I travel a lot so I need a small form factor and I'm into my music. I record with an M-Audio 410 which is FIREWIRE. I was looking for the graphics performance upgrade to improve the iLife suite but buy dropping the Firewire they have just killed everything that makes the macbook a macbook.
Yes. Apple made the perfect small notebook computer for use as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), esp. if price and/or size were factors. They were perfect for a bedroom studio or as a mobile DAW, etc. They were fully able to produce "professional quality" result and yet students could afford them as well as beginners. The MacBooks could make audio recording that sounded just as good as ones made on a MacBook Pro. But that was viewed as a real problem apparently...
Once Apple woke up and realized how many "slackers" were using their fantastic ($1000) MacBooks to actually create something Apple decided to cripple the Macbook. Make 'em pay $2000 for the "luxury" of a $10 FW interface!
"It just works" is history a far as I'm concerned, i'd rather it still be plastic and get the firewire back.
Apple's "think different" concept is also dead. That was merely advertising rhetoric. Nowadays, Apple is apparently only interested in making computers for consumers of content rather than for creators of content.
I've submitted my feedback to apple as well.![]()
Great. I hope more do the same here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html
