Apple Announces New Aluminum MacBooks

Yes. Apple made the perfect small notebook computer for use as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), esp. if price and/or size were factors. They were perfect for a bedroom studio or as a mobile DAW, etc. They were fully able to produce "professional quality" result and yet students could afford them as well as beginners. The MacBooks could make audio recording that sounded just as good as ones made on a MacBook Pro. But that was viewed as a real problem apparently...

Once Apple woke up and realized how many "slackers" were using their fantastic ($1000) MacBooks to actually create something Apple decided to cripple the Macbook. Make 'em pay $2000 for the "luxury" of a $10 FW interface!

"It just works" is history a far as I'm concerned, i'd rather it still be plastic and get the firewire back.

Apple's "think different" concept is also dead. That was merely advertising rhetoric. Nowadays, Apple is apparently only interested in making computers for consumers of content rather than for creators of content.

I think the Black glass screen is just too mix and match and looks like a pc style rather then macintosh style. Come on apple where is that macintosh style gone.

p.s my mobile me still isn't working apple needs to sort this out now! It wont sync any of my documents. Also iweb isn't publishing my website properly.

yea, if your like, 20 feet away they look the same.....

Get in closer and look at what apple does best, the little details.

New trackpad, All glass screen (no not a first), slot loaded drive, built in isight with led that look stunning when you look at it.

Now you can hate the new look, but you cant really say its the same design as the pc you posted. (edit: WOW i didnt even recognize that laptop is the one im using LOL)

The 12 PB had firewire. I need a small laptop and firewire. Now you're telling me, that the only mac that they make that has these features is WORSE than the mac I have.

This NOT an upgrade. I am a longtime mac customer, that has bought many of a machine, and they no longer make the mac that I need.

I would buy for that ignorant crowd that you mention, the CHEAP mac, and guess what, they would get firewire.

How effed up is that???

If you're a family with a camcorder wouldn't it make more sense to get an iMac anyway which still has 2 FW ports?

I was hoping to see esata on the Macbook pro... I was not expecting to see the exclusion of Firewire on the Macbook!

When I called Apple to register my complaint, the consumer relation rep said that they have been hit hard with calls from consumers regarding the lac of FireWire. Frickin sweet! :)

I think they are marvelous works of engineering.

Once they are a bit cheaper/i finally have the money to buy one i will be getting one. luckily that time will be around jan-feb, does anyone know if apple has some sort of event around that time period where lots of their products are released and updated?;)

Myself for one. Was about to switch to a couple of MacBooks. Not now. I'm not going to be gouged AU$3200 for a MacBook "Pro", and the baseline AU$2099 has no Firewire, so that renders the devices I'd use useless.

Was really looking forward to switching, too. :( My loss, I guess.

possibilities:
Macbook with FW (apples been "bombarded" with complaints)
17" MBP (mayb some updates to distinguish it from the 15" )

wont see:
Tablet
netbook
$800 (current gen) macbook
