I wish they'd put the article in front and refer to it as the iPhone. Just referring to it as "iPhone" reminds me of Happy Fun Ball.

"Warning: Do not taunt iPhone." :p

It's pretty much standard procedure when talking about a trademarked product name to use it like a proper noun.

Remember when the original iPod Shuffle came out, and its size was compared to a pack of chewing gum, the disclaimer at the bottom of its web page read:

"Warning: Do not eat iPod Shuffle."

no it looks like the lowest family plan is really $109.99 as the $80 is only for the first line....isn't it usually for the first 2 lines?

At&t's normal family plan with two lines @700 min is 69.99/mo. Add unlimited data for both phones @40/mo and you get 109.99. Seems like it's just different way of marketing the same thing, except here the data is required.

I'd like a second phone on my family plan that's not an iPhone and I don't want data on the second line. I wonder whether that's possible.

With prices like these....

Anyone happen to know how much Verizon charges for early termination? At first I thought I could resist since I thought it would cost an arm and a leg. Now that I know it'll only cost an arm I can't hold back.

I currently have an iPod and I do not waste my money downloading songs from iTunes. I get free music from the web like most of us.

Are you gonna be able to download songs directly from your computer, or will they have any restrictions such as songs exclusiverly downloaded from iTunes?

Called in and talked to an AT&T Rep this morning ...

.. If you already have a Blackberry, Treo, Nokia or any other PDA that AT&T offers and you are paying for the Blackberry Connect or PDAConnect plan then you will simply SAVE money!!!

My query here is that I have a PC connect data plan (3g data card). So could it still work the same way (doubtful as that data plan is 60$ or so) and if it doesn't can I just keep my current data plan which I need for my data card and add the iphone to it?

This is yet another example of how Canadian cell phone users get screwed. We would never, EVER get rate plans as good at this. Not by a longshot. Every aspect of this plan makes me jealous. I would pay rates like this in a heartbeat for what it gets.

I'm sure you'll be able to load your stolen music on the iPhone just like you could any other iPod.

Activation through iTunes?!?? Oh no! iTunes is becoming bloatware! Apple has forgotten the iPod! This is the end of the music player as we know it!!!!!!11!1

(Just had to balance this thread. It was a little too positive.)

;)

And yes, I can afford an iPhone after my wedding is paid for, for all those who may have been curious.

This is great. The 1400-minute family plan ($100) is only $11 more than with the regular non-iPhone AT&T plan ($89.99), but for that eleven bucks price difference, you get unlimited data ($20-40 value) and 200 text (3-5$ value). That's amazing!

Now here is the question for all of you who whan to get family plan/2 lines/1 iPhone and one "normal phone":

Apples iPhone plan 1400 min. for $100 + additional line for $9.99 (?) = $110

ATT family talk plan 1400 min $90 + addtl. iPhone plan $20 + addtl line 10=120 (or ATT $90 + $30 for addtl iphone = 120)

You plan on stealing the iPhone too?

That would make it more tolerable. If it wasn't for the fact that its Crapular.

$60 for 450 minutes? Ummm that is asinine. Sure this is great if all you are doing is data. For the people who actually talk on their phones....these plans are teh suck.

PS- They also just cut off everyone who wants to get the iPhone and not spend a butt load on a plan. Again the iPhone is sitting in a very small market segment. I expect sales to go through the roof initially, and then tank as mom and dad tell little johnny that he can't have an iPhone for x-mas because of the prices.

Wrong on all counts.
-No, it's $40/month for 450 minutes. It's $60 for 450 min. and unlimited data
-You don't have to spend "a butt load." You can still get any of the regular voice only plans.
-It's not "Crapular." Crapular is the new CrapT&T. :D

Timpdude,

Thanks for this info. I have the exact scenario to the letter including a Treo activated in April of 2006. I didn't think I was entitled to an upgrade so soon though. I thought they were on a 2 year upgrade cycle.

