USB 1.1. Hmmm. Maybe it's just a good excuse to upgrade the laptop next time I'm near an Apple store. I was kind of hoping to wait for whenever the next version arrives. 4GB with USB 1.1 = Pain in the Arse (especially with the Firewire port sitting there feeling lonely.)

No it's TNT this time.

was lynx who delivered my baby, was told by apple cust services when i asked who courier would be that they now use lynx for any product that is already in the uk warehouse - TNT is still used for BTO computers and stuff comming over from the eindhoven warehouse.

I guess it's lynx then.

Now I'm confused

Well I guess it depends where it shipped from but the origin on mine is CVT and the TNT tracker lists the starting point as Nuneaton so I'm guessing CVT is short for Coventry.

I tracked it on the TNT webpage from their hub, right to my door.

Definitely TNT.

I'm trying to track mine now, but i think the tracking is down for maintenance. Though Lynx still doesn't find anything!!

nomad01, mine shipped on friday evening, so, as a guess when do you think I'll get it ~ I need to wake my brother up so someone can receive it. Though I'm home Tuesday morning. :D

Mine left Nuneaton at 17:19 on Thursday evening and was with me Friday afternoon so you could get it anytime Monday. The TNT site should give you a good indication when it's back up.

If not, maybe check first thing tomorrow?

Steve

if you call apple cust services tomorrow when they open up again, they will be able to tell you which courier has been used for your order. must admit I was suprised to hear mine was with lynx - everything else has always been TNT (or one really unlucky time for a ipod mini xmas gift for my sister - irish express from warrington - those guys could not find their own Ass with both hands and a map :-( = mad dash round yorkshire for me last december trying to find a pink mini even though had ordered from apple with a month and a half of time to spare!!!!!)

:D :D :D

edit: Just checked, it is TNT:

09 Sep 2005 20:29 Northampton Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
09 Sep 2005 20:24 Nuneaton Shipped From Originating Depot
09 Sep 2005 18:41 Nuneaton Consignment Received At Transit Point

So I guess monday wouldn't be too unreasonable.

Just saw the Nano in person today in Yokohama.

Very very nice. Cool. So small and easy to use.

The 4GB models (black and white) were sold out at every story we visited. In some cases, the 2GB ones as well.

Looks like Apple has a very popular product...again.

While both the Nano and Shuffle are flash based, now that I 've seen a Nano in person I see two different markets for both.

Just sent my daughter to college with a 14" iBook and took advantage of the "free" iPod Mini. Boy, I thought the Mini was cool. Never seriously thought about an iPod before but now......I WANT A NANO! Did I mention I want it NOW! However, I can't make up my mind on white (traditional Apple color) or black (bad, really bad). Helllllllllp!

white will be gone soon

White's had its 15 minutes of fame....

Apple will be moving to black or charcoal soon - it's an important part of the replacement psychology. You'll get people upgrading just because their old model is "out of fashion".

The new Intel 'books will be dark (dark plastic for the iBooks, black anodized aluminum for the P'Books). Intel iMacs dark plastic, Intel PowerMacs a new form factor (expect a mini-tower closer in size to a typical PC - the G5 case is huge), but dark metal.

The sales figures for the black Nano vs. the white Nano will convince Apple that a lot of people are tired of bright white plastic.

Well, by comparison, heres how mine went:

09 Sep 2005 12:18 Cannock Delivered
09 Sep 2005 09:06 Cannock Out For Delivery
09 Sep 2005 06:48 Cannock Import Received
09 Sep 2005 06:12 Cannock Import Received
08 Sep 2005 20:28 Nuneaton Shipped From Originating Depot
08 Sep 2005 19:54 Northampton Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
08 Sep 2005 17:19 Nuneaton Consignment Received At Transit Point

So, I guess it depends what's happened to it over the weekend. Hopefully it's now in your local depot and ready to be out for delivery tomorrow.

Finally, let's all have a silent moment of awe for the nano. ;-)

Steve

.........

Silence of awe for the Nano over. :p

Yeah, hopefully it moved a bit on Saturday, anyways, I should have it by tuesday at least.

Thanks for your help :)

But aren't the intel machines some time off yet? The black nano could have been around a good 12 months by the time the Intel machines are out.

Guess we'll get more of an idea when the next iPod get's released if it comes in black.

When did podfuture say that was? Around October 7th was it?

Good points - but the MacIntel upgrade is most likely the next form factor change for the systems.

Apple's pretty unlikely to change the design of any of the lame duck PPC systems.

What?!? You can't be serious. They've been there, done that will the old Wallstreets. I agree, completely.

No I don't see them changing the look of the current line up and I wouldn't be surprsised at all if they redesigned for the new intel machines. I'm just really hoping they don't go all dark on us.

There's enough choice of black and charcoal grey out there already and while I'm sure there is a market for it, I'd rather them stick with the white and aluminium look.

I guess a darker metal wouldn't look so bad but not black... please!!

white looks cheap, aluminum is just grey

The aluminium books are just another grey - there are quite a few thin grey Wintel laptops that at first glance could be mistaken for a P'book (I'm assuming that the first glance isn't of the Apple logo on top ;) ).

Anodized black aluminium isn't jet black - it can be a rich brushed aluminium, almost like a metalflake.

For the iBook/iMac, I'd expect a dark, metalflake grey, like BMW's "Titanium Grey Metallic"

or the Braun WK300

The current white is a bit cheap-looking, and gets dirty too easily.

I finally got the chance to play around with one of these at a Local Apple Store, it really is as great as it looks. :D

There are thin grey/silver Wintel books around but anything more than a cursory glance tells you that they're usually (if not always) plastic. Powerbooks, to someone that's familiar with them anyway, are pretty easy to spot.

I know what black anodized alu looks like and it wouldn't be so bad. I wouldn't mind a darker metal for the PBs. I just like them fine as they are though.

As for the ibooks, I still quite like the white look. The dirty ones I've seen seem to just get dirty on the inside. The glossy bits seem pretty resillient to dirt. Only going on shop soiled models though.

I think black would look okay but just not stand out anymore. Love or hate the white, it does make it recognisable.

I actually own that kettle by the way. lol Suppose it would look okay. Again, my fear is that it would just make them look a bit samey.

I'm SO TIRED...

also, why would I downgrade from 6gb?

BECAUSE i"M CRAZYYYY

Not as crazy as me. I'm downgrading from 10GB (3rd gen).

However, I do get a smaller and lighter iPod, a click wheel and a color screen in the process. And a sturdier iPod (flash vs hard disk) too.

I also have the Braun kettle. It's so nice to have a 3 kilowatt tea kettle - it makes the microwave seem absolutely glacial! :D

Most people just want a laptop as a tool. They'd prefer that it "blend into the background" of their lives.

Just a few need to shout "I'm different - I have an Apple".

And I literally know people who've looked at the iBook and have said that "oh, that white plastic is tacky" and then went to buy a Dell and an HP....
