3yrs without a redesign or even facelift
That happens with most products where there are multiple options. The price can climb to nose bleed levels if you check all of the boxes. It happens lot when new car models are released and people select unrealistic option combos and then complain that the price is crazy.$10,000 CDN before tax for loaded Macbook Pro. Wow!
Haven’t run into any of that with the M4 iPad Pro with tandem layer OLED.No OLED - awesome!
The one will bring new problems: burn-in, improper calibration, color non uniformity.
I also ordered my new MacBook Pro, today! It looks like 2024 will be the year I finally buy a MacBook Pro. I ordered today during my lunch break at work.
I spent more than I planned (of course), but my only real quandary was about the nano-texture display. Due to my ignorance of it, I decided against it and bumped the SSD to 1TB instead. I think that’ll be more useful to me.
No wifi 7 no oled no buy.
Still can't easily run Linux on them.
Wifi 7 was finalised in January, it’s literally in the latest iPhone. OLED displays have been in various products for years, including iPads, which have been out since May. It is not currently unreasonable or unrealistic to want or expect these features in MacBooks, especially when they are the most expensive laptops in existence. No WiFi 10 no 100 inch screen no buy.

I just bought a surplus M1 Max 16 Pro 32/1TB in April for $1500. I’ll be sticking with that for a few years I reckon. This update really seems to hit the lower end Macs the best...the base models across the lineup are much better values. The new SDR brightness is also big along with a Nano-option for people.
The upper ones are great, but the cost for upgrades is a lot to swallow. Sticking with my M1 Max still.
Glad Thunderbolt 5 is here, but am waiting for Wifi 7, a new design, OLED and hopefully cellular/face ID.
But overall this was a good week for the Mac.
It takes around 2-3 years, mostly with static pictures. Just read reviews about any OLED tvs and other gadgets with OLED screens. OLED has organic nature and burn-in is just a matter of time. The one can’t be skipped.Haven’t run into any of that with the M4 iPad Pro with tandem layer OLED.
That's probably because they bumped it up by about 100€ for M3 lineup last year. At least that's what happened in France. I got an M2 Pro earlier and when I checked for similar specs on M3 Pro lineup, it was more expensive by about 100-120€. This year it's back to what I paid for M2 Pro with similar specs. Also 100€ reduction in Spain for some models. Example "M4 Pro" model is 2450€ and "M3 Pro" model was 2550€. Convinced me to pull the trigger.
Well, Apple does not really expect an M2 or M3 lineup owners to upgrade to this anyway. Even an M1 is a stretch. It would be stupid to do so.I don´t get all the happy people, it´s only 1,2 more powerfull than the M3 Max.. that´s nothing! They need even to compare it to the M1 Max to make a X3 value looking better.. I expected more, will stay on M3 max of course.