Thanks for doing the leg work & sharing!

Called in and talked to an AT&T Rep this morning after the posts went up for rate plans because I was concerned about being able to upgrade my phone.

This information may be good for a lot of you out there. As I know I was quite concerned about it when I saw the pricing because typically if it appears to good to be true it usually is, but in this case it isn't.

----
The AT&T Rep that I talked to had already obviously been trained well on the plans for the iPhone (impressive enough) as she had ALL the answers and didn't have to look anything up. She also thanked me for knowing enough about everything to not A) Sound like an idiot and B) annoy her with questions as to why we can't get 200 bucks off the iPhone. :)

Ok.. So here is my issue.

My wife and I share a Family Plan with My Parents basically as a way to save my parents money on a cell phone bill (they don't use much and see no reason to pay 100 bucks a month for a phone that they use 100 minutes a month on) so the 4 of us have 1 single family plan and I pay the full bill with my parents simply paying the 9.99 a line for their 2 lines. I pay $59.99 for my main line (Palm Treo), and then 9.99 for each of the other 3 lines. I pay $39.99 for the unlimited PDA Connect Data plan for my Treo and no one else has any data (other than the typical pay for play whenever my wife downloads ringtones, etc...).

So.. It appeared that I would be able to keep my Family plan $59.99, drop the $39.99 PDA Connect Plan and ADD the $20.00 iPhone plan. Which would save me $20 bucks a month. This is where it looked to good to be true. Why in the world would i actually save money to upgrade?!?!?

I have had my Treo since April 2006 and am available for Upgrade at this time. I figured that I would have to pay an enormous disconnect fee to get rid of my PDAConnect since I had not had it for 2 years, but... According to the AT&T rep she said that all would be good. I wasn't disconnecting my service I was simply changing services for which I would be charged the 36 dollar activation fee and buy the phone (obviously). Then while in the store I would activate the phone plan as an 'existing' customer simply adding $20.00 to my $59.99 plan and then dropping my PDAConnect plan thus saving $20 bucks a month in data while upgrading phones!!!!!!!

With all of the information going around out there about this and that I figured it would be good to have some real information out there from the source... So.. If you already have a Blackberry, Treo, Nokia or any other PDA that AT&T offers and you are paying for the Blackberry Connect or PDAConnect plan then you will simply SAVE money!!!

Who saves money these days?!?!?!?

LOVE IT!

The video shows it in the iTunes activation. You enter the number you want to transfer and it's done in 20 minutes to a few hours. What could be easier?

Yeah, this is GREAT news. Those lines for iPhones should fly!

I wonder how much Rogers is gonna screw us Canadian's with the data plans... we've always had terrible data packages. For example its $60cdn/month for 0.5mb of data & 150 weekday mins, unlimited evening/weekends on a blackberry... yes, HALF a meg.

I really hope we get the same features as the $49 plan for like $60-70cdn a month...

I want official word on what's going to happen with current customers who are not upgrade eligible.

I spoke with an AT&T rep this morning, I was told they will make a new 2yr agreement from the day the iPhone is activated. :) You just get no "upgrade discount" is all.

$175.

So are current AT&T customers going to be able to activate the iPhone?

I'm asking because it would be nice to get a discounted/free regular phone with new AT&T activation now, and then just switch to the iPhone on Friday.

Hey, don't include me in your criminal fantasies!

Priceless :D

Are you going 2 tell you have never downloaded a song from Napster, eMule, Limewire, etc?

If you say you haven't, praise the Lord! We have found the next Jesus

You plan on stealing the iPhone too?

Enough of your daftness.

Stealing and Copyright Infringement are different, no matter how much you try to conflate them.

Besides, the poster may live in Canada, where it is (or at least was when I lived there not long ago) legal to download music from the internet as much as you like.

When I lived in Canada, I downloaded gigabytes and gigabytes of free music, and it was all legal because the stupid record labels had agitated for compulsory charges on blank media.
