I'll admit that I was wrong. My bottom price was $549 if it had everything the 6s has minus 3D Touch. Apple has never shot for a low price like this before. It breaks just about every rule that they have set about being a premium company—I mean isn't this is actually kinda worrying?

Maybe this price is going to be spread out over several years like the iPod Touch, so that it doesn't get upgraded very often and the components come down in price over time? Maybe they're negotiating even better prices on components? Maybe it has inferior materials such as the display, much like the iPod Touch? I'm trying to find something here. Do you think that they will be moving to an all-robotic production line? That Liam robot sure looked really advanced in what it could do taking devices apart. Why couldn't it also put the whole thing together? That could save some costs.

Maybe they will come out with the iPhone Pro line this autumn, and the increase in margins on that will offset having a lower cost option that brings more people to iOS and away from cheaper Android models? Maybe that would increase the total number of users while also increasing overall profits when averaged from high-end to low-end? It seems to be the strategy for the iPad. The iPad Pro starts at $200 more. Perhaps the iPhone 7 will also be a little cheaper, and the iPhone Pro will be a little more expensive? So $549 instead of $649 but not have all the fancy new features, but still some improvements and new design? Then the Pro model would start at like $749?

I just…my brain is broken right now with this price. It's great that they could price it this low, but I'm just trying to figure out how, especially as I'm an investor. Some of the things I said above I think could justify it somewhat, but that's a pretty big cut of 38.5%. Maybe this is a long bet on their future? Bring in customers and get them hooked into other upsells like Apple Watches with different bands, iPhone cases, iPads with their pencils and keyboards, Macs, etc? This is a really ballsy move.

Can you confirm whether the FaceTime camera is 5MP or 1.2MP? I seem to recall the keynote saying 5MP, which was echoed by the MacRumors article, but the Apple site seems to say 1.2MP.
I can't confirm anything, you know just about as much as I do.

$399 is unprecedented for Apple. I'm totally shocked.

What's there to be shocked at? The $399 starting price is ridiculous, only a fool would pay that for 16GB device. The real starting price is $499 for the 64GB.

Does this pave the way for an iPhone 7 looking more like the now old 5S? I mean, if Apple really loved the 6 design the SE would've gotten it as well.

-It's not thinner
-No ****ing camera bump
-Actually reasonable price (for the US at least because in the EU you're raped by all sorts of taxes)
-Upgrade to 64GB is actually a viable thing to do now, price wise.

If I still had my iPhone 5 I would've gotten this. I got a 6S though because I'd also liked the bigger screen on the front. But it's a nice device.

I don't wear skinny jeans and the 6 plus is just too big. I cannot get in and out of my car without needing to remove the phone from my pocket.

Then you are wearing jeans that are too tight. I have no issues at all whether I am wearing jeans, slacks, shorts, etc.

My 6S Plus has Band 30 since I have the fully unlocked version, but what does Band 30 really do for AT&T customers? Provide new tech that they will use? I got it for T-Mobile, so doubt it means much to me.

Faster speeds/less congestion/another voice channel and specifically on the 6S/6S+, it seems that there is 3xCA support. That means the phone can combine a combination of B2/4/5/17/29/30 in sets of 3 to provide faster data.

B30 seems to be live in various cities across the US. There are reports of it on HoFo. Even a 3xCA sighting on Staten Island. AT&T was pushing 200+ mbps down.

so I'm on Verizon and looked at the 64 GB prices, it said I was eligible for an upgrade on September 19th.

It gave me 2 options on the Apple site, upgrade today, contract free, for $500, or sign a 2 year contract in September for $50.

But what about if I renew a 2 year contract today? Can I get it for $50? I'd happily sign a fresh 2 year contract extension now if I could get it for $50.

Talk to Verizon and/or Apple. Tell them you're eagerly waiting a new phone and will gladly commit if they move up your contract renewal up by about 6 months. Discuss how your current phone is limited in terms of hardware if you need to. Just be courteous and I am sure they will work something out. Even if it means paying a little more upfront.

When I worked at Best Buy Mobile, we had customers doing early iPhone upgrades for a slight upcharge like $100 more on top of the contract rate at the time. Albeit it was halfway through a contract rather than most of the way there. Good luck.

it'll have 2gb of ram.
I hope so. The 399 price point is lower than I was thinking, so I fear it may only have 1gb!

Is there any current Apple device that has a9 + 1gb? Or would they have to make a new soc for that?

If the only a9 soc available has 2gb, then I'd be pretty confident of 2gb because I don't think they'll do a new soc when they could just use the old one.

"I wish Apple would just go back to a 4 inch iPhone again, it was the perfect size. Not everyone wants a bigger phone."

"I wish Apple would go back to the iPhone 5s design, it was the best design they ever did. The new design sucks with the protruding camera lens and those ugly antenna lines!"

*Apple releases iPhone SE addressing both of these complaints*

"What the hell Apple! At leases make a new design! All they've done is just repackaged a 5s!"

So the outer design of the se is same as 5S? A 3 year old design? They will keep this for 2 yrs atleast so it will be a five yr old design

Why didnt they just use the ipod touch design and thicken it up

Jesus. That's fast. I can't even get MMS and SMS to work consistently on my GS7 Edge on T-Mobile. My iPhone gives me better signal though.
