After 3-4 hours yesterday talking to V reps multiple times to try to see if their story changes or there was at issues with upgrading a family plan. I plan on upgrading myself along with my wifes phone (on same plan), and bumping up to a better calling/data plan at the same time and the reps all day long told me no issue at all. Select upgrade phone, check mark both lines, grab the new calling plan and check out.... Now will the servers hold up...is another issue. Side note...call Apple, they said we are able to do everything pre-order wise verizon is able to do, regarding calling plan changes and or family phone upgrades and will be starting pre-sales at the same time..3am EST.

And what happens when the phone that sounds out in June is again 3G GSM only? They won't go to LTE in 2011. They also won't discontinue/replace a device four months later (iPhone 4 CDMA) - it simply wouldn't be good business in so many aspects. I bet they go on a 6 month - 6 month update cycle until an LTE iPhone 4G is announced in 2012.

People forget that iPhone 4 CDMA is not a new product... it is just another carrier getting the iPhone... it just sounds so foreign to us in the USA. Just like when the original iPhone launched in summer... in 4GB and 8GB, then 4GB was discontinued and then fall/winter time a 16GB iPhone was added. They were all still iPhone 1st gen. They still launched an iPhone in summer.

The same will apply here. iPhone 5 will hit AT&T and Verizon simultaneously... just watch.

They are not the same device - different technology. CDMA ≠ GSM. You honestly think Apple will replace a device four months after releasing it?

Does BlackBerry simultaneously release an updated Bold on Verizon/CDMA networks and AT&T/GSM networks? Nope. Never. They aren't the same.

Anxiously awaiting the first ViPhone 4 owner to b.itch and moan in a couple months that Apple & Verizon scammed them once the iPhone 5 is announced with new exclusive features. That will be hi-lar-ious.

Seriously, nice to see competition in the U.S. market but anyone who buys an iPhone 4 now -- I just don't understand. I know many are experiencing the hellstorm of a generation now but really, June will be here soon. Just be patient. You waited this long for a ViPhone. A few more months won't kill ya.

I think that would include anyone who got an iPhone from AT&T this year.

A lot of people seem to forget AT&T still sells the iPhone even with the iPhone 5 coming in a few months.

even if an iPhone 5 does launch in June
you have no proof to say that Verizon won't offer some upgrade option to people who bought the iPhone 4

Any idea if Apple will honor the Verizon New Every 2 discount for customers that are eligible? It ends up being an extra $100 off.

According to this, they should.

Current Verizon customers who are eligible for "new every two" credits will still be able to use them toward the iPhone, shaving a few more dollars off the $200 price tag. But starting Jan. 16, Verizon will no longer offer the credit on new contracts and renewals

To be clear, you mean all *online* Apple or Verizon stores, not the physical stores at 3am...you need to be clearer with your language. And by "all", you mean "both". There are 2. apple.com and verizonwireless.com

Right jackson?

I specified when I said website as *online* and store means physical store. Their physical stores will open at 3am the person told me. I know that sounds crazy but I asked her again to clarify and that's what she said.

---------------------------

So are you saying if I have a smartphone as the primary line on a family plan that I can't order? Or is this for non-smartphones only on family plans?

Also, is there a difference between ordering from Verizon vs. Apple? Is one better than the other? Particularly to have the item left in my door since I'll be working.

Family Plan upgrades on Feb 3rd can be done 3 ways:

1 - Verizonwireless.com
2 - Verizon Store Location
3 - Apple Store Location

It does not matter if you primary line is a smart phone or not.

Sorry no, you're dead wrong. No physical stores are opening at 3am tonight/tomorrow for the Feb 3 pre-order launch. Perhaps on the 10th, but not on the 3rd.

See ya.

NO NO NO!!!! YOu are wrong, again. February 3rd (tonight) is ONLY for online, no physical stores can do anything until the 10th. Get it straight. Read the Verizon FAQ, the pre-order is ONLY available online.

Only a few days left till you get to be 4 years late to the party......

At least us VZW customers will be able to use the iphone as a phone, something some of the AT&T customers couldn't do for the last 4 years...

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Will these boring ENDLESS dull Verizon iPhone stories ever stop!!!

I am getting sick and tired of people like this idiot complaining about Verizon stories. I wish moderators would delete or ban posts like this. It's frustrating to read a thread with fillers like this. I am trying to get good information on what I could do to order a Verizon iPhone.
Shut your ****ing mouth and don't read this thread if you can't stand it.

You should be able to upgrade your wife's phone online, but as the customer service rep told me, if you do not have an existing Verizon number, you will not be able to pre-order the iPhone on Feb 3rd. For those that want to add a line, they have to wait until Feb. 10th (or I guess the 9th now). Just relaying what I was told.............

Thats different than what I was told. I was told that I could order my wifes phone, then add a line to her individual plan, making it a family share plan, then select the iphone as the phone for the new line. They wouldnt port my number to Verizon until it came in the mail.

I hope you are right. I want do do the same exact thing.

The administrator user can upgrade any phones on a family share plan. He/she has access to each number and upgrade options. That's why I am ordering 4 iPhones tonight between 3:00 and 3:05 AM, pending VZW's website holding up under the traffic strain.

You don't know that yet.

FWIW, I'm betting that VZ is as vilified by iPhone users as AT&T is before spring is over. Maybe not for coverage issues, but I'll bet their customer service and/or billing behavior will find a way to rain on the parade.

So here is my dilema.

If I order tonight through Verizon and charge it to my account, I don't need to pay for the phone till the next billing cycle but I will need to be here for to sign for it (sometimes my building manager is here to sign).

If I order from Apple, I have to pay now with my CC but I can print out the fed ex release form to have the package left in my building if my building manager can't sign or hold on to it.

I think the bigger question is if Apple will have its own batch of iPhones in addition to the ones Verizon will have available for preorder?

If so, it may be safe to order one from Verizon and another from Apple, cause I need to get one for my brother one as well.

Is that from My Verizon that you select upgrade phone or do you just go into their smartphone/iphone section? Just want to know which section to go into so that I can select both lines.

Makes no sense why the plan would matter when upgrading a single phone number. Apple's site shows me upgrade eligible too so why would it matter what kind of plan I was on? I'm only upgrading my phone, not the other one on the plan. I think this is believed to be more complicated than it actually is.
