It's going by too fast. Is that neat calibration feature a part of tvOS 14.5? tvOS 15? Or is it limited to the new model only? If so, why?
Doing real-time color correction after calibration may require the higher performance of the A12 GPU.

I hope it has the capability to adjust the HDR tone mapping (similar to the "HDR optimizer" that Panasonic UHD disc players have). Some movies are mastered too dark in HDR.

So this update is for gamers and people without a universal remote? The calibration feature is interesting if your only source is the ATV otherwise meh.

In other words nothing new or unachievable of note versus the prior model.

And still no lossless audio bitstream support and no spatial audio support, which would be groundbreaking and for which there aren’t easy workarounds except to avoid the ATV.

FindMy on the remote - yes or no?

Does it upscale like the Nvidia Shield?

Color correction feature looks nice - I hope it's a run once and not something I have to update in day vs night lighting conditions!
I have the shield pro 2019 and the appletv’s already look better than the shield. I compared them back to back. Same content. Apple doesn’t need gimmick upscaling To sell a product. But they do need passthrough audio the shield has

It looks like Apple wanted an updated ATV so they do not need to manufacture the A10X anymore. The remote just seems like a side-effect.

A bit dissapointed, really, as A10X to A12 does make a difference, but A12 is rather old now, seems they also wanted max. ROI with high margins on the product while offering a really low price to be able to still compete with all the new smart TV included Apple TV apps coming to market.

All in all, this is about the remote and a low price more than anything else.

Yes you can use this remote on the previous box

Awesome! For $60 I could probably justify it. Three new remotes (for my 3 aTVs) would cost the same price as replacing just one of them. I don't think I need anything else that the box itself has, so new remotes would do it.

I was worried they'd get rid of the touch area, because I love that for seeking. Seems like they made it best of both worlds.

The problem here is that the ATV 4k does everything already. I seriously doubt that the new ATV4k will provide a better quality picture than the existing one. Remember, the source has to support all of the features and Apple doesn't control that. (outside of the iTunes store for Apple TV and the Movies on the App store)

Looks like apple was reading comments in here for years and finally listened about the remote.
mute button. No more touch wheel. Clicks buttons. On off button. No more black so easier to not lose. Easier to find what orientation it is. fast Forward and rewind like the old click wheels was an added bonus.
Please apple silently give us passthrough audio on our own content

Does it support TrueHD / DTS-HD MA bit streaming? I.E. lossless audio with spacial metadata?
The current PCM output (with Atmos metadata where applicable) *is* a lossless conversion even without bitstreaming. One thing that's missing is the ability to play TrueHD/DTS-HD MA tracks with Atmos in 3rd party apps, but that's a software issue. Since Apple itself doesn't use these codecs (they use E-AC3 for their Atmos tracks), adding this is probably not a high priority for them.

No spatial audio? What? Pass. They gave the iMac spatial audio, but not the Apple TV? Is this a joke?
So dissapointed. I bought Airport Max minutes after announcement last December. Then there was NO spatial audio from my Apple TV 4K. After having to pair the AirPods Max every time I wanted to watch Apple TV (I am only user and only 1 device paired). That was it. I sent back the AirPods Max. I had my finger on the Apple Store trigger to buy another pair of AirPods Max today. There must be a mistake -- or they are forcing me to buy some outboard device(s0
