thx, fj. So if I wait for the 17" I'll get the better res. Was there any hint today when that refresh is coming?

I can't understand why they made it look virtually identical to the MBP.

The difference between this and the MBP in both spec and looks is now minimal.

Hi
No FireWire!!!
Seriously do they think it's funny to do this to people?
There is plenty of room!?!
Just like for my iPod touch, I plan to wait for refurbished units to save some $$$. Anywho...No FW is really a stickler for me and choking to swallow. USB is OK for printers, mice, flash drives, ... but for external hard drives and such...I just am having a hard time accepting. I'm torn. I'm not a great fan of NVIDIA either but eh.

WTF no 17"?

Why did they have to shaft the 17" MBP users. The supposed refresh doesn't even have the new graphics chip.

uh oh...

The US Apple Store is DOWN. I was in but then kaboom.

Must be all those auto unibody enthusiasts.

Great machines, just cannot get over the £100 price hike on the Pro and £20 on the old one.

1 Infinite Loop MY AR*E

1 Infinite Greed more like.

How the hell do existing Mac users even MIGRATE without Firewire on the MacBook? Apple who is your audience now?

Wow, it's like deja-vu all over again!

It's like being magically transported back in time to MacRumors forums when they did the last design change to the laptops. The complaints from people are almost word-for-word with the inevitable "I'm not buying another Apple again" or "glad I just upgraded so I don't have to buy one of these ugly things".

Stay classy guys, and never change! (no worries about that actually). ;)

(btw, this is in reply to all the other posts on other threads about the new MacBooks...not necessarily this thread here).

Refurbished MacBook 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - Black

2GB memory
250GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Built-in iSight camera

Might want to consider this option now. Faster, sleeker, and for only 100 dollars more than the low end white today.

I don't know if we are expecting more out of Apple or what but the last couple of updates have kind of fizzeled out. I waited for the Penryn update and thought there might be more to it, but nope. Bought it and couldn't be more pleased with it. This update makes me glad I never sold my Penryn MBP and waited for this one. The 2 tone makes it look like a toy and or reminds me of the HP machines. I would be upset if I waited since spring for this machine. Seems like really nothing "new" just playing with old technology. (no click button, LEDs, body enclosure, and dvi port) Only thing "I would want" is user replacable HD.

Who puts their prices UP during a worldwide recession?

£720 for a MacBook (£620 Ex Tax)... Was £699 inc VAT Yesterday...

Apples Widget tell me that $999 is £569!

What's with the £130 premium for the old plastic notebook. (COMBO FFS)

Apple: You DESERVE to LOSE sales for this. How can I honestly recommend you to PC users now?

I am actually appalled at this. Think I might buy 2nd hand now...

Absolute crap. No firewire on the MB means it's dead to me. No change of heart possible at all. And reducing the processor and increasing the price? Masters of the absurd. I feel like strangling Jobs. FFS!

Exactly, why not a 17" update. I was so looking forward to having my boss buy my 17" because I use it at work all the time now instead of my pc. Then I would by a new 17". I like the looks and features of the new 15" mbp, but I do programming / graphics layout and such and like the hires option. I don't know if I could live with 1440x900

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

This trend of mac displays going glossy displeases me to no end. As a creative professional, I state at these things all day (and sometimes even into the late evening). The last thing I want to have to deal with is a harsh reflection from any other lights in the room.

Apple store is redown in Canada. Cutting the edu discount even more? I wouldn't even be surprised. I was just about to order your overpriced MBP.

Couldn't agree more. **** those better graphics too, if the price isn't reasonable for me.

Companies that appeal to clientele who don't quibble about a few hundred dollars.

And with the current economy, that clientele is shrinking fast. Right now EVERYONE is price conscious, whether they need to be or not.

wot the... i was waiting for this an the price is ridiculous. im just guna get the old one and i hope the education discount hasnt decreased in the uk like elsewhere, at least for the old macbook! im am so not happy, im guna go 2 da gym 2 get rid of sum of the frustration aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.

No firewire...No deal as far as i'm concerned.
Looks like I'm sticking with my current MacBook until i can afford the extra price hike to a MBP!

Apple have really made a true lemon out of this one!

NO Firewire on MacBook, NO PURCHASE!

Absolute crap. No firewire on the MB means it's dead to me.

Think of the clinetele. People who buy Macbooks today don't use the old technology Apple used to use. Firewire is no longer compatible with iPods, and only external HDDs seem to support it. It just isn't important to have one. I'd take an extra USB port any day.

Has anybody noticed a mini displayport => DisplayPort adapter on Apple's lineup? I mean since mini-displayport is a completely proprietary port and I'd like to have full size (since e.g. the 2008 Dell displays do handle DP)
