MacBook Pro models feature an HDMI port that supports up to 8K resolution. The M4 Pro model is able to support up to three 6K displays at 60Hz over Thunderbolt or HDMI, an improvement over the previous M3 Pro model. Apple's M4 Pro chip alternatively supports one display at 6K resolution over 60Hz and a second display at 8K resolution at 60Hz or 4K resolution at 240Hz.

Meanwhile, the M4 Max model supports up to three external displays with 6K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one external display with up to 4K resolution at 144Hz over HDMI, or up to two external displays with 6K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one external display with up to 8K resolution at 60Hz or one external display with 4K resolution at 240Hz over HDMI.

We are never getting a 5K (or higher) display with 120Hz from Apple are we…

Debating on upgrading my personal/work M1 Max 64GB/1TB laptop to an M4 Max with double the RAM and SSD. Problem is, my M1 Max is still a beast and rarely stutters. However, it's getting ready to come off AppleCare+, so I might just stick with keeping a laptop with a functional warranty, despite never needing to use it. The peace of mind is awesome. Decisions, decisions.
ask for annual AppleCare? can get it indefinitely as far as i know

Wow… they did it. They actually kept the same wallpaper across the board. It doesn’t matter of course, but still that’s amazing. Wouldn’t they want to change it to make the machines feel newer?
Some comments suggesting the new marketing materials hadn’t gone up yet, but everything is now live and they have indeed reused the M3 wallpaper.

This is simultaneously the least important and most glaringly weird thing I’ve seen Apple do in a long time. New Macs always get new wallpaper! I feel like they’ve been doing this almost since the end of cat name MacOS versions; it’s just really surprising to see them stop all of a sudden, and also not go back to OS wallpapers like in the cat name era.

If Apple already have the M4 Max chip in production, why do they need to hold up the Mac Studio and Pro till the 2nd half of 2025 when people will be already expecting the M5 chips based on the rumors they hear about the iPhone 17 and iPad Pros.

To me, it sounds like an awfully long time to wait between the Macbook Pro and the desktop pro models, unless the Ultra variant is that hard to design and manufacture !

Considering the Center Stage Camera is on the Pro now, this makes it inferior to the Air's camera. 4K Center Stage any time soon?
All Center Stage Camera are 12MP in ultra wide. 4K is 8MP. I still wonder how did they put a 12MP sensor into that thin lid.

Because they know that for AI inference right now Apple offers hands down the best value and easiest setup out there. An A100 with 80GB of VRAM will setup you back 30k+ USD if you can get your hands on it. Meanwhile an M2 Ultra with double that in terms of VRAM allocation will set you back 5.6k. For research and development nothing beats having that much available locally.

Currently typing this via my 16" Intel 16/512 MBP - several apps open, including stuff I'm doing in Numbers, a few web browser pages, whilst listening to music through the lovely speakers.

97% battery at the moment, on my lap but no heat. just for a laugh I checked to see what Apple would offer for a trade-in against the new M4.

Apparently it's worthless, and time to recycle. And yet, here it is, doing its job...

Anyone know if the Holiday return policy for Apple goes from order date or delivery date ? It kicks in Nov 3rd this year so was curious if ordered a MacBook Pro if the Nov 8th pickup date would qualify for holiday return period to have more than couple weeks to decide to keep or not.

What?? why is there no WiFi 7???
"While final ratification is not expected until the end of 2024, the technical requirements are essentially complete, and as of February 2024 there are already products labeled as Wi‑Fi 7."

The official specification is not approved yet. The chips Apple bought were ordered months ago when the specification was even less finished. And since you can't just pull out the early adopter card and frisbee it into the trash bin and put in the new approved card that actually works you might want to wait a bit.

Because of the Ultra chip, be a bit embarrassing to say here's the new Mac Studio with M4 Max, the M4 Ultra Studio and Mac Pro though won't be out till sometime next year, we think..

You just forgot that they included it in the iPhone. This is nothing else but the typical magical move of drip feeding the features so that you're never satisfied and buy more more frequently.

did the m3 have nonotexture? Other than that I dont see a whole lot of updates? Better screen?
PLEASE PELASE bring back space gray! I hate the black.. :)!

Apple today announced new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, alongside a new entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M4 chip.

The new M4 Pro and M4 Max machines come with a minimum of 24GB of Unified Memory as standard, up from 18GB in the previous models. Both models feature three Thunderbolt 5 ports, the newest specification of Thunderbolt that offers speeds of up to 120 Gb/s with Bandwidth Boost, which is triple the maximum bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4.

The new standard also features support for native DisplayPort 2.1 output over USB‑C. Thunderbolt 5 is fully compatible with USB4, and supports advanced protocols such as PCIe 4.0, allowing faster data access speeds for storage devices and peripherals.

M4 Pro features a 14-core CPU with 10 performance cores and four efficiency cores, along with up to a 20-core GPU that is twice as powerful as M4, according to Apple. With M4 Pro, the new MacBook Pro offers a 75% increase in memory bandwidth over the prior generation. The new MacBook Pro with M4 Pro is also up to 3x faster than models with M1 Pro, says Apple.

The M4 Max model features up to a 16-core CPU, up to a 40-core GPU, over half a terabyte per second of unified memory bandwidth, and a Neural Engine that is over 3x faster than M1 Max. With M4 Max, MacBook Pro delivers up to 3.5x the performance of M1 Max, according to Apple. The M4 Max also supports up to 128GB of unified memory.

All models include an improved Liquid Retina XDR display thanks to an all-new nano-texture display option, offering up to 1000 nits of brightness for SDR content. There's also a new 12MP Center Stage camera, which Apple says delivers enhanced video quality in challenging lighting conditions. The new camera also supports Desk View, which shows both your face and the desk immediately below. On the 14-inch MacBook Pro, the M4 Pro model offers up to 22 hours of battery life, while the M4 Max model offers up to 18 hours. For the 16-inch MacBook Pro, users opting for the M4 Pro can get up to 24 hours of battery life, while the M4 Max offers up to 21 hours.

In addition, both models come with a SDXC card slot, a MagSafe 3 port for charging, and a headphone jack, along with support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Like their predecessors, the new MacBook Pro models with M4 Pro and M4 Max are available in space black and silver colors. The new MacBooks are available to pre-order starting today, and they will be available beginning Friday, November 8. In the US, pricing starts at $1,599 for the 14-inch MacBook Pro, and $2,499 for the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Hi, What cable/adaptor would I need to connect a MacBook pro M4 to an 8k monitor. Thanks, Terry

I currently own a MacBook Pro M1 Pro (2021) and am kinda torn between upgrading to this or waiting for the M5. Although it would be kinda suck-y if they postpone the redesign until the M6. Upgrading now would kinda *feel* like buying the same machine for the second time lol.

The M3 does not have nano texture, and it actually still comes in space gray. Space gray, silver, starlight, and midnight are all options.

Edit: sorry, I forgot the context and thought this was the MacBook Air

The base 14” M4 MBP starts at 2.000€ here in Spain (1.929€ to be more precise). And that’s the lowest base model! Holy guacamole!

At those prices, the MBP suddenly looks much less appealing. And wait for it! The 14” M4 Pro starts at 2.500€ (2.449€ to be more precise). That’s insane!
They used to start at 2000 EUR for 8GB which was beyond poor value. At least it's 16GB for 1900 now. At least in Germany.
