Heartbroken-- I was finally going to be able to afford a phone by trading in the old one at the apple store but apple just devalued my old one so it won't take enough off the price to make it happen. BUH!

Looks like this iPhone doesn't have B30 support for AT&T.

Once an elegant Apple product line slowly turning into a mess. Pro, SE, Plus, with 3D touch, without 3D touch, with Live Photos, without, this autumn with 2 cameras and with a single one... Want a smaller phone with all the features? Nope. Go get the huge one.

Also, if you want an iPad Pro with bigger base storage get the smaller one.

I compared as well....They could have put in the 5mp front camera for goodness sakes...even if they raised the price by 50 and included some of the above I would have paid for it.

Shoddy job if you ask me. They put in the high end 12 MP 4k camera (albeit without OIS, but a lot of Apple fans don't care), but no 5 MP, it's a joke. But at least you get the front facing flash mechanism + HD recording at the minimum.

Looks really great, so long as it's 2GB of RAM (which it *should* be with an A9, unless they pulled a tricky one on us... i.e.: special version of the A9 or something). Starting at 16GB storage is plain silly, but I guess they'd really have pissed 6s folks off if they'd started at 32GB.

Noticeable differences between the 6S Plus and SE according to Apple's comparison page:

  • No Dual-domain pixels for wide viewing angles for SE.
  • No LTE Advanced in SE.
  • No Display Zoom and Reachability for SE.
  • No MIMO w/ Wifi in the SE.
  • No second generation Touch ID speeds for the SE.
  • No Optical Image Stabilization in the SE Camera.
  • No OIS for Video.
  • No 5 MP front facing camera. Only 1.2 for the SE.
  • Auto HDR only for photos for front facing camera of SE.
  • No Barometer in SE.

In other words... NO BIG DEAL. :) But, I'm not sure why you're comparing it to the Plus in the first place.

....People need to quit bitching about this. We are in the minority. I'm willing to bet 60% of iPhone users are people who just use 3-5 apps and make phone calls, text, and answer e-mails. Unless you are loading music, movies, or taking tons of pictures most people don't need more then 16 GB.

I understand why you want more, and I personally have a 64 GB but they obviously are making money doing this and there are a large number of people buying them.

At least for me, it's about what Apple does to their UX reputation, not about what *I WANT*. I'll just buy the 64GB version. The problem is the newbies who go to the phone store and buy the base model (that's pushed and advertised constantly, as that's the price they have in their head), assuming that with a premium phone like an iPhone, even the base model should be OK. Then, after a few months, they find they are struggling with storage.

The point being, the amount Apple gains in up-sells (short term) isn't worth the potential bad user experience (long term).

According to Apple the FaceTime HD camera is 1.2...

How queer. I was almost certain that the keynote has said 5MP. Perhaps, it's an erratum; I'm sure there was something of a rush getting it updated. Then again, I could quite easily be wrong.

UPDATE:

According the MacRumors:

The iPhone SE features Apple's latest 12-megapixel camera. Thanks to the improved camera, 63-megapixel panoramas can be captured and 4K video at 30 FPS is supported. The new handset also features a 5-megapixel front-facing FaceTime camera with a True Tone Retina Flash feature that lights up the display of the iPhone significantly more than usual, just before a photo is captured.

I have to think that's based on the keynote. Perhaps I'm not crazy.

You won't be doing much 4K recording on 16GB anyway.
If you have 64GB you might be.

I just find it amusing that Apple promotes 4K video recording when you can't view it on their own TV product. That's a product disconnect to me. The phone's screen isn't 4K either.

This is right at the upper end of the price point I wanted it to be for my son's device. Should come out to be around $7-8 a month on TMO with trade-in.

64GB $829 Aus (after tax). Expensive but I might just pre-order it. It's the first phone Apple has released since the 5S. And it looks amazing.

I'll only buy it if it has 2GB of RAM.

1GB and I'll stick with my iPhone 5, as it's fine for my needs, but I'm sick of apps/browser tabs reloading.

Well, sir/ma'am, this will be one interesting teardown in the next few days. I was in your shoes w/ the 6S Plus. If it had 1GB of RAM, no upgrade from the 6 Plus. It sucks being in that situation, but I certainly do hope they put 2GB of RAM to make the phone more in tune with its bigger siblings.

It's absolutely ridiculous that there is no 128gb model. My 4s was 64gb. 4S! Do you realize how many years ago that was (hint: 5 years). And it filled up completely... quickly. If you take pictures regularly your phone will fill up real fast (and I'm taking about the 64gb model). I've had a 5s for years and it's been completely full the whole time. Some apps and stuff, no music (no room for it), but mostly pictures... and forget about video, there's no room for that. Constantly having to go back, back up, and then delete. And now 4k video? Prepare to shoot just a couple mins and fill up your phone completely. 4k video files are not small (even compressed). 16gb... jesus, you can't get much more clueless than that. You people who are thinking of getting a 16gb, don't bother, waste of money. Guess I'll hold onto the 5s until they figure out how to advance the smaller storage option beyond 2011 (when the first 64 4s phones were released). Sad.
