped with the videos and apps. Oh wow and flash was so cool because I could go to the desktop version of YouTube...not the crappy app.
Then I went with the Galaxy Note, and though initially thinking a 5.3" screen was ludicrous, I was amazed by the vibrance and deep colors. It got so much attention wherever I went. At first people were shocked by the size, but once they saw the screen it turned to amazement.
Then I went to the SGSIII and whoa Nelly, the software upgrades and speed of the phone left me awestruck. I can be text messaging and if I need to call that person I just put the phone to my ear and it automatically dials that number. So convenient...especially while driving (and safe too). Swipe a contact to the left it opens up messaging, swipe to the right and it calls the number. 2GB of RAM makes this thing fly, and the huge battery lasts a long time...BUT I also have the option for a spare battery for those looooooong days. Can't do that on an iPhone without some dongle attachment or a fat extended battery case.
Customizable widgets on the home screen sure does trump dumb non-interactive tiles.
I was so the Apple guy as far as mobile devices...I was the guy with the iPhone AND the iPod Touch. But they got lazy, overhyped, and let the upstart Android gain some major ground.
Deep down inside I was hoping the 6th version of the iPhone would be enough to lure me back...but I saw the leaked pics and it was going to take more than a awkwardly stretched screen and a "lightning" port to sway me. Guess I'll stay with my SGSIII and hope for a TRULY revolutionary iPhone 6. For now I'll make due with my 3rd Gen iPad and MacBook Pro. At least I know I'll never go away from Apple as far as tablets and Notebooks.
