This article says that HDR10+ support was added with os16, meaning the 2nd gen ATV4k should run it. So what actually changed in this latest gen besides the usbc remote and the enet hub option??

They should change the name of the hardware. It’s stupid having a hardware product, an app, and a service all named so similarly. The average customer will & does get confused, especially when they’re not long time Apple customers.

Really no Ethernet port on the 64gb but only on the 128gb. I for one have the current 2021 32gb and haven't even used half that. Apple is so stupid. Probably why I don't buy either phones either lol... Nvidia Shield is still my to go device.. Enjoy this paper weight I guess to those that buy this reversed version. When nothing was really wrong with the 2021..

With the increased storage, I wonder if Apple will release new Screen Savers? I am starting to get tired of the ones they rotate on my ATV 4K 2021.

No 120hz, still. Why is this such a problem for them? It divides all formats evenly for super smooth playback. 24, 30, and 60. It's more about THAT than, "gaming." That's why we home theater nerds WHINE.
Majority of people don't have a 120hz TV, and majority of content isn't available in 120Hz either. majority of content is still 24/30fps, which might be why Apple doesn't support 120hz yet.
Still no lossless audio. Oh well then…guess skipping this too.
Um....Apple TV *does* support lossless audio? It exists on my 2017 model...

Apple Silicon doesn't support HDMI natively, only DisplayPort, which means every HDMI connection is realized with an HDMI 2.0 converter chip (iFixit link). Either there are no DP to HDMI 2.1 converter chips or they cost 3 cents more. Giving Apples history in penny pinching...

No. Apple removed references to HDR10+ after the initial beta announcement. But websites ran with it as though it was supported. They even had a weirdly worded note about Apple TV+ supporting HDR10+. It's like no one bothered to check to see if it was supported on the current Apple TV 4K devices which it isn't.

I wonder if it adds hardware support for new Dolby Vision profiles. The old 4k hardware only supported profile 5, which is pretty much nonexistent outside of streaming.

Only profile 5 support, as per tech specs page: "Dolby Vision (Profile 5) up to 2160p, 60 fps".

y'all freaking out over ethernet, seriously!? Most people just use their ATV on wifi. If getting rid of a mostly-unused ethernet port allowed them to shed $50 off the price, that's a compromise I'm more than willing to accept. Make it far more accessible to most people that never considered the ATV cuz of its high price.

Yep, why is this so hard to implement? No audio pass through, no care. I long for a day where I don’t have to use a shield pro just to get audio pass through.

Serious question. If it has ATMOS and 7.1, what streaming would you be watching where you need passthrough? I feel like the content you stream from these devices would be those formats.

Haven’t owned an ATV since the third gen.

Haven’t used it in ages.

What uses does this serve?

Thinking of getting one.

Some people have nothing better to do than complain, that is what makes them happy

lol at all the people who are like, "but moar storage! omg so grate! <3 <3 <3 Appel"

Go ahead, tell me what can use that storage. If you're an iOS developer in particular, you already know the answer, so no cheating for the rest.
I get out of storage messages all the time on my 64GB ATVs. The max storage should have been increased a while ago.

It's a nice update, making sure that new owners can have their system longer. USB-C charging is a good step in the right direction after last month's disappointment.

However, as an owner of the current version I'm happy with the current version and have no reason to upgrade. I don't know anything where the extra speed or ML capabilities will come in handy, and my TVs all support Dolby Vision.

Let's make a wifi only Apple TV then not put 6E in the one device that would benefit from it. Guess they are saving that for next year.

I would have gotten one of these if it weren't for the fact Apple created an ATV app on Google TVs. I don't want another remote to have to search for! But I will get it when the processor in my TV becomes dog slow....
