How come it says the new Macbook will be available in November? I was under the impression that the new Macbook and Macbook Pros will be in stores tomorrow. With today's updates and prices, I don't think I'll be fighting the masses to purchase a new Macbook.

When I did mine online it says 1-3 business days and I'm in Australia

nobody seems to be talking about the battery. If the case is one solid block. does this mean the battery is inside and not accessible? I hope apple didn't do this. Can somebody confirm this?
As if no firewire and the price, and the black keys and glossy screen, weren't enough problems...

No significant difference in my opinion.. certainly "standards that don't yet exist" BS... how about standards that do exist and have not been implementnted like BluRay....

This is what I want to know as I would like to add a 7200rpm drive to a macbook.

Errrrrrgh- what's with the UK prices??!! £1149 for a 2.4GHz model?!

I can see that they're nice laptops and all that, but come on!

What kind of performance gains will we expect to see with the new graphics? Will the macbook now be able to easily play WoW, CSS, etc?

If so, I may think about the macbook vs the mbp I was going to purchase.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnn.

Wake me up if and when they really update the MacBook/MacBook Pro notebooks. No wonder the stock has already given back $6 of the $9 it made up yesterday.

Not happy about lack of FireWire? LEAVE FEEDBACK.

Apple does listen to customers if enough of them complain:

Tell them why no FireWire is a big mistake. Reason #1 for me: Importing DV video into iMovie. They're targeting iMovie and MacBooks for the consumer and yet they're eliminating a technology that iMovie uses?

Phil Ken Sebben: "Brllnt!"

No FireWire!!!
Seriously do they think it's funny to do this to people?
There is plenty of room!?!

Yep and....
Not to mention their Aggressive Pricing! What a Joke! Anytime I see aggressive pricing I know to hold on to my wallet cause they aggressively want to get deeper into it! :(:apple::p

Could someone pelase tell me about the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M...

How many MB do we get? With the intel chipset it was 64mb shared.

Lets see. My Macbook cost $1299 back in November. Comes with a 2.2ghz processor. New Macbook costs $1299 nearly one year later. Comes with a 2.0ghz processor.

Meh I have to say negative, I feel apple have actually priced themselves out now, especially if we assume that the white Macbook is just while stocks last. If you want to make a 13" MBP do it - just not at the expense of the MB :-(

Oh and lets not forget, no Blu-ray

Maybe it is because usb 3.0 might come out next year and replace firewire.

Can you help me migrate my stuff from my old machine then please?

Did it wirelessly with an Air at work... 32GB Took 18 hours... Not really an option.

Dropping Firewire means I'd need to buy a USB HD to move from my Mac (With Firewire Backup External HD) to a new one... Can I borrow yours? ;)

Use a ethernet cable. It is the same idea, you just need to connect to the other machine. Sorry if it is harder for you guys, really. I think the firewire port isn't DEAD it just isn't a strong force in the market anymore.

Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful.

I'm desperate for an entry level MacBook to replace my broken iBook G4. There's no way I'm paying more for a white MacBook than I would have this morning (especially since I'm a student and I believe our discount has been reduced too?!), and the new ones are nice enough but too expensive for way to little an update.

Looks like a generic PC + Linux for my on the go computing. Or eBay for an old model. :(

shocked

Im seriously disappointed with the new MacBooks. I would understand the Firewire decision if they kitted out the Macbooks with USB 3.0.

I use firewire on a regular basis. unbelievable

Battery is trivial to remove, and so is the HDD

USB3 still won't stream correctly, or USB2 could do it (flash news: USB2 theoretically has more bandwidth than Firewire-400).

So no.

They'd have a hard time doing that as the USB3 spec hasn't been finished yet.

Okay, let's go over this...

+
Faster front side bus (nobody mentioned that to what extent does it make it fast, they almost doubled the fsb speed on the MB)
Graphic card (and ability to run 2 external screens if I got it right)
cheaper ram (who uses apple's ram anyways ?)

aluminium case

-
slower CPU
no firewire
smaller student discount

In my opinion we are getting way screwed... Seriously what the hell? I'm thinking that this first batch of macbooks are basically like those who first bought the iPhone, and a few months after, massive rebate (or was that the touch? anyways).

PS, why is the store down, changing the price points !?

As other said

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html

If doing it here, why not say it to apple directly to !

keeps the price down a bit, saves space, plus probably < 10 % of consumers use firewire anyway.

That's not the reason at all! The cost of firewire is negligible and ANYONE who does any video editing, even mom and dad, use firewire. I think it's obvious that the reason is the new graphics cards. These cards would have enabled you to use all of the Final Cut Studio programs on the Macbook, thereby eliminating the need to move up to the MBP. Take away the firewire and you take away that ability, plain and simple, forcing content creators to by an MBP.

DV cameras are mainly USB and some do still have firewire. Still; firewire is becoming more the exception to the rule on these devices.

DV cameras are ONLY Firewire, last time I checked. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Some have USB ports but they are not for transferring DV video.

yes. Graphics. This might not seem like a difference to you now in Leopard but when snow leopard drops it will. The integrated intel chip in the old macbook is an enough reason to stir away.

Do I have to get snowleopard- or can one stick with leopard?

Nothing amazing, but it's enough to likely sell over a million units by the end of this year and four or five million next year, so Apple (nor their stockholders) will be whining about it.

Bought by whom?

People are used to pay 499 dollars for a dual-core with firewire.

The current economic climate will hit Apple hard, check tomorrows stock prices...

Spot on reason. Forget old iPods, this is the main use for the connection and iLife is among Apple's biggest selling points. Idiots (as the French site says!).

They look so awesome. But I don't know why I feel so disappointed. If I look at the price it has a worse processor and lost a FireWire.
x2 why'd they kill the firewire port? That alone means I won't be buying a new Macbook. How in the hell do I import video from my DV cam? Answer: with the new Macbook, I can't! Get a clue Apple!

Not to mention that a black keyboard looks hideous on a silver notebook.
