Are Nanotexture displays pretty similar to how all Powerbooks were back in the day? (Like the Powerbook Titaniums with the matte screens.)

Please consider that Wi-Fi 7 on the iPhone 16 is still limited to the 160 MHz width band. That’s because the unfinished spec.

That’s 6E in practice.

WiFi 7 specs and standards were finished and set beginning of this year and the WiFi Alliance started certifying WiFi 7 devices in January this year including with 320mhz support

Apple chose not to use 320mhz out of choice, not because the standards hadn’t been finalised.

I'm not new to Mac, but new to the m-series; just pick up a new (base) m3 mbp. There's always the discussion about how many screens can be powered from the machine. But does no-one use docks? I have a usb-c dock (powered by the mains) and I'm using 2 external displays + the built-in. The dock part #
Anyway, I suppose one could get a base m4 and still have multi monitor support if they felt they wanted it, without splurging on a more expensive mb(p).

I hope I can get 10 years of usage out of my M1 Max, as I did with my late 2013 i7. While not interested in this particular release, I am happy things are moving along. The feature I'd like most is the 1000 nits in SDR. Since the M1 hardware is indeed able of 1000 nits (on HDR), maybe someone will find a way to apply it to SDR content as well.

Does anyone know the difference between the two 16" M4 Pro models? Specs are identical except for starting RAM of 24GB vs 48GB, and the 24GB model can be built with 48GB for the same price. I don't understand why there are two different models. (the two different M4 Max models are obviously different cpu's).

Wow! Getting a lot more than just a simple chip swap here. I’m actually surprised. Time to upgrade from my M1 Max. That’s easily been the best laptop I’ve ever owned. M4 Max sounds like a worthy upgrade.
I have the same one. Why do you think that it is a worthy upgrade? (I am not sure what is the benefit in reality - M1 max is soo-oo good)

Nice bump. Going to stick with my maxed out m3max mbp until the next update:

More storage
Oled screen
Wifi 7
And even more P-cores.

I'm guessing because these are two different standard spec models they will carry in the stores themselves.

Is WiFi7 only a thing in the USA? It's not really available here. There are maybe 4 expensive routers (from two brands) and three of them were just released maybe a 1-2 months ago. No Internet provider is offering WiFi7 routers with their contracts.

I also looked for Thunderbolt 5 on Amazon two weeks ago or so and there wasn't even a cable or anything.

The nice thing about TB 5 is that it's fully USB 4 compatible, and there are tons of those devices around. I haven't seen detailed specs, but it could provide a speed boost because the M1's didn't have full support.

As far as Wifi7 goes, meh. I don't sling a lot of data around my local network, and have it wired when I'm at my desk in any case. The 6 ghz band I think is going to have limited use (line of sight, unblocked signal) in any case. I am upgrading to dual-band wifi7 routers this week, but that's for other features (VLAN).

Ditto on OLED - 90% of the time my machine is used at my desk, so perfectly happy with the regular screen to get the RAM, speed and storage bump.

Yes, it's this. Apple's choices on screen are the ones that will be standard options, and not require custom build-to-order (BTO). Although I think this is the first time we've seen 2 versions where the only difference was ram. Usually it's ram / storage, and/or upgraded cpu (eg. binned with a few cores disabled and full-fat). It's also nice that this means, down the line, more opportunities for these to be available at discounts at retailers / Amazon.

It looks like 2024 will be the year I finally buy a MacBook Pro. I ordered today during my lunch break at work.

I spent more than I planned (of course), but my only real quandary was about the nano-texture display. Due to my ignorance of it, I decided against it and bumped the SSD to 1TB instead. I think that’ll be more useful to me.

Unless there’s a glitch, they’ve also knocked £100 off the base model, down from £1,699, to £1,599 (UK 14”). With the increased RAM thrown in, that’s £300 cheaper than the previous 16/512 M3.

ok, now I’m interested….
Also 100€ reduction in Spain for some models. Example "M4 Pro" model is 2450€ and "M3 Pro" model was 2550€. Convinced me to pull the trigger.

WiFi 7 works like a dream with my iPhone 16, not that’s important but I get a constant 800mb download…great with 40 apps to update but that’s about it
