The nano is made of a plastic/poly material. They can introduce color versions for Nano 2.

Black and White give a nice intro option selection. Nano 2, many color versions -- more than the mini.

Color would be sweet. iPods are a little boring to me w/o color. A bunch of kids I know really wanted an iPod mini in a color, and were really bummed when I told the nano news. If anyone watches "70's House," on MTV (stupid show, I was just really bored) the iPod they gave as a final prize on the last episode was sweet. I want it!

Beautiful design, the black is remarkable - does this mean that black will be returning for 'books?

Ugh, hope not. I've always loved Apple in white and color. Black is an ugly, bad Dell PC color. Sorry to those who love the black nano but, WHITE ROCKS!
:p

anyone order online and get a shipping confirmation yet? my status says shipment in process. I hope it shipped today so I will have it tomorrow for my weekend trip to the beach.

So... they killed off the selling-like-hotcakes Mini (which gave you 2x or 1.5x the storage and 4 hours more battery life--IIRC--at the same price points) but they're keeping the U2 "Special" Edition around? Mm-hmm.

At least with the price/storage decrease, they can later "improve" the line back to what it used to be.

I know, wtf is up? The U2 thing was cool for about the first year, but it's time to go bye-bye. I think this could hurt Apple personally, but I gotta have faith in the Steve!

Also, excuse my ignorance, but will the nano work with a BOSE sound dock? I just bought one and.... I don't really want a new iPod if I can't use it with the dock. Not worth it to me...

jeeez lets keep those raceist comments down to a min :p jk jk
I always liked the white and silver ipods compared to the minis, but the black nanos look sweet they just arent my style. Shinny black is not dell color thats like boring plastic black that always looks dirty and old.

does it really piss everyone else off that that cingular company, their demo on the website has it plugging into a rank PC?

Ick. PC's make me shudder. That is so wrong.

Why do people keep saying this? Writing to flash RAM is much much slower than both USB and Firewire speeds so it makes no difference at all what the interface to these things are.

True, but for the record, the nano is very quick for flash memory. Know of any free benchmarking software I could use to test it? It definitely seems faster than any flash drive that I have ever used.

In fact, it is fast enought that it wouldn't bother me at all to wipe it clean if I had to transfer a large file and didn't happen to have a flash drive on me, and just fill it up again when I got home.

Yeah the nano will work just fine, it'll just be off centre.

iLounge I think, maybe Macworld has a short story on the nano and accessories and they have a picture of one in the Sound Dock - it looks awesome, totally dwarfed by the dock....

couple of thoughts after reading about four pages...

someone was complaining that the headphone plug being on the bottom will make it difficult to hold in his pocket. HUH? if anything, being on the bottom will be even better to hold in the pocket, as the control is now easier to access through the material (it's now "right side up")

people act as though apple's decision to cut the mini was a personal affront...take it easy, you're not that important. it's just a business decision...some of apple's business decisions will be beneficial to you, some won't. you'll like some of their products, some you won't like. just buy the stuff you like.

and why did i waste two minutes of my time reading those inane road safety posts. stay on topic, please.

sorry if this is off topic. i do like the nano and hope to see one (and buy one?) tomorrow.

I'm going to try and sneak out of the office (home) and grab one at the Annapolis store tomorrow.

I totally don't need it.

I have to have it.

I am getting an 2GB iPod nano. Although, I am not sure of the color. I am also somewhat surprised by the abrupted cancellation of the super-cool iPod mini. Anyway, I think the nano is cooler so no big loss to me that is.

I own a U2 and love it, and I know the space is small...but the essence of the iPod being small, light, and having all the features...I just want it...especially the black. I am going to buy it for when I go out for short periods and use my U2 for everyday life. :D

^

I said it before & I'll say it again. I remember when the 3G iPods came out and the box had that "darkened" iPod picture. Everybody was raving about how cool black would be...we're finally there :)

(U2 iPod doesn't count IMHO, its red clickwheel and U2'age threw me off)

The Pismo/WallStreets were quite nice and much nicer looking than any Dell has ever been.

Good luck. I hope they don't catch you grabbing one because they might make you pay for it!

iPod Nano Dissected!

If anyone wants to see what the guts of an iPod nano looks like, check this out. Leave it to those great Japanese to dissect a new product before most people can even get their hands on one. ;)

Nice pic. Matches the mouse quite nicely. Wow. It's about as thin as the adaptor. Kudos Apple.
