Apple Announces Multi-Display CarPlay With Integrated Speedometer, Climate Controls, and More

We’ve been telling you that Apple is not making a car. Here you go. It’s the Apple Car. Soon with self driving.

Maybe this was discussed but since I haven't watched the full video yet (planning on tonight), I don't know the answer. Will there be interface updates for those of us that don't have $40,000+ to spend on a new car? I have a pretty nice 8" display in my 2018 Accord Touring so some of these improvements would be nice. I would like to be able to set up iOS widgets to be displayed in the car. One in particular is my Dexcom (glucose monitor) widget so I can see my glucose numbers clearly when I am driving.

IOS 17 feature - If the cars that support this (multiscreen with car controls) aren't out until NEXT year, why is being featured today? In short, are there no new features for CarPlay in IOS 16? At least add Dark Sky or SOME weather feature.

haha i recognize those street names, that's oakland. strange that apple wouldn't use cupertino streets.

so ford doesn't support CarPlay? i was looking at the electric mustang to replace my M3. i guess it can't be worse than the M3 in that respect.

Wish Tesla supported CarPlay, but more chance of them bringing out a petrol version.

Tesla infotainment is lousy, although it’s a great car despite that.

Mid year 2023’s come out in January or so. So during the IOS 16 year.

ford supports CarPlay and if you watch the video closely you will see a new feature just for the mach-e and it’s strange sized display.

ok thanks, someone upthread said it wasn't really properly supported in their new ford (not mustang.) i wasn't able to watch the keynote but maybe i'll go back and watch.

I’ll be excited when they stop taking me away from Apple Maps while I’m driving so I can see a useless voice to text screen. Makes responding to text while using GPS very annoying.

Interestingly BMW wasn't on the list of participants. Even though they have a model with a display that looks very much like that.

My dream is that one day, I can get into a rental car, fire up CarPlay and the car will immediately set my preferred temperature, favorite local radio stations, and possibly even my own power seat and mirror settings....
OMG, that would be so f--ing amazing!

Toyota/Lexus will be last. Just like last time. sigh
Sigh... I know. It's just painful. Toyota feels so outdated and behind the times. Even non-infotaimment items, like the fact the Camry now has AWD but the hybrid version doesn't yet the Rav4 Hybrid does. Doesn't make sense.

Reminds me of the Porsche display and probably jives with Porsche recently indicating they were working with Apple on some projects
Soon we'll have apps being downloaded and people will customize their dashboards and have utility apps installed. Great for developers too.

Quite possibly. Toyota are only starting to get mainstream with wireless CarPlay, and I notice that they are conspicuously absent on the list of manufacterers who are collaborating with Apple on new CarPlay features.

The wired CarPlay on my Toyota CHR drives me mad. Half the time when I attach the phone, I have to power-cycle the display unit by long-pressing the volume control. That's enough to kick it into action, start the iPhone chiming every few seconds, then eventually recognising CarPlay.

I can’t even imagine having my primary vehicle displays be dependent on a third-party external device

Not to worry. I won’t have a car that will even be able to do this for a decade still….assuming this even actually becomes a thing
