Coming soon: Ads inside Apple Maps
Apple Maps doesn’t have as big a following compared to Google Maps so I would argue the revenue they would gain from Maps wouldn’t be worth the bad press. Now if Maps adoption was more or equal to Google then we’ll get ads for sure. App store has always been a staple in the tech world so it was only a matter of time.

I hope you are right, but experience in life has taught me that eventually, people will accept anything. Apple just has to keep pushing.

It’s true, after I said that I remembered what Microsoft has done to Windows. Apple has a different model and hopefully they don’t go too far down that dark path.

I dislike all ads but especially ads in sections where I don't expect them. We pay a big price for the device and we should have some say/control in the visibility of advertising. Since it is all HTML anyway, hopefully the pi-hole people will find a straightforward way of blocking them.

It kind of is, isn’t it 😆? I mean, no business will advertise it, but making money is pretty much the whole purpose of every business when it comes down to it.

If both profit and environment benefit, it’s not impossible to do it for both reasons.
The environment would probably benefit from them not pushing their customers to upgrade every year but you are not going to see that happening.

Apple doesnt push their customers to upgrade. They produce a product(s) yearly and people decide if they want to purchase a product or not. If what you are really saying corporations shouldn’t have yearly upgrade cycles, people still need to buy products. People still need cars, phones, etc. the manufacture of these products won’t cease. Additionally many products incorporate further environmental savings features than their predecessors.

They didn’t lie because it’s true. It’s just not the only reason. But of course, expecting any company to say “we want to make a few more bucks on selling you something at the same price” isn’t the most reasonable.
If it was true they would have left the chargers out of the box and given a free ice to those who wanted it or reduced the iPhone price by the cost of the charger. It’s profit seeking. That and nothing else.

Why would apple reduce the price when clearly in these inflationary times the price of everything has gone up. As it is apple held the line on the price of the phone.

At one point, I used to look at the app store quite frequently. But less and less as the whole shebang is so tedious.

The confusion about how much an app will cost - by the time you add undefined in app purchases to the original purchase price.

Apps which don't work in my language.

Uncertainty as to which apps really will work across IOS, iPadOS and macOS.

Privacy statements which are astonishing for what they claim or don't claim.

I end up not installing very much at all. And most that I even look at are due to being discussed elsewhere. Not by searching app store - I only do that at the end.

This is something that I don’t like. I pay Apple prices to get an ad free, secure user experience. I really hope this doesn’t expand to other parts of iOS like some rumours have suggested (maps for example).

Exec 1: We are the most profitable company in the world. How can we continue to improve the experience of using our products?
Exec 2: I know - lets insert more ads!
Exec 3: Brilliant!
