Wow the 450 will work for me.
It's actually cheaper then what I currently have now..on Cingular.

I currently pay the same amount but get no text msging or data/email included..just 600 mins a month.

I just thought of something... is it really just $59, or is there tax on top of that? I pay $50 per month including taxes and my data plan, so maybe my deal is a bit better than I thought...

The crowd roars back...

Ok guys, so does this mean I don't have to activate it ? And can still use all the other stuff (without paying money)?

No.

The iPod won't even work without activation:

Minimum new 2-year wireless service plan and activation fee required to activate iPhone features, including iPod; plans are subject to AT&T credit approval.

About the same for me, overall...

I have an old AT&T plan that costs me about $60, but has free roaming. Data, but a VERY limited data volume.

...and when I show people my phone, they're astounded by how old it is and that it still works...

Heck, I have to buy a new desktop just to make the iPhone work (my current machine won't run anything newer than 10.2.8, and I can't run the version of iTunes needed).

I REALLY wish they'd come out with those new iMacs that were in the rumor pool. I may have to settle for a current-model 20 incher.

Question: It says that you can choose one of AT&T's current service plans, Will that include visual voice mail? If Id get say a cheaper plan they offer and not an "iPhone special" will visual voice mail work on my phone or will I just get my voicemail like most phones?

Visual voice mail is a phone feature, not an ATT plan feature (or so it seems). It looks like it's just a data plan that allows you to use a bunch of features . . .

No.

It's still a good deal though. Considering unlimited data. Seriously.

Looks like the Mozilla CEO was right about Apple's browser strategy. You can sync bookmarks to the iPhone from Safari or IE but not from Firefox.

Unlimited data? I like the sound of that. haven't really looked into UK contract prices, but it's something I would have to get with an iPhone and all that internet business.

How is AT&T's Boston coverage?

Was planning on waiting for v2, but these rate plans have me reconsidering.

I'd be switching carriers for this, any Bostonians out there have AT&T, and if so, how do you like their service?

Thanks!

So because AT&T has the iPhone, it makes it OK for them to offer you half of what their competition does for the same price?

Think outside the box here for a minute. You're getting screwed any way you look at it. So what if you get a fancy phone. It's the principle of the thing. AT&T has you bent over and you're willingly accepting it just so you get to use the latest overpriced POS phone.

HEY YG17!!! I CANT WAIT TO SEE YOU IN LINE ON FRIDAY! SAVE ME A SPOT!

Yeah, I have some questions about this, as well. According to this apple page your plan will cost $80 bucks plus another 29.99 for each additional iPhone.

But on the "activation and sync" video just posted on Apple's site, it doesn't look like that's an option when walking through the iTunes activation: Existing customers choose to replace their current phone or add a new line. It also says existing customers simply add the iPhone data package for $20 bucks.

Nowhere in the video does it explain how an existing customer, with family plan, whose contract has expired, could choose a new phone plan with iPhone.

And what about a family plan where only one phone is an iPhone?

Hey i too have a family plan, and i took the iphone website to mean that if you were the sole person in the household getting an iPhone, you should just get a regular family plan, and pay the 20-40 a month, depending on what you want. I am a kid on my pop's family plan, and thats exactly what i'm going to do. Our plan expires in july, so i will tell him to get the regular family plan, then i will give him the addition media MAX money that is required for existing customers w/iphone. You're line will cost 29.99, and all the other lines will continue to be 9.99 each. So: Choose a regular plan, add as many lines as needed, then take the iphone line and pay the 20 bucks extra for the media MAX package. It's all on the iPhone website.

I love the features but the two year contract and only 200 SMS messages has turned me off. WHY a contract?? It's not like AT&T is subsidising the iPhone cost.

What if i want one iPhone and other standard phones on a family plan?

SCREW APPLE! and AT&T !!!!!!

For an extra $10 a month you can get 1,5000 texts.

Yes. And what if you don't want/need the second line to be an iPhone?

I've already talked to a customer rep at AT&T. My wife has a ROKR and I have an LG (until friday). She has one number for her phone, I have another. I get the iPhone, transfer my number to it and I'm done. Nothing else changes. It's no different than if she or I decided to buy a different phone.

i have a question.

i am on family plan with my parents for verizon. so if i want use the same number for the new iphone, i have to cancel my line with my parents family plan? which that will cost a cancellation fee right?

They won't be charging you a cancellation fee for going from 3 lines to 2, IF they want to keep your parent's 2 lines on the account. If they try to charge you a cancellation fee for dropping 1 of the 3 lines, then take all three lines with you to ATT and don't look back.

Not sure if it's posted (can't keep up with the reading of new posts!)

I don't think it will be 80 Gigs,

here's another shot from the vid just over halfway though when he's syncing where it does say 7.27 gigs.

No hope!

Does anyone else think this is really expensive? I have a phone with Alltel and I get 700 minutes, unlimited long distance, unlimited nights and weekends, and 300 SMS messages for $39.99 a month.

Just watched the iPhone sync video, anyone else notice that 3/4's of the way through the video, after the iPhone is synced, "John's iPhone" on the bottom storage bar in iTunes has, "Capacity 74.40GB - Audio 25.64GB - Video 13.09GB - Other 12.55GB - Free Space 23.12GB"?!?!?!

It would appear that either the iPhone tutorial has been doctored, or "John's iPhone" is an 80GB iPhone.

Hmmm. See for yourself, watch the video, check the bottom storage bar after he's done with the sync, it's clear as daylight.

Why do you insist on trolling every iPhone thread with this worthless drivel? The OVERWHELMING majority of the people here think these plans are awesome. Why don't you go write about how stupid we all are on your blog instead of lowering yourself to posting here with us uninformed terrible excuse for consumers?

each line is a contract, so yes, they will (and should) charge him a cancellation fee. If he takes all 3 lines to Stinkgular, they'll charge him 3 cancellation fees.
