MacWorld 2009 and I (want to) see:
Tablet
Maybe re-designed Mac Pro
All Cinema Displays updated
17" MacBook Pro "true" update
iLife '09 and iWork '09

why do you want to see a tablet? I can expect Apple to bring multitouch to some other form other than the iPhone to consumers but tablets?!! May be something like the old newton.

It's sickening how Jonathan Ives spews trash about how they don't withhold pro features from their consumer notebooks, yet they went about removing firewire, considered an essential. I'd rather have firewire than a unibody case. Seriously. Apple is stupid.

yea, if your like, 20 feet away they look the same.....

Get in closer and look at what apple does best, the little details.

New trackpad, All glass screen (no not a first), slot loaded drive, built in isight with led that look stunning when you look at it.

Now you can hate the new look, but you cant really say its the same design as the pc you posted. (edit: WOW i didnt even recognize that laptop is the one im using LOL)
Im talking about the colour style like having a black keyboard on a aluminium palm rest with black display border its the same style, apple does do it a hell of a lot better not doubting that but i think they should of kept with all one colour. PC have the mixed colour thing going on and its too mix and match like they are sticking odd parts together.

That would be nice. I've already sent them my tuppence.

As did I, I dont actually need FW, but ive seen how so many of you want it so I decided to give you guys a hand.

I was looking forward to trying out FW once I got mac.

I think the black bezel makes the MacBook look smaller. Black has a slimming effect.

well jeez a firetruck and an apple are the same color, i guess they look the same then.

If apple had continued with their same look, people would (as they have been) bitch about apple never giving an actual redesign. Were they sexy before? hell yea! Are they sexy now? Hell yea! but in a new styling.

You can only stretch the same look for about 5 years before it starts to look outdated.

possibilities:
Macbook with FW (apples been "bombarded" with complaints)

I doubt it, no matter how many complaints they get. Apple has decided that this will be one of the main differentiators between MB and MBP and will push people to spend another $700. And I don't think they could update their manufacturing line in two months, even if they wanted to.

wont see:
Tablet
netbook
$800 (current gen) macbook

And definitely not Blu-Ray. ("Blu-Ray is a bag of hurt.")

It really makes the colors pop, deffinatly one of the reasons apple chose it (along with glossy). If the screen looks great and really pops out your average consumer is going to be much more impressed.

Oh apple, you manipulative company you. :apple:

:p

Agreed on bluray.

But I think the apple of today is more than willing to admit its mistakes and try to correct them (Iphone firmware 2.1, mobile me) <--- In both instances they PUBLICALLY admitted they made a mistake

I don't follow iPhone FW, but MobileMe was a matter of getting their server operations straightened out. (Actually it worked fine for me from the get go.)

Respinning a hardware design is a different level of problem. Let's imagine Apple did have a sudden reversal of opinion based on lots of irate calls and email from MacRumors readers. :) Unless Apple has had parallel board designs, one with Firewire and one without, right up through design, testing, and burn-in, then starting from scratch now would put it a minimum of 4-6 months away. So maybe the next revision of the Macbook brings FW back, but I wouldn't be thinking it would happen in January.

USB video camera?
Can USB cope with the data transfer rate of SD. I know USB 2.0 is supposed to be 800Mb/s but from what I've seen it can't sustain it for any length of time. But in all honesty I've never tried so would love to hear the views of somebody who's captured from a Camcorder with USB 2.0.

Pretty sure you're buggered if you're capturing HD mind.

USB video camera?

Do they even make USB miniDV video cameras?

PS: I agree that the Mac Pro could be greener, especially with that report about the toxic fumes (whether that's true or not I haven't heard). However, why would you need a PRO machine to be smaller? All that would do is make it harder to fit things in the expansion slots (you would probably have to sacrifice a couple of those and a hard disk bay) and it would constrict air flow.

I have used FireWire cameras only but have seen USB video cameras in person before (in a store). I have never used them on a Mac before though.
That is all I can help you with now. :)

That's what I thought. And since DV is still the best quality way to record cheaply a USB camera (which either uses a hard disk, yuk!, or SD cards, yuk!) would not make sense.

And as I've repeatedly said, even if the quality was the same it makes no difference. FCE and FCP don't offer video capture via USB. Only firewire. The only option is a very time consuming conversion so that they can be edited in these programs.

I... Apple has decided that this will be one of the main differentiators between MB and MBP and will push people to spend another $700...
I'd be happy to pay $700 for the "pro" to get firewire, better graphics and a faster HD option. Unfortunately, the pro comes in only two sizes… 'too big' and f'cking enormous.

Opinions of new macbooks?

Who actually likes the redesigned macbooks and sees no problem with the new design?
I am new to macbook and have no need for firewire, so I see no problem with the new design.
Maybe I am a newbie and that makes me clueless to the flaws?

I love the way that we don't reserve our very best ideas for our, you know the very high end products, th-that all our very best ideas, all of our innovation we bring to the most popular mac that we make.

Johnny Ives on the new macbook.

I call BS, and judging by all the neg feedback it looks like many others do too, I really think that sales are gonna drop, and until they rectify the lack of firewire Apple deserve it.

I'm sorry but you are definitely not living in the real world. Have you been out of your house recently?

I suggest you drive down to your nearest University or shopping mall and talk to some people about 'firewire'. 99% of the population buy a Macbook because of the design and the operating system, simple as that.
