not bad but if i’m to be honest I was hoping (with no evidence for my hope) that we’d see a higher end model available along side these with an M1.

does anyone know how the A12 competes with something like the Nintendo switch in CPU & GPU performance?

its overkill for streaming apps but for games it’s disappointing for future proof

I wonder if we see a shortage of those remotes and I wonder if TTim knows how much people hate that remote. I see a lot of folks ordering that. Current remote is just a miss...

Local storage means nothing if you can't storage movies. Who has 32GB of apps on an ATV?
Its not just the size of the app that takes up space. Its also all the data the app needs. I have a 32GB ATV that constantly tells me its out of space because one of the apps for streaming from my nas has a sqlite database and stores metadata. That metadata constantly gets wiped because TVOS needs to free up space.

Woo Hoo! I've been waiting for years to upgrade my AppleTV! I'm 100% buying this one.

I'll buy to see if it solves the temp drop-outs (picture and sound go blank for a couple of seconds a few times an hour) that I get with my current 4K Apple Tv. Wishful thinking?

The problem here is that the ATV 4k does everything already. I seriously doubt that the new ATV4k will provide a better quality picture than the existing one. Remember, the source has to support all of the features and Apple doesn't control that. (outside of the iTunes store for Apple TV and the Movies on the App store)
It won’t, since (see above), this is more about replacing the A10X at a lower price with a better remote, that’s also why they used the same name basically.

They could have included:
1) AV1 support
2) More high-quality games require more graphics performance, they could even put in M1 into an ATV with lower clocks and disabled cores (to boost their gaming service and better games) if they wanted to

However, it’s just a replacement with some small increments, only worth for people that don’t like the old remote IMHO. For new buyers it’s kinda disappointing, at least I am, it has taken them this long for such small improvements?

Not sure if you’re joking. It supports Dolby Atmos with a speaker system that supports that standard.
But that doesn’t mean spatial audio to Airpods Max & Pro unfortunately.

Crying shame the new one doesn’t appear to support it, it’d be an instabuy for me. Now, I’ll have to wait until the 2026 ATV8K probably, pfft.
