Don't know why everyone is complaining about the price. They pretty much dropped the MacBook Pro to the price of a MacBook plus $300. I'm not complaining about that at all. I got my order in as soon as the Stevenote was over. But of course, as others have noted, in a period of time you'll all think it's absolutely beautiful.

down again

the store is down again. maybe they realized they made a mistake on the student discount hopefully. I think it should be $50 on low end 100 on New macbooks and 200 on pros.

Disk utility.....

I understand how Apple sees the Macbook as a consumer product and that Firewire is more of a 'professional' connection, but removing it altogether was a serious error.

The reason? What about 'transfering your settings from another Mac' which can only be done via Firewire? What about, also, mounting your Mac HD on other Macs for file transfers (again, can only be done via firewire?).

Just months after the FW 800 was introduced into the new iMac, Apple kills FW altogether from the Macbook. I don't understand this song and dance routine.

Disk Utility my friend. I've been doing it this way for a while. I back up one mac to a USB and then just connect to the new one and reboot off the USB.
Then use USB to load SETTINGS and EVERYTHING over to the new mac.

(You then make sure to have a backup of everything before you do anything.)

I find it preferable. But that's just me. ;)

I think it's really ironic that everyone has been waiting months and months and months and complaining about how Apple has been making them wait for updates and now that they are released they are STILL complaining. I don't understand why you can't just be happy that they finally updated? It seems like no one will ever be happy, no matter what they do.

So say I know someone who bought a Macbook (low-end) about 3 weeks ago. Does she have any options to attempt to get a new one? Or is she stuck with it?

Thanks

Also I hate gaps between keys on the keyboard.

That was my biggest beef with the new keyboards also. I like the feel of the old one. I did notice that the description of the keys sounds different than the wireless alum one I use:

The rigid aluminum keyboard webbing has been cut precisely to hold the keys. And the keys are curved to perfectly fit fingers.

Australia has been screwed over with the pricing. $2500 for the high end model without education discount. Though people like me pay for them

OK all you Rev A testers - get out there and buy this thing so Apple can hurry up and get the kinks worked out. :D

Then in a year I can feel better about replacing my 2 1/2 year old MB.

Good: New MB = Awesome 2.1 has SD Standard
Bad: 2.0Ghz vs 2.4?
Question: Is the 9400 128-Bit because if so..

Yes, now everyone sees that the waiting wasn't worth it. :p

They've always got to have something to keep the Macbook Pros selling.

Before, it was the video card difference that kept the Pros going for the MBP.

Now that the cards are much closer to each other, they had to find something else to take away from the Macbook.

That something was firewire.

Steve giveths [better graphics chip]:):):), Steve taketh away [FireWire].:mad::mad:

I guess I'll wait for the NeXT;) MacBook that might come with eSATA. Seems Apple is hellbent on killing off FireWire.:p First it was the iPods, now the MacBooks.

Just an FYI, there must have been a mistake on the store, cause I ordered the $1299 macbook, and the only options for keyboard was backlit. It specifically said that the keyboard was backlit on the 2.0 and it just gave you an option for what language.... this was before the store went down.

So does this mean the keyboard is backlit? I have no idea, but I do know if it's not I'll be showing them the printout of my receipt.... and smiling nicely... uh yea. Maybe try to get something.

No Firewire? Glossy only? Not for me!

So....Apple has been touting iLife for years. Buy our computers and make your own home movies and DVDs. Guess what....my camcorder only has Firewire. Now what do I do? Buy a new camcorder? No way. I'm skipping this. Not to mention the glossy screen. I don't need to see my own reflection when I'm working on my Macintosh. I'll be holding onto my 12" Powerbook thank you very much. Way to go Steve & Co. Way to go. If these had Firewire and Matte screens I'd be at the store in line now.

After all the recent rumours I was starting to think i'd be disappointed by the new macbooks. BUT, I love all the new features yet there is one thing I am soooo annoyed about..

The UK prices are so excessive, and now I can't afford one this instant - NOT HAPPY. Cheapest NEW model = £949 (The price of the old blackbook, the then high level macbook!

AND they INCREASE the price of the entry-level macbook by 20 quid (I know others have pointed this out already) after they were saying they had REDUCED it!

NOT IMPRESSED

shipping today

He actually said "shipping today", as Cwallace correctly noticed, and not in november as noted in the news post.

In the store (where I got a glimpse before it went back down) it said 1-3 days shipping.
