Jesus....this is a deal??? What do you guys do for money? How much time do you spend on the phone??

I'm just fine with my T-mobile prepaid phone...$100 every 6 months or so. iPhone is iHype and iMoney. And of course the 'i' is question in Jobs. And I like Apple and Jobs. But enough is enough! Just give my my xMac, Steve.

Jeez...how much time do you spend on your computer? I can get an emachine for 300 bucks.

Whilst activating at home sounds good, for the people who can not get credit? can you take the iPhone back?

Because of how activation works, I'm guessing it will be near impossible for anyone to use an unlocked phone. Right?

Doesn't affect me. I plan on being in line Friday!

Wow, these rate plan prices are a good 20-40% lower than many (think CNBC) had predicted. I'm shocked, and in a very good way. I must admit that I wasn't planning on getting an iPhone for quite some time, but this news has definitely changed my mind...

FWIW, the T-Mobile minute plan you seemed to have quoted ($39.99 for 1500 minutes) includes NO FREE NIGHTS and NO FREE WEEKENDS.

Add $20 for free nights and weekends on that plan, bringing T-Mobiles cost to $85.00/month.

OK, I believe you can get 1,000 minutes for the same price with free N&W, still twice as many minutes as AT&T

Ooo, $80 for a family plan. That's doable.

I guess this begs the question...my wife won't be getting an iPhone. Will she still get unlimited data on her phone as part of the family plan?

no it looks like the lowest family plan is really $109.99 as the $80 is only for the first line....isn't it usually for the first 2 lines?

Ok guys, so does this mean I don't have to activate it ? And can still use all the other stuff (without paying money)?

DARN: I just answered my own question I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET THE IPHONE!!!

Hey Arn,
The family plans have been announced. They are on the Apple rates page just under a different tab.

However, there is a huge big 'ol asterisk next to them saying that they include one line. Do they mean one iPhone line and another non-iphone line? According to the fine print, an additional iPhone line is $29.99 under the family plan.

Bottom line, prices given, details shady.

The unlimited data thing as standard is a smart move. It means everybody can constantly have their email on.

Activation

Activation with iTunes is an amazing development. One seriously big hassle removed. Thanks Apple!

wonderful! i basically pay the same i pay now .. i pay $39.99 for voice and $19.99 for media max 200 with unlimited data and 200 texts.

My wife and both share a family plan - we both are planning on getting iPhones on Friday - doesn't it sound like we will have to split into two separate plans vs. the family plan?

Yeah, I have some questions about this, as well. According to this apple page your plan will cost $80 bucks plus another 29.99 for each additional iPhone.

But on the "activation and sync" video just posted on Apple's site, it doesn't look like that's an option when walking through the iTunes activation: Existing customers choose to replace their current phone or add a new line. It also says existing customers simply add the iPhone data package for $20 bucks.

Nowhere in the video does it explain how an existing customer, with family plan, whose contract has expired, could choose a new phone plan with iPhone.

And what about a family plan where only one phone is an iPhone?

Look guys. Don't believe the "EDGE IS SOOOO SLOOOWWWW" ******** folks keep spewing.

Heck yeah! Chi-town tops the list in DL speed. This just made my week even better. Slow on the UL speed though. :(

Is no body noticing my post about the 80GB iPhone, and the fact that the iPod only works with Activation with AT&T?

I thought that would be a big deal.

yes it is interesting that it seems that you can't even use the ipod features without the activation. but i guess that everyone is thinking the at&t costs are so reasonable that you'd be crazy not to want to sign up.

anyway, i'm sure someone will figure out a way to activate it without joining at&t.

At first I thought "damn that's expensive" but the more I think of it, it's not really unaffordable, but it is a bit more expensive compared to what I pay.

For example, I pay $50 per month for 600 minutes + unlimited evenings and weekends and unlimited data (using t-mobile t-zones). I have a Nokia 6680 a fully featured web browser (Opera) and a decent POP mail client (the built in Nokia client with word, excel, and jpeg attachment support), an IM program that does MSN AIM and yahoo, google maps, and some basic office apps. Doesn't that sound a lot like the iPhone? I even have a Mac theme on my phone! :) I know the interface most likely sucks compared to the iPhone, its a lot slower, older etc.

The iPhone in comparison costs $59/month for less minutes and no unlimited evenings or weekends (although it does have unlimited calls to other AT&T users which is great if you know people on AT&T and useless if not). It also has rollover which mine does not. But the phone itself is about 100 times cooler so I guess that extra $9 is worth it for that.

Too bad the phone itself is too expensive for me to even think about getting one... yet.

Bleh...

I would buy one in a second if they had a decent SDK. Not that would build anything myself but I know others would.

The thing has WiFi for christ's sake....somebody could make an app that uses skype or some other VOIP while you're at home or anywhere with wireless and not have to use up your provider minutes.

The only reason they're not releasing an SDK is because they're in bed with cingular and everything and Cingular needs to get $2 for a 15 second ringtone or $5 for a ****** tetris clone.

Can I get an iPhone on T-Mobile?

So because AT&T has the iPhone, it makes it OK for them to offer you half of what their competition does for the same price?

Think outside the box here for a minute. You're getting screwed any way you look at it. So what if you get a fancy phone. It's the principle of the thing. AT&T has you bent over and you're willingly accepting it just so you get to use the latest overpriced POS phone.

I WILL -NOT- BUY AN iPHONE

I love the features but the two year contract and only 200 SMS messages has turned me off. WHY a contract?? It's not like AT&T is subsidising the iPhone cost.

What if i want one iPhone and other standard phones on a family plan?

SCREW APPLE! and AT&T !!!!!!

these are nice plan options... when the iPhone comes to canada, though, i highly doubt we'll have these cheap choices... cell phones in canada = unbelievably expensive compared to the usa
