And I'll trade up to the 5 when it comes out, assuming it works for VZ, no worries. My company reimburses for all phones/phone plans, so this is the move, no doubt. You fail to understand there are many thousands of us that are in the same boat. That is - the cost of the phone is no object, either because we have money, or our companies do, or both. And yes, we've waited, limping along with old Crackberries and who knows what else, and have been salivating just to have the iPhone4's capabilities. And no, we didn't fall for the Droid and other newer Crackberry options that came along, we wanted the iPhone.

So yeah, there is pent up demand you might say, WAY more than anyone on this forum can fully comprehend (except me of course :)

Can you hear the jealousy of AT&T customers? I sure can. The VZ network will once again shine as the absolute BEST in the US, if you want to actually make a phone call that is, because your business depends on it for instance. Nifty idea I know, just ask anyone in NYC. "I feel yer pain..." - Slick Willy Clinton

Well said. Thank you.

The “Early order for current customers” promotion is misleading. I’m a 3 yr customer, and my wifi card is not eligible for an upgrade, which is fine. I want to ADD an iPhone line to my account, but that isn’t an option for “current customers.”
The promotion should be “Early order for current customers who qualify for an upgrade.”

Also, at one time I had 5 phones on my ATT family plan. For two and a half years I've complained about no reception in a densely populated part of San Francisco. ATT has done nothing to improve their network except advertise how good they are (not), and to give me an M-cell to appease me. I'm down to 3 phones and expiring contracts.

I can't wait to be able to TALK on my phone.

If you have an unused Verizon phone, you can sign up for a new line using existing hardware, leaving you eligible for your upgrade credit, then upgrade the hardware tonight.

But you better call VWZ customer service quick... and hope you have an old CDMA phone in the closet like I did. :)

Just confirmed, you will not be able to charge the cost of the verizon iphone to your verizon account.

You have to use a credit card to purchase it, so no benefit to ordering it from verizon or apple besides apple allowing shipping release forms.

Personally thinking of ordering my phone from Apple, cause I think they are on the ball with their shipments (and have received products from them earlier than supposed to) and ordering my brothers from verizon.

so at 2:30 AM, I will keep refreshing apple.com and verizonwireless.com, and go to whatever one is quicker?

Anxiously awaiting the first ViPhone 4 owner to b.itch and moan in a couple months that Apple & Verizon scammed them once the iPhone 5 is announced with new exclusive features. That will be hi-lar-ious.

Seriously, nice to see competition in the U.S. market but anyone who buys an iPhone 4 now -- I just don't understand. I know many are experiencing the hellstorm of a generation now but really, June will be here soon. Just be patient. You waited this long for a ViPhone. A few more months won't kill ya.

I'm eligible for an upgrade now for one line, and my wife (who also wants one) and my other lines will be eligible in September. If I pay Verizon's one year upgrade price, using their new upgrade rules, my main line will be eligible for upgrade in December. So, if a new one is announced in June/July for Verizon, I'll upgrade again in September, and sell the existing one I just bought. I had AT&T but switched away due to their horrible service, so I've missed my iPhone for a few years. That's why I'm not waiting. That and I get the unlimited data.

Not sure if I should buy through the Apple site or Verizon's. I feel like I may trust the Apple site more in terms of reliability. Also, does anyone think i'll get the phone quicker through the Apple or Verizon site? What's everyone's thoughts/plans?

Makes no sense why the plan would matter when upgrading a single phone number. Apple's site shows me upgrade eligible too so why would it matter what kind of plan I was on? I'm only upgrading my phone, not the other one on the plan. I think this is believed to be more complicated than it actually is.

It doesn't matter, that info above is totally erroneous, I guess the fault of the rep spoken to.

You can order on any type of plan. To say otherwise is ridiculous.

And the official business customer email from VZW stated you CAN add a line. It won't be any different for non-business accounts.

Does preordering on the 9th start at 3am as well?

...has it been decided if you could start a new family plan over the apple site? I am switching from Sprint.

When apple accidentally had the ordering available on their site a couple weeks ago, it looked like you could

Only a few days left till you get to be 4 years late to the party......

Nice. Completely unnecessarily.

Get used to it. This is MR where the Apple minions love to hurl insults. They are afraid of just about everything. Mention the word Android, and they freak out.

Conversely for the adults in the group, it's pretty amusing.

Just wait until some juvenile posts one of those absurd graphics, so he can get his jollies. There's a million laughs here, it's an Apple Forum :)

All they care about is shiny Toys... nothing serious.

FYI - I just called Apple to understand if I would be able to use my $100 New Every Two credit that Verizon offers if I order from Apple's website. They said that it isn't possible with an online order through Apple.com, but they told me to call their customer service line when iPhone sales become active (3am EST) and they would put my order through that way since the website isn't equipped that handle NE2. They have set up a team to manual orders like this. So, I will try Verizon's site first and if that doesn't work, I'm going to call Apple. I don't want to give up that extra $100 if at all possible.

I'm trying to understand that if this is an online only deal, why people are calling Apple or Verizon tonight...? It sounds like you can ONLY order online...am I wrong?

In an email i just received from Verizon concerning iPhone 4 preorders:

'There's never been a better time for customers to upgrade a phone or add a line.'

Does this mean we in fact WILL be able to add a line to an existing vzw account and pre-order iPhone?

Anyone want to call to verify?

I'm sure glad I'm happy with my iPhone 4 from AT&T. I'd hate to go through the wait and all that again. Although I must say I got mine the day before the official release. AT&T has always given me terrific service. That's why I will stay with them. Plus I have unlimited data, priceless.

Well, let me explain since empathy is beyond you. I have a verizon piece of junk that's on its last legs. It barely functions and my upgrade is well overdue. If I replace it with anything remotely useful, I'm stuck in a two year contract again and won't be able to get an iphone for two more miserable years. So I can't and won't wait until summer for a new iphone 5 (that may or may not even come to verizon) just because the iphone that's currently out is a whole 6 months old. Does that make it not a good phone? By your calculations, exactly how many days after a new phone is released is it already considered a product for suckers? People like myself just want a good phone -- sorry if we're not hip enough for you.
