If you are planning on using one of the new models as a Smart Home Hub with HomeKit and Thread-based smart home accessories, then be careful getting the Wi-Fi + Ethernet version, as it does not seem to be available with the Wi-Fi only model (as I read their text)

I have my AppleTV hard-wired via Ethernet to my router rather than use WiFi since it can offer higher data transfer rates.

I purchased the 2021 model for $110 from Amazon and since I have an LG TV that supports Dolby Vision, I do not need HDR10+ support so will skip this one.

Ethernet is faster and more reliable than Wi-Fi. I often get buffering issues on Wi-Fi. Ethernet just works.

No 120hz, still. Why is this such a problem for them? It divides all formats evenly for super smooth playback. 24, 30, and 60. It's more about THAT than, "gaming." That's why we home theater nerds WHINE.

Is HR10+ a noticeable change?

Dolby Vision is still the best for dynamic metadata. HDR 10+ is a push by Samsung because they do not want to pay to license DV.

It's certainly not worth upgrading for if you already have a 4K ATV.

$20 more for ethernet port, double the storage, and Thread support. Well worth that tiny price difference.

It looks like the Ethernet version is also required to get Thread support for HomeKit.

A special note. The 128gb option the only option with a wired Ethernet port. The best option for 20 bucks more the 128gb at $149. $50 off the current Apple TV. A nice win for us.

Some people use ethernet instead of wifi for better reliability and performance. I’d guess that more than 95% of users don’t use it.

The ethernet model also has Thread networking support. Not sure why it's left out of the cheaper version. It's not like you need ethernet for Thread. Not sure I will upgrade from my 2021 Apple TV 4K, but I'm happy to see the remote with USB-C.

Not quite, has removed ethernet, thread and reduced space to 64GB for $129. $149 for the ATV with those.

Can’t really see anything that justifies an upgrade from the 4K 2021… I think this was just to skip production of older CPU’s and start following EU’s demands for USB charging.

Getting really sad to see. upcharge for ethernet and ethernet model is needed for thread homekit. I wish Apple started taking more risks and stopped increasing prices and removing features. I say this as a long time apple fan.
