3yrs without a redesign or even facelift

The 13 inch touchbar model that came out in 2022 was basically the same design to the one Intel one in 2016. Larger model was changed slightly when they went from the 15 to 16inch.

I reckon a couple of years, at least, before it gets a hardware revision.

Finally leaving my i9 intel. Five years is a good run, but it's old. The new hotness is a silver 14" Apple M4 Pro 24GB/1TB with 14‑core CPU, 20‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine.
Expected delivery 11/19 :(

$10,000 CDN before tax for loaded Macbook Pro. Wow!
That happens with most products where there are multiple options. The price can climb to nose bleed levels if you check all of the boxes. It happens lot when new car models are released and people select unrealistic option combos and then complain that the price is crazy.

So does the new camera with desk view mode have the Smarts if it’s in your lap not to get you reported to HR? 🤔

I don´t get all the happy people, it´s only 1,2 more powerfull than the M3 Max.. that´s nothing! They need even to compare it to the M1 Max to make a X3 value looking better.. I expected more, will stay on M3 max of course.

It looks like 2024 will be the year I finally buy a MacBook Pro. I ordered today during my lunch break at work.

I spent more than I planned (of course), but my only real quandary was about the nano-texture display. Due to my ignorance of it, I decided against it and bumped the SSD to 1TB instead. I think that’ll be more useful to me.
I also ordered my new MacBook Pro, today!

As I understand it, it seems that the nano-textured display is designed for people using their Mac in bright sunlight, and since it isn’t my case, I went for the regular glass.

I also bought the 1TB drive, with 48GB of RAM. I hope I’ll be using this Mac for the rest of my career!

No WiFi 10 no 100 inch screen no buy.
Wifi 7 was finalised in January, it’s literally in the latest iPhone. OLED displays have been in various products for years, including iPads, which have been out since May. It is not currently unreasonable or unrealistic to want or expect these features in MacBooks, especially when they are the most expensive laptops in existence.

We were originally told to buckle up for a week of product announcements. A week. It's Wednesday evening; we still have Thursday and Friday to go. The MacBook Air 16GB base RAM news was a footnote in a press release. That means Mac Studio and Mac Pro refreshes will come this week, probably Thursday and Friday respectively.

Or, Mac Studio and refreshed displays, with Mac Pro and M4 Shazam held back for a separate event early next year.

My money's on a firmware update activating WiFi 7 at a later date.

This update really seems to hit the lower end Macs the best...the base models across the lineup are much better values. The new SDR brightness is also big along with a Nano-option for people.

The upper ones are great, but the cost for upgrades is a lot to swallow. Sticking with my M1 Max still.

Glad Thunderbolt 5 is here, but am waiting for Wifi 7, a new design, OLED and hopefully cellular/face ID.

But overall this was a good week for the Mac.
I just bought a surplus M1 Max 16 Pro 32/1TB in April for $1500. I’ll be sticking with that for a few years I reckon.

It’s a beautiful machine and seeing that the M4 is probably less than twice the speed in day to day tasks I’m happy to ride this incredible 1st gen product out until I can get a surplus M4 Max for the same price.

Upgrading from M1 Pro. 16GB of Memory was a mistake at the time and 512GB storage is also hardly working out when you need to do some after effects. So 1TB storage and 48GB memory here I come.

Haven’t run into any of that with the M4 iPad Pro with tandem layer OLED.
It takes around 2-3 years, mostly with static pictures. Just read reviews about any OLED tvs and other gadgets with OLED screens. OLED has organic nature and burn-in is just a matter of time. The one can’t be skipped.

I’m using an M2 Max MBP and I just have absolutely no reason to upgrade. I’ve never once had it lag on me for anything. Not an exaggeration; I seriously can’t think of a single time this laptop has ever felt slow doing anything at all. I am a senior level software engineer and use the MacBook heavily for work. The only issues I’ve ever had with it were some crashing due to a bad thunderbolt cable. I’m extremely pleased with my purchase.

Also 100€ reduction in Spain for some models. Example "M4 Pro" model is 2450€ and "M3 Pro" model was 2550€. Convinced me to pull the trigger.
That's probably because they bumped it up by about 100€ for M3 lineup last year. At least that's what happened in France. I got an M2 Pro earlier and when I checked for similar specs on M3 Pro lineup, it was more expensive by about 100-120€. This year it's back to what I paid for M2 Pro with similar specs.

Well, Apple does not really expect an M2 or M3 lineup owners to upgrade to this anyway. Even an M1 is a stretch. It would be stupid to do so.
