Apple TV 4K (Wi-Fi + Ethernet) offers support for Gigabit Ethernet for fast networking and streaming, Thread to connect even more smart home accessories, and 128GB of storage.

If you are planning on using one of the new models as a Smart Home Hub with HomeKit and Thread-based smart home accessories, then be careful getting the Wi-Fi + Ethernet version, as it does not seem to be available with the Wi-Fi only model (as I read their text)

What’s the ethernet port for? Just curious I don’t think I use this with my hd model?

I have my AppleTV hard-wired via Ethernet to my router rather than use WiFi since it can offer higher data transfer rates.

I purchased the 2021 model for $110 from Amazon and since I have an LG TV that supports Dolby Vision, I do not need HDR10+ support so will skip this one.

hmm, faster gaming performance - I don't care for that. Will wait til this is on sale for $99 ...
good move though, upgraded and at a lower price point

The ethernet model also has Thread networking support. Not sure why it's left out of the cheaper version. It's not like you need ethernet for Thread. Not sure I will upgrade from my 2021 Apple TV 4K, but I'm happy to see the remote with USB-C.

USB-C all the things.

Can’t really see anything that justifies an upgrade from the 4K 2021… I think this was just to skip production of older CPU’s and start following EU’s demands for USB charging.

Getting really sad to see. upcharge for ethernet and ethernet model is needed for thread homekit. I wish Apple started taking more risks and stopped increasing prices and removing features. I say this as a long time apple fan.
